I don’t want Ross sacked atm. But if we did give him the flick, I’d love us to get Brett Ratten. The bloke was underrated in his senior coaching days and would of mastered his craft even more under Clarko.
Carlton made a grave mistake getting rid of Ratten. They got sucked into a poor season due to injury, and gave him the flick unfairly because of it.

There's a load of old cobblers for a start. Nanette and the four Malthouse kids grew up and loved it here, and Simpson's wife and their four kids in the babysitting zone as well and have no problem finding many volunteers to help. Mitchell's wife and kids wold have no problem staying as well, if there was a senior job.

Brett Kirk would have stayed if Lyon's contract wasn't renewed. He was Fyfe's mentor when he first came to the club and maybe responsible for much of the success Freo had. Lloyd's family circumstances had changed and it was difficult here for him but Sumich definitely left because of Ross and the inflexible mental brick wall the they were bashing up against. Big problem for us is who they replaced these three with. Those guys made RTB look good and were a bit reason for some success.

Most clubs actually have an application process they adhere to. Didn't happen with Ross (and the few times it did happen you wonder if the members had a West Coast interests) and many thought he was here for that short fix before he renegotiated his contract.

Especially the Kirk comment re Lyon

Hilarious. I've lived interstate for a long time, I've worked with a lot of people who've tried to relocate interstate and most of them find it fine when they're single, free and easy - but a struggle with a family.

Kirk specifically went back home to Sydney, he didn't go to where the most jobs are - Melbourne, or anywhere to a major role and promotion, he didn't even have an exact job when they signed him up, they were just happy to have him come back "Tom Harley said the club would be in a position to detail Kirk's specific role once it had finalised its coaching panel for 2016".

Face it, he went home, he had a young family and his footy family - Sydney FC welcomed him back and made a role. He didn't go to a major new role anywhere, he went home - as will a lot of other assistant coaches in the course of time.

Hopefully same happens with JLo

Id lean more to flat our horseshit myself....see freomonocles quote for the major reason we struggle to get assisants over here.

As wig pointed out so precisely, we sit here and thiink people are just magnets on a board to be shuffled around for our liking or that if we want someone we simply ask them ,offering shit tonne of cash and hey presto their here

Some of you really need to get it through your head that these people you talk about (other coaches /assistant coaches/former players are NOT you.
They dont have your perspective they dont have your outlook on things.

For those of you saying we should get this guy or that guy or that assisant coach x would walk over hot coals to get a gig here  you need to put yourself in their shoes, especially as 99% will have a young but semi established family.

Now go ask your kids what they think of being reefed out of primary school away from all their mates. What your wife thinks of having to leave behind her entire support network and perhaps comfortable part time work and social activites all to go across the other side of the country for a job that ,if the guys highly rated could have the option of TEN of the same job at pretty much the same coin.

Then follow that up with a serious question of ,

if im an assistant coach where would my best career prospects (top job prospects)and media profile(paramount for assitant coaches ,as lets face its only those club insiders would be qualified to pass judgement on your actual abilities for the rest of us and that includes media genuinly have NFI and simply speculate on hearsay) lay ?......
Perth or melbourne?

Finally get all that then you may start to understand exactly how much obstacles our club faces on issues such as these

I gather some of you wont tho and will simply turn back to foaming at the mouth again .

Much easier

What a load of tripe. Assistant coaches move wherever in Australia all the time. A lot of current ones are literally in a different state from the state they played footy in/their families live in. Oh and that media profile comment is ridiculous, you actually think clubs care in even the slightest?

Now as we're obviously not going to relocate the club to melbourne then were simply going to have to deal with it and try and find a way round it.

And the only real viable solutions that i can see are similar to our long overdue player recruiting policy of targeting expats west ozzies

Im looking at joel corey, darren glass ,simon black ...longmuir.

Remembering too tho it still wont be easy as alot of them (certainly black and corey) will have local wives,so moving back "home" is not exactly home for them.

The other strategy is,the one that so far it looks like weve been doing and that is targeting recently retired players who seemingly have coaching ambitions and the right pedigree(ala david hale).
Then look to build their experience up in a sort of traineeship role

As others have mentioned the soft cap for footballl departments also would play a part as it hits clubs like our(middle/upper tier clubs) alot worse than your west coast /hawks and collingwoods- thanks eddie you VFL loving relic of shit.

