Well the go home factor will be lower for him then, lets just hope the kid can play a bit. All this talk about "Oh but weve gone for pace" yeah so what ?? Its all well and good to be fast but can they play ?? And wtf were we doing picking up Dangerfield, probably the stupidest pick of anyone for the whole day.

well I said at the beginnig I wanted Dangerfield But I thought it would mean Ebert was gone and I didn't realise he'll be staying in melbourne to do yr 12! I CAN NOT BELIEVE we did not pick ANY South Aussies when at most times we had the chance too!

Not the best year for South Australians.

So 4 drafted (excluding Dew)

Ebert to West Coast. (#13)
Greenwood to Kangaroos. (#32)
Westhoff to Port Adelaide. (#33)
McNamara to Melbourne. (#66)

As a rough count I got
36 from VIC
16 from WA
4 from SA
3 from NSW/ACT
2 from NT
2 from QLD
1 from TAS
5 recycled AFL (Dew, Johnson, Gehrig, Bradley, Grima)
6 passes

Why?

As for the entire draft, we've certainly gone "Unknown" (although with late picks in a draft that lacks depth - that's probably to be expected)

Who on earth is Myke Cook? He better be ****ing good, because I'm filthy Farmer went to Port.

The Dangerfield pick, I don't mind it. He's quick, hard at it and he backs himself. Something we lack. Ebert would've been good, but I think peoples opinions of him are somewhat inflated, just because of his name being thrown around so much in the SA media. Where he's playing next year doesn't really bother me. He'd be playing SANFL/SANFL reserves anyway, as he's very bottom age. Nice to see the kid taking his studies seriously.

Jacky was exactly what we needed, a quick goalsneek. I like that pick.

Also happy with the Otten selection. Tall ball winning utility.

Tony Armstrong. I have NFI about him, but there was a story on him on the AFL website, might read it later.

Kite, I have NFI as well.
And last but not least, the TEXAS RANGER :thumbsu:

He misses out on a years development and training with us and we wont get to see our number 10 pick play this year. Then theres the debate of how well is he going to keep himself during his studies so he might be even further behind than next years draftees. I do like the fact he is taking year 12 seriously, means he's got his head screwed on but there were plenty of other ways to go, Ebert being only 1 of them.

Ive seen Jacky play a few games and he is exciting but a goalsneak who completely drifts in and out of games is not what we want. So many people here got wrapped up in speed, but so what, they still have to be able to play. Otten was a good selection, this kid can certainly play a bit and he can play anywhere too which is nice. The next 2 guys, like most people, I dont know much about but would have liked us to go local with 1 of them and yes yes we have the Texas Ranger :D:thumbsu:

Pretty happy with the draft overall, Obviously I am not pretending to be a whiz of draft knowledge (like may posters are) I think we took what we needed. However, when sitting down to watch the live draft it was an awesome feeling knowing that we had Taylor texas Raner Walker all sewn up with our last pick, very reassuring, but when brisbane took henderson i though we've got ebert!! then, it didnt happen!!!

CANT WAIT TO HERE VIC CROWS REPORTS ON ALL THE VIC KIDS
please post them in this thread if you can so i know where to look for them!!

Anyone else surprised we didn't pick up a ruckman?

Anyone else surprised we didn't pick up a ruckman?

Yes and no. I mean we probably need another one around for depth but there werent a great deal to choose from.

I would have been amazed if we had of given the frailty of this draft ........but I would equally be amazed if we do not rookie one

Quick summary from Rendells interview on 5AA

Dangerfield - rated 3 by us, Ebert 7. At one stage we had him rated a bit before Cotchin. Will come and do pre-season and in the holidays with us. August meeting with us he stated he was going to stay. The club discussed it and was happy. (I have also been told that Pickering and Frawley rated Dangerfield at 3 in the draft as well)

Otten - rated 11 by us, 6'3 midfielder can go forward and kick a goal bigger build. More ready to go. extreemely good agility, good endurance and very good around the contested ball.

Jacky - aboriginal forward, very quick, great hands, good goal sense. Fantastic kid, fit in very easily, great sense of humour. Rated 12 by us.

Myke - rated 19. Dale thomas lookalike with alot of his traits. Highly skilled. Plently of courage, a bit of scallywag in him. Knee op about 5 weeks ago, will be a late starter after xmas.

Armstrong - Went to School in Melbourne at Assumption college, hence why he played 2 games for Calder. Lighting skills, as good a kick as you will see. Pretty skinny. Comes from a great sounding town. Sydney were not happy we took them, they were after him as one of their priority rookies

All sub 3 runners, all have great ball and kicking skills.

Kite - had an up and down year, KP player or utility.

5 blokes inside top 30 that didn't get picked.

talent is first main criteria, followed by athletic ability, character and ? (I missed the 4th one - anyone help me out here?)

These players won't play next year.

In summing up Rendell pointed out that the Crows rated Rance on par with Ebert and West Coast went with Ebert ahead of a home grown player in Rance.

Anyone else surprised we didn't pick up a ruckman?
Rendell mentioned a lack of talls in this year's draft, that it was likely we would end up with midfielders.

Given ruckmen tend to me more hit & miss, I think there is good value rookie listing them.

Thats fair enough.

I thought there were a couple of decent ruckman that went undrafted, but obviously they had flaws.

Thanks for the summary, I think we did alright. :)

But as for the bolded comment, whaaaaaaaat? They won't play next year? Matthew Clarke said that all new AFC draftees will play year 1 if they are ready and are putting their hands up for selection. Why then this comment from Rendell?

Cheers for that Nikki, thought that they must have rated Dangerfield high for him to go before Ebert, as for most of them not playing next year thats not a huge suprise, we prefer to let them develop a little in the SANFL before throwing them in at the deep end. Like the sound of it, Rendell reckons he picked up 5 top 20 players, hope he is right.
