The school might have a say but for the bigger part of the picture its VAFA doctrine that no alcohol be served at games . The three clubs that have come over the the NFNL seem to be doing ok it might be tough for the start but once you start getting more than a hand fufull of people to your games your bar and canteen sale go up , and with bigger crowds it makes getting sponsors on board just that little bit easierDon't know if it makes a difference, but maybe the on school grounds location could challenge the consumption of alcohol guidelines? That said Parade do have a license for the Garvey.
Also, I believe that funds to join a semi-professional competition (EFNL or NFNL) could also be a challenge for where they are at right now. Again, IF they did look at a move then they may get some people in to support that side of things.
It's a good ground to play footy on....even if it was the 11.40 game
not quite right- Vafa have significantly reduced their alcohol rules. It is still not as good as suburban leagues however they can serve alcohol as long as it is contained area- eg clubrooms. Doesn't work for all clubs as some dont have great rooms, but has increased financial intake for most clubs

I remember watching a VAFA GF a number of years ago at Elsternwick Park and watching the whole winning team run across the road to the Elsternwick Hotel straight after the medal presentation for beers in full playing kit
What Division was that in?
Prem A and Div 3 - where a facility allows for it.
If a lunch is on yes. You can still buy a beer without the requirement of attending the lunch, it just has to be consumed in the sanctioned area.
Simply ridiculous. Either way not our issue in the NFNL

One of the other 'hoped for' and something we have seen is the significant increase in crowd numbers with the majority of games played in a local area. As such more supporters attend more games than the need to travel mainly across town southern/eastern based clubs.
Not sure what VAFA can do about that, but the localisation of clubs within the North has helped us to that element with our particular situation.
It will never be overcome and something that will always differentiate the majority of competitions from the VAFA.
Dare I say it, a compelling argument to the membership/playing base when a club decides to leave the VAFA.
I'm glad that it has worked for Ivanhoe, from the outside looking in change has been for the better and most likely ensured the survival of the club. I could say the say the same for Parade/Eltham/Banyule, all clubs in great shape.

It’s also beyond comprehension that a player who has been paid in the past in a different competition that commits to playing football without pay at an amateur club can be denied playing local sport by a band of self serving pompous arrogant campaigners who hide behind ‘guidelines’ that aren’t rules.

At Ivanhoe over the years we had two players join the club after playing VFA and SANFL who were appointed as playing coaches - both were denied a permit to actually play for two seasons. It was less than helpful at the time to say the least.
One was Brad Hall - ex school captain of Assumption who was just 24 years of age. We had just merged with Assumption and were hopeful of building a city based club for any guys moving from the bush. He had been in Melbournes list and then played a year at Sturt. It would have been massive for us to get him playing and encouraging others from Assumption to join - but the league sat him out for two full seasons. It crushed Brad to be honest, and after his third year he moved on to play in 3 flags for Vermont and get BOG in two of them.
The other was Doni Valkanis - ex-Preston VFA for 10 years and then two years at Reservoir-Lakeside. They folded and Doni was appointed coach of Ivanhoe. Several Lakies guys joined our club, but Doni was denied a playing permit for a year. Thankfully Doni hung in there and finally played, coached and is still involved with our club some 30 years later.
And don't even get me started on the Scott Selwood malarkey.....

Thats the ridiculousness that is the VAFA! As mentioned elsewhere on bigfooty that Ivanhoe, Turtles, Banyule, Parade, Bull Temp are now flourishing by leaving the vafa!
Hows the power struggle going to be with current CEO Reddick and Stillman coming in? These 2 blokes couldnt coach a fart out of their own ass!!!!