Again your looking from it from YOUR perspective ,serious question do you have a family? .

Really so tell me why blake caracellas so highly rated then ?-the richmond big footy board?,sam mclure?
You know what makes a good assistant do you?... tell me the last assistant coach that got a senior gig that was low profile?

Then tell me who are all these high profile assistants rushing over to get a gig under simpson?- sam mitchell thats it and guess what its EXACTLY for the same reasons kirk came to freo.
Sam will be bback in vic the minute his 3 years are up here (earlier if he gets a senior gig)

And yes of course assistants move interstate for roles i never said they didnt ,i was referring to the high profile ones- or more pertinently the ones people want around here.( Also living and working in WA is bit further away from melb than Adelaide or Sydney . Tho im not sure you get that either)
The lower profile ones do move cause ,guess what? They have a lower profile !!!... but were not talking about getting the dale morris or the adam kingsleys of the world over here are we???

serious question are you really THAT simple??
Tell me name wc other assistants besides mitchell and jaime graham?

Daniel pratts one, adrian hickmotts another ,brady rawlings was one (not sure if he still is or list manager now)
WC got more money than anyone timex 10 and yet they bring over hugely credentialed former players and leaders like pratt and hickmott

Agree with those that say we don't need a new coach now as much as we need a strong experienced assistant. Ratten is obviously ideal but it's like me fantasising about bedding the lead bikini model in Sports Illustrated, it ain't happening.
So I'm going to throw an unexpected one into the ring - Dean Cox. He probably thought Simpson was keeping the seat warm for him whilst he learnt the trade in Sydney, but he'll be cherry ripe to come home as a senior assistant with a view to the main gig.

Nah, I don't mate, too young at the moment and also not ready for a family.

Actually haven't gone on the Richmond board regarding Caracella, don't see the point in doing that.

Thanks for the cute little shots at me though, appreciate them.

Nah, they move so they can keep learning, didn't Longmuir move from West Coast to Collingwood? Money and the opportunity to learn will do that.

Tell me why we don't need a new coach, why do we need new assistants but not a new senior coach. Literally any excuse on the freo board to protect him, he truly can do no wrong on here and if you dare disagree you get labeled a 'hater'.

Its actually the $2 million we have to pay out. It would make Rosich and Bond look stupid.
That is why they won't pay out. We are stuck with him till the end of this season, then we'll see what happens.

You are probably correct but it would be verging on incompetent if the board had not included KPIs as part of any contract renewal and I have my doubts as to whether any reasonable KPIs could have been met over the last 3 years

Well, not commenting on female breasts wasn't part of his brief obviously.:p
Maybe Rosich knows something we don't! Maybe there is another skeleton in the closet for Rossy ?
Anyways he'll finish this year, unless there is more muckraking, and then the Board will make a decision.
Rosich will be all over this, he's mates with Eagle hierarchy, he's mates with Cransberg, he's well connected at AFL house, rumour has been he's wanted a job there for a long time. He made this mess, he needs to fix it!

Yeah I doubt that harassment was a KPI ;)

From what I've heard, Rosich is more than connected with the eagles hierarchy but an actual supporter but no way can I see him landing a job at AFL House. Even more so if there is more stuff coming out of the closet. They don't like the bearers of bad publicity and take it personal.

You may be right about Lyon finishing this year. There is a significant and growing level of discontent with the lack of progress towards solving the clubs on-field shortcomings and I doubt too many will accept another dud year and the prospect of more of the same. We only have one decent pick in this year's draft, so we won't be drafting enough ready to go quality to divert the disquiet.

I won't be surprised if he doesn't see the year out and then again, I won't be surprised if the club refuses to acknowledge that disquiet and keeps up the efforts to rehabilitate Lyon in the public's eye.

Pretty sure though he won't get another extension and I doubt he'll coach again after he finishes here unless he gets 'poached' again before his reputation gives out completely

Can Lyon be removed without Bond going with him? Fair enough to say that Ross needs to shoulder responsibility for the losses, I agree with that. But in the end Bond is the Football Manager, he is not blameless either. If he can’t influence Ross to make changes (speculating here) then is he really good enough to be the Football Manager?

I don’t believe that blaming one person or element is going to solve the problems the club is having at the moment, it just isn’t that easy.
