I think at the end of this season, the Crows must make a huge bid to steal Cooney from the Doggies. He's a champ in the making. And the best candidate for the Crows next captain. :D

This is a direct challenge to James Fantasia. Go get him James.

He's a Crow at heart, we can get him.

An area really needing attention. Glad to see Craiggy and the AFC are addressing this issue with the McLean appointment.

Stenglein had looked to be the certainty

Reilly and Mc Gregor are hopefully in the top 6-8 players for us over the next few years. However, in terms of leadership qualities, neither have a sense of mongrel or are natural extroverted leaders (Roo, Primus, Voss), are superstars (Buckley, Cousins, Crawford etc).

So who will it be from the current list?

Rutten captained under 18s and did well. Perhaps a VC, as its hard to captain from either end of the ground. Also still needs to prove himself again next yr.

Begley was talked about as an option - would need to be more consistent and develop further as a player.

Watts is from good stock and could also develop

Thompson is obviously new to the club but shows some real promise. My favourite based on a gut feel

Therefore Thompson Captain with Begley, Rutten, Watts and maybe Reilly as deputies

don't want to sound smart or simplistic.....but I'd be happy to give it to anyone to CONSISTANTLY puts their bloody head over the ball. Lets not go thru the blueprint for leadership success according to some psychological profiling or petigree.......3 of our first 4 captains were/are leaders of men because they GET THE BALL when others can't .......or won't.....
Apply this criteria and I reckon we will have half a dozen or so candidates to choose from.
