Yep. I'm in the same boat. It's ******.

Mirroring from phone to TV is what I'm going to go with for the rest of the season. Not holding my breath for any sort of resolution re. Apple TV v3 or PS4.
Yeah mirroring works 'ok'. Not great, and it is a pain, but it will a combination of that and the PC for me it seems.

Mirroring is so shit. I had to mirror the Packers game yesterday and every time I opened Twitter the mirror died.

Mirroring is flawless for me. Having a spare iOS device to use exclusively for it may or may not be contributing to that. Don't know. But thus far it's excellent.

Still very much want PS4 and ATV3 restored. Won't hold my breath.

Received reply from NFL support. Just the standard form letter I have received previously.
Apple TV (tvOS)
  • Expected for start of regular season
Playstation 4
  • To be determined; update coming soon
So no answers to my specific questions - Apple TV v3 ETA (and is it going to be still supported)
- will NFL app be in the Australian Playstation store.

Just disgusting customer support.

Of course real quick to report any posts that dare suggest work arounds...

What annoys me is there are all these new NFL network shows this season, such as Elite 11 etc. Except I bet they won't be available on demand, something that surely isn't hard and is an easy addition to make the service better.

Considering they can't even get the Americas Game episodes to play I'd expect not. All I get on iOS devices for AG episodes is an unavailable message. Know others with same issue.

At least the game streaming is working. No point emailing their "customer service" team though.

Publishing content isn't necessarily hard - the problem is there are contracts in place for exclusive content that is only available on the Network for a certain period of time as incentive for Cable companies to carry the NFL Network. This industry (at least in the US) and its finances are still dominated by Cable and Network TV contracts and Digital is largely an afterthought. We in the Digital space would love to offer every piece of content we can, but the TV side still wins those arguments as those rights are worth more. Economics 101....

Note: things may change once the TV agreements are up in a year or two...

This is for an international streaming service though, we don't have access to us cable subscription services

The league is always trying to sell Network rights internationally to cable providers (we just signed a huge deal in China) so likely choose to apply the same rights universally on the off chance someone wants to carry the Network. I'd be astounded if they hadn't had discussions with Foxtel every year to offer the NFL Network but they haven't (yet) made that deal. The league will hold back off giving digital platforms certain content to ensure those rights still have value via exclusivity over content.

The economics on the money sports leagues make on TV deals vs Digital is astounding. The gap between the two is still huge, hence why our guys will keep some aces up their sleeves even at the cost of some digital subscribers. That world is changing slowly, but it'll be interesting to see how the TV and Digital rights deals play out when they are up for renewal between now and 2020.

Gamepass US$124.99 via India.

We're charged US199.99.

Why?

I honestly don't know. Could be an regional pricing strategy by the GamePass operater in that region - note: the NFL doesn't actually run GamePass or set pricing. We (NFL Digital) are only operationally involved in terms of managing some of the back-end technology which is why I have some insight and keep an eye on it when I can. The NFL sells the digital rights to providers who then market and operate the product and the technology in their respective regions. You can therefore get some discrepancy between regions, but Australia and India are operated by the same vendor so I'm not sure what their story is.

My view is they charge what they believe each market is willing to pay. Happens with nearly every product which is sold across the world. Nothing more, nothing less. I think the price for GP in Australia is reasonable FWIW.

Yeah as the other guy said it's just annoying when there aren't those contracts here. I couldn't see Foxtel ever making an agreement with the NFL for the Network but we'll see. It's probably unlikely that'll ever happen and a lot of the good shows air during the day here when it's Primetime in the US - so we miss out. So you could argue there would be a reason to upload things like this which could encourage more people to subscribe. E.g. the Do Your Job doco that aired last week or whatever, I missed it when it aired and I'll have to use another platform to obtain things like that. I understand what you're saying mate and I'm sure you understand some of the frustration from our end.

It's like the Fox college games I was talking about in another thread, you're probably right there are discussions all the time about obtaining the rights, but it hasn't happened yet and it probably won't.

I get that, however in the meantime we have a bunch of shows that are basically inaccessible due to time differences, local providers are unlikely to ever pick up the NFL Network and even if it does happen that means it is likely to impact the availability of offerings on Gamepass reducing the benefits of the service

Thanks for making what I said into a bit more sense lol

Let me stress that while I don't know anything, I would say it's better than a 50% chance that someone (not necessarily Foxtel) offers the NFL Network in Australia in the next 2-3 years. This is simply a prediction based on what is happening in the industry and other International markets. Canada is a perfect example - as of this season you can't actually buy GamePass in Canada anymore. Canadian's can only get NFL content digitally via a service called DAZN that offers NFL content & channels along with other sports. DAZN has been operating in Germany for years as well.

He're some food for thought: DAZN is run by the Perform Media Group who just took over NFL Digital Marketing to certain International markets (including Australia) in May of this year http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Daily/Issues/2017/05/09/Media/NFL-Perform.aspx

....while GamePass is what is offered to Australian's this season, I don't know what they'll decide to do next year.

In the US you also have services like Sling that offer ESPN, Fox Sports and other premium sports/non-sports channels as a digital subscription for $20 a month which is 80% cheaper than your average cable bill. I'm expecting someone will come in over the top and start offering digital alternatives there so you guys have better options at a cheaper price. That's what has happened here in the US and folks are cutting the cable at alarming rate so things are changing quickly.

I'm not an Apple TV user but looking to get involved going forward, mainly because i want to shit can Foxtel.

Can someone explain to me how it works?

Is it basically just a unit that i connect to my TV using HDMI and download streaming apps?

Yep - some are free but most require a subscription (like Gamepass, Netflix, Stan etc)

It has catchup FTA TV as well (ABC iView, SBS On-Demand, CH7, 9 & I think 10 apps too) which are free

Would have been nice if Apple weren't such money hungry grubs and just put a HDMI output on an iPad and saved everyone the $250.

Does Gamepass currently work on Apple TV mate?

Also, what about Foxtel NOW?
