I'd leave Presti out. He has nothing to learn and plenty of time to get set for the 2010 season. I'd rather see the younger options get a go. Similar with O'Bree & Lockyer.
you know except HE wants match practice

Not important at all

Well out of that squad i'd like to see a 26 like this:

FB:-----Alan Toovey----Nathan Brown----Harry O'Brien----
HB:-----Heath Shaw------Ben Reid--------Nick Maxwll-----

C:------Alan Didak-------Dane Swan------Dayne Beams----
Fol:----Darren Jolly-------Luke Ball------Scott Pendlebury--

HF:----Leon Davis-------Chris Dawes-----Tarkyn Lockyer--
FF:---Paul Medhurst-----Travis Cloke-----Brent Macaffer--

Int: Simon Prestigiacomo, Tyson Goldsack, Shane O'Bree, Cameron Wood, Sharrod Wellingham, Steele Sidebottom, Simon Buckley

Em: Dale Thomas, Leigh Brown, Ben Johnson

Think you've only got 25 there Quicky. Would leave the outs but include Mccarthy.

Yep I forgot McCarthy.

I see his point. I'd be in favour of resting Presti too - but if Presti actually does think he is underdone you'd have to back his judgement.

I think it'll be Thomas (if he is carrying a niggle), N. Brown and Ben Johnson that miss.
Agree that Daisy and BJ will miss but I think Cloke will miss and N Brown will play Forward

Dale will most likely play. I asked this last week on a Q & A with Harry O'Brien on Facebook:

There were reports that Dale Thomas was injured. How did Daisy train today?

And Harry's response:

Harry O'Brien said:
Daisy is fine... He just had a little niggle but is over it

He might not play just as a precautionary measure, but I'm optimistic and think that he will. At worst I reckon he will be a sub.

Nathan Brown has always looked very dangerous as a forward, but with Dawes as well, it maybe too big a forward line, with Leigh Brown and Travis Cloke all named.

I would leave Leigh Brown out, but Malty probably wouldn't. I would leave Presti out, but Malty probably wouldn't. Since when did players decide what matches they played. If it is safer to keep a 30 year old on the sidelines, in a rubber cup against a Grand Final side of last year, thats exactly where he will be sitting, rust or not.

Most probably Toovey and Johno will play, and Tarkyn and O'Bree, because of who coaches us. Expect Brown or Goldsack, or Thomas or Wood to be left out with Leyroy playing back up ruck. We just got used to it last year, right up to the time we were made look silly by the Cats. We just have to get used to it again. Brown will end up being seen as a Tristen Walker type by the end of his career, and one more stuttery lineup for a kick by Reid, and he will be mothballs too.

Just won't be holding my breath for decent obvious decisions, especially in a NAB cup game, until 2012.

Johnson will play over Buckley. Johnson hasn't put a foot wrong in the preseason. Buckley has been far from impressive.

Not surprised Blight isn't there, tbh doesn't deserve a game ahead of any of those players anyway.

As has been said all preseason long, Fraser will not ruck for at least the first half of the year. It will be wood and Jolly or Jolly with pinch hit from Leeroy.

The ones I have missing out of the team will be Presti (very underdone going by his two performances so far, let him play next week when Alice isn't on the line) or Nath Brown and two of Buckley/Goldsack/MaCaffer/Johnson - I reckon O'bree will be a sub.

I rather Buckle Play then BJ

Echoing the sentiments of many on here; a bit disappointing that Blight won't be playing but I'm sure his turn will come. Otherwise it looks a strong side and I'll be particularly keen to see Dawes hopefully asserting himself in the forward line.

anyone know whats going on with rusling? is he injured again?

Something to do with his hip. I'm losing heart with Rus... maybe it's about time to just give up on his body and give someone else a shot? :thumbsd:

id prefer see him fight through all these injuries and make a successful comback to afl. if he could come back and provide a good target, do his job every game, he would win the hearts of every magpie supporter

As much as I would love to see him do that, I'm not confident his body will stay stable.

As expected with almost everyone fit and available.

Doesn't matter who misses. Everyone will be given ample playing time in preparation for round 1.

Some pretty big ins next wek with Josh, Jack and Rus.

We are in extremely good shape health-wise at the minute.

So this is the only chance Blight gets to play?
Bugger how come we only get to play 1 pre-season game, I don't think it's fair at all

Probably harsh on Leroy given his preseason form but I honestly think he should just be depth this year. We need to move past him and start blooding our younger KPP. Maybe have him in the team ahead of Presti or Lockyer.

Thats a pretty strong line up on paper and should mean it is a very good game of footy.

Of that list I would play Brown over Prestigiacomo as Brown can play forward and this preseason has been outperforming him.

Thomas I think will come up fine for the game, would lean towards leaving Sharrod Wellingham out of the side if Thomas is available as I just can't see a role for him in this side.

Also on your positionings I likewise wouldn't mind seeing Macaffer play closer to goal. Excellent kick on goal and if he is to be a best 22 player his best chance is if he can play as a forward due to the gap with the Dick injury and with Didak now a mid.

I think it'll be Thomas (if he is carrying a niggle), N. Brown and Ben Johnson that miss.

Any reason you would leave out N. Brown?

Personally rate his preseason form over what Presti has been showing (seems to have slowed down). Of all the backs N.Brown looks in the best condition along with Reid.

Would like to see Harry O play on Reidwoldt I believe he is our best match up on him and Franklin not so much for the bigger bodied forwards like Fevola and Hall who stay closer to goal but Harry is very dangerous around the ground and unlike Presti or Brown will make these players have to think defensively as well not just playing the game the way they want it to be played. Has the height and speed to go with both of them GOOOO HARRY!!!!!!!!

If Thomas, Cloke and Presti have been playing with niggles last year and/or pre-season, then maybe they don't need the hassle of painkillers for a practice match, and the chance of them breaking down before we get to the four-pointers.

Toovey - NBrown - O'Brien
Maxwell - Reid - Shaw
Didak - Swan - Wellers
Beams - Dawes - McCarthy
Davis - LBrown - Medhurst
Jolly - Pendles - Ball
Wood, Sidebottom, Goldsack, Macaffer, Lockyer, O'Bree, Johnson, Buckley

If anything goes wrong on the night, Super-sub, Leroy Brown will fix it while we experiment with other structural systems and shapes for the team. Winning is nice, but coming away without injury and having those new systems tested under a bit of 'unfriendly' fire would be much better.

b = toovey n brown harry o
hb = shaw reid maxwell
c = didak swan beams
hf = leon cloke sidebum
f = medhurst dawes macaffer
R = jolly pendles ball
inter: goldy, obree, lockyer, wood, wellingham, mcCarthy, buckley, johnson
