NFNL Div 3 discussion 2024

bertybeetle not sure what your point is, everyone knew it wasn’t an even draw
If your club is good enough then they will win enough games to make the finals and then win a flag
If your not good enough, well you are not good enough
Absolutely. My comments is purely stating that now we know more about how teams are faring I’d be pretty confident in them locking away a double chance

How lucky are old paradians getting to play reservoir, lalor and heidelberg west 2 times and mernda once. Interesting in a division of 11 teams they play reservoir twice in a span of 5 weeks.

Epping play stars, mernda, turtles twice but also get heidelberg west, reserrvoir and kinglake twice.

Mernda have star, ivanhoe, epping, turtles twice, they get kinglake twice.

Heidelberg West get reservoir twice and play epping, turtles, ivanhoe, OP twice.

Kilmore have lalor, heidelberg west, kinglake twice, stars, mernda OP twice.

Ivanhoe have heidelberg west, kinglake, reservoir and lalor twice along with mernda and turtles.

Stars have lalor and reservoir twice and play OP, Epping, Mernda twice.

My ladder predictor:
Turtles
Old Paradians
Stars
Ivanhoe
Mernda
Epping
Kilmore
Heidelberg West
Lalor
Kinglake
Reservoir
We finished 7th in Division 5 of the VAFA in 2023. The league could only go on what they could go on. West missed the finals on % and Kinglake finished 3rd (and apparently didn’t lose a game at home).

We’re yet to play Epping, Mernda or Eltham. We beat Ivanhoe by less than a goal.

There’s a fair bit of the season to go, we're taking nothing for granted, and enjoying being in a new environment.

Great to see three 2022 premiership players at training again last night and hoping to join the mix in coming weeks.

We will need the depth as have been absolutely smashed with injury in recent weeks with upto 10 of our best side not available. Unfortunately that list now includes gun forward Ash Close who will miss the next 12 months with ACL and LCL damage. The whole club is gutted for him, but he was around the place last night and in pretty good spirits despite the news.

Significant test this week v Stars who look to have a very strong team in this week as we get another opportunity against one of the premiership favourites.

Horrible news for close. Is this his first ACL?

Yep you have caught the Stars with a very very good side in.

Terrible news Re:Close. One of the marquee players in Div 3 when up and about.

Mate that is really bad news. Loyal bloke like Ash are the cornerstone of all football clubs.

Even Goffas influence couldn’t attract him.😱😱

Ah that's shocking news for Ash mate. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Yes 1st ACL and everyone getting around him (as all clubs would of their players) to support him. As mentioned in previous comments, Ash is a terrific club person and quality player. He turned our club around since returning in 2019 as coach when we were a basket case and was a massive supporter of us moving to the NFNL as 'the best opportunity' for our club to survive and grow. He will stay involved, just not on field for now.

Re Stars - indeed they have a very good side this weekend, arguably their best for the year, so we will see where we are at against one of the yardsticks in the competition on their home deck. Looking forward to the challenge and what we can learn from the day.

How would he go these days? Has kicked 19 goals in 2 games in supers but obviously it’s a complete different standard
I think he will still go ok and I wouldn’t underestimate the standard of the supers in the top Div. if he kicks 5+,lets a couple of other forwards off the hook and no doubt wil drag plenty of onlookers, then should be good.

Stars the side to beat IMO. Our boys hung in there but we're outgunned in the end.

I suspect we will take some scalps along the way if we play like we did today.
Agree Wamba - Stars too good and played well, but we were far from disgraced. Great contest until Stars polish in last 15 mins sealed the game.

As an aside - how good is the competition right now. As predicted by many to be super tight, it has delivered and then some. Great to be a part of it and competitive in our first year.

Eltham just had an off day, West had a cracker. Look across the division the last month or so. Kilmore flogged by Lalor. Kilmore flog OP. Mernda just get over Kilmore. This means that Lalor should beat Mernda?

Of course not, but just proves anyone in Div 3 can lose or win on any given day! Which is great and sets up for a cracker next few months!
