Struggled to get over injuries and found it difficult to get good form at the NEAFL level, which I think is a rung below the VFL. Only played two games for the Suns senior side, I think. Right at the end of the year.

I've read a fair amount that he has the talent, but the time he had off hasn't done any good for him. Think the game may have passed him by. Changed far too much.

That said, he's still young so can probably adapt. Would be an interesting chapter to the tale if he went back down to Geelong! Where would he fit in your line-up?

Is it a case of the Suns being required to drop a number of players from their list and they are likely to pick him up again? Otherwise, can't see any sense in him nominating again. Does he really have that burning desire to play AFL again at any random club that may pick him up. So many questions!

All I can say is that the Cats made him look like a damn good player in 2007 but don't think we should try again. In 3 months time he's likely to say he doesn't have the passion for playing anymore and wants to become a pastor or something.

If he came at a bargain basement price, at worst we have a tall Ablett playing in the VFL. I'm all for that.

I think he should be interviewed by the whole team, and if he survived that and still keen to play, why not?

I think the Suns might be doing this for Coad, who's been allowed to train with the club to see how his body holds up. Don't quote me on that, but I think they're doing something along those lines.

Nathan Ablett is not in the same case. The Suns had to delist their bottom 8 players, and Nathan was in that list unfortunately. Bluey mentioned that he's already moved back down to Melbourne, so cannot see him being re-drafted by the Suns.

GWS might be one of the few who could do something with him, but other than that, not sure. If he's failing to have a huge impact at the NEAFL level (bar a few games of course where he kicked 4 goals), then not sure how the other clubs would look at him.

If we were going to get him, I'd rather put him on the rookie list than waste a spot on the senior list for him. If he wants a spot on the senior list bad enough, he'll have to work his butt off to get it. On the other hand, if he decides to pack it all in mid-season, then it won't effect us as much.

No Nathan.

I loved him at Geelong and really rate his 2007 season. And I respected his decision to leave. And in some strange way I even see the reason to join the Suns.

But there is no sense in him still looking for another club.

I don't think he has the natural athleticism required for the level. Football skill wize he had it but he really didn't look like doing easy because of the players he was up against. NA V Harry Taylor? I know who Id back in. And would he ever be willing to work hard to make himself a player?

Does anyone really think he would come back on purely our terms , like any other kid? Guthrie for example on the footy show very early in the year.

Sometimes , some players are lucky make immature decisions , bad choices and they get 2nd chance ( usually only the very gifted) but not always. Sometimes you make your bed and you have to lie in it.

I liked the sound of Walker the other day , flogging himself up at Falls Creek , showing his desperation , his willingness to work and his athletic tools which look more than adequate as he was at the front of the group.

It's a win,win,win.
Sticks it up Gaz(I want to play with Naf).
Costs little to rookie.
And if it doesn't work out he can build the grandstand.

He can rot in hell as far as I'm concerned. The club wasted many years on this ungrateful piece of shit.
Sitting on the fence again, why don't you come down and tell us what you really think.

Pass. I'm sure there are plenty of kids who are more deserving of a chance than this piss weak and lazy individual.

It'll be really interesting to see how this develops. Personally I cant see Geelong giving it any thought whatsoever and i doubt Nathan would want to come back to the cats after his depature.

As far as any other clubs picking him up, i just cant see it. The suns had precious few experienced players last year so were forced to throw the boys in against the men. If Nathan was any decent form he would of gotten games for sure. 2 games at the end of the year says he clearly wasnt.

I dont hate Nathan for leaving Geelong, his honesty in being unable to give his all to the club and walking away from a healthy contract was a decent thing to do.

I wish him well but i think his AFL career may be over.

poor Nathan....he was still too young to realize just how unbelievably fortunate he was when playing with us in 2007 and decided to leave AFL and explore.

Unfortunately he may have found out how harsh and tough the real world is and that a footballers life although incredibly physical is quite a rewarding lifestyle not only whilst playing but the amount of doors that open up after football that us everyday folk wouldn't even get a sniff at is pretty enriching and I'd assume, extremely rewarding and I guess Nathan now wants in before he starts to age and realizes he'll need to do a regular full-time laboring job or something similar, and the only thing you look forward to every single week is receiving your paycheck and giving it all way immediately to pay the bills for the rest of your life

.....yep, he should have stayed in the game when he had the chance but now another youngster deserves their chance I think:thumbsu:

With the regime change I couldn't see it happening. Scott has no past link to him so would look at it objectively and in being objective, the only real answer to the OP is no ****ing way.

Further to the change in senior coach, I don't think a single assistant is left from when Nathan was at the club.

It's almost a completely different era ;)

If he doesnt get drafted ( which i think will be the case) then the best thing for him would be to find a spot on a VFL team. Not a country bush league but a real tough, competitive league where he'll be tested every week by other AFL hopefuls. That way he'll get the chance to prove to the other AFL clubs that he is ready and can be an asset to a club. Key forwards are hard to come by.

He'd need to have a very strong year and not be hampered by injuries or lack of motivation, take plenty of marks and kick 40+ goals for the year. If he can do that an AFL club will pick him up the following year in a heartbeat.

Very handy VFL player imo!
Give him a year in the magoos and if he shows anything rookie him in 2013.
Geelong has to think outside the square with our draft picks but only...and it's a big only...if he cuts the mustard attitudinally.
I suggest Chapman, Scarlo and Scott make the call after a complete interrogation.

Its not going to happen -i dont dislike him -sure he was a touch lazy -but seems a quiet decent sort of bloke . I think down the track he will be kicking himself for leaving when he did . 2008 grand final Lonegran was full forward -at that stage Ablett probably would have been a better option -one asset N Ablett did have -was he was an accurate kick and a technically correct kick -so who knows what would have happened if he played in that 2008 GF.however i dont think he will lose any sleep over it-but as he gets older i think he might rue the easy money he could have earned

Whoever is managing him has clearly put him up to this, get more money while your brand still has some currency!!! Honestly he rarely looked like he gave a shit at Geelong, was otherwise unsighted at GC but always seemed to have an injury, which is par for the course for unfit people playing high level sport - and I'm sure we're all aware of his track record for skipping out on the hard stuff off-field. Like Turbocat said it was more encouraging to see Walker smashing himself to be noticed and to be better, than to think about giving Ablett another opportunity to cash in on the reputation his dad and brother have forged. A lot of people say a spot on the rookie list isn't much to give for a Nablett or a Fev but that spot for Geelong could be given to a project ruckman or a rebounding defender who not only wants to play but is genuinely willing to do anything to get their fitness elite and commit to the team ethos.

Another outlandish, crude, idiotic statement by JUBJUB.
