Has anyone else seen the bright yellow sponsor box on the back of Port's jumper? Looks absolutely terrible.

The Port Adelaide Football Club and Foodbank have teamed up in an innovative partnership that tackles one of Australia’s biggest social issues by harnessing The Power To End Hunger.

Port Adelaide is proud to welcome Foodbank - Australia’s largest hunger-relief organisation - as a Joint Major Partner of the Power from 2012.

The unique alliance - believed to be a first for a sporting club in Australia - will help to put a national spotlight on the problem of hunger and generate corporate sponsorship to aid Foodbank’s efforts to provide nutritious food for the hundreds of thousands of Australians who go without it.

“This is an innovative program that we know will result in Foodbank improving more people’s lives and we are very proud to be a part of that,” said Port Adelaide Chief Executive Officer Keith Thomas.

“Our partnership - while groundbreaking - is also wonderfully simple. We will bring together a network of corporate supporters under The Power To End Hunger campaign and share the net proceeds with Foodbank on a 50-50 basis.

Well Essendon used to be sponsored by TAC, different, but that's a cause too.

And there was "Drink and Drive, you bloody idiot." on the advertisement boards around the ground.
I loved those when I was younger, seeing the MCG with it :)

Decent cause though. Not sure, has any other team done anything like this before? Gibbsy or Mero might know.

I guess the various TAC sponsorships may qualify. "Speed kills" for Essendon; "Wipe off 5" for Collingwood; "Drink drive, bloody idiot" for Richmond. There is also the seatbelt initiative from Essendon a couple of years back too.

Then there was Adelaide who wore the Melanoma Foundation's logo on the back of their guernsey for the 2009 Elimination Final - a shame that the logo wasn't more visible from a distance as the glare of the lights just shone off the transfer.

I can't think of any others at the moment (if there have been any) but I like the sentiment. Much like Unicef's previous sponsorship with Barca.

Best footy show out there!

But anyway back on topic, we don't want to get carded under Doc's new regime.
Wise move.

Also, on the Port sponsor, big yellow writing rather than a yellow box would look worse.
Nothing would blend at all.

Being nice to charity is lovely and all, but a club like Port really needs a full-blown sponsorship. I cannot see this being a multi-year jumper reality unless Port again fails to find someone in offseason 2012-13.
Whats the deal?
Do this food company pay $$ for the sponsorship like any other company, or because of it's charity work, Port kinda pay them... or...?

Port secures smaller sponsorship deals and splits the money 50/50 with Foodbank.
Don't know what the companies get out of it though, they don't get any advertising space from it

Not so much "new jumper" as "new logo" and "new concept"...Port Adelaide has a partnership with Foodbank, as described in the two articles - basically small partnerships with companies, and Port splits the income 50/50 with Foodbank. Guessing it means a massive yellow box on their black guernsey though!
