Can someone outline how the changes to the bidding system that come into play next year will influence the AFC?

Does it screw us - or help us. Can any club draft Daicos with pick #1 next year? Is that how it is now gonna work?

Be interesting to see who has the most to win / lose with this decision.
I understand it doesnt apply to F/S selection.

Might as well disband it next year, given that in 2022 clubs won't be able to match bids earlier than pick 41. You have to wonder what the point is of putting in the time and effort if you don't actually derive any benefit when it does produce a worthwhile player. I assume this decision to slowly deflate the balloon rather than just burst it is to allow the players already in the system to go the rest of the way through. Can clubs still add new players to the NGA?

What is typical is that literally nothing has has happened that wasn't foreseeable when they introduced the system in the first place. So it should either continue as is or have never been introduced in the first place. AFL are so ****ing stupid when it comes to not seeing the obvious consequences of their decisions. Do they spend all this million$ on key people and not one ever says, "but you know that this will happen at some point don't you".

I just think it goes against the whole concept of the draft (i.e.. equalisation).

Imagine Jason Torney's son was the standout #1 in the draft, a Matt Rowell type who has dominated the competition and won all the junior awards. Crows have picks 1 and 2 (don't get me started!), but we can't access him because Jason played 118 games for Richmond, who have won 3 of the last 4 flags. They can just swoop in with some rubbish late picks and get a future Brownlow medallist when most people wouldn't even remember his old man played at the tigers.

Tiger supporters would.

Knowing our luck, the standout #1 pick would be Martin Mattner's son, who would go to Sydney after playing 124 games for them, and only 98 games for us.

Anyway, it may turn around and that standout #1 pick might be Rory Atkins' son.

Newchurch is a rookie option only, for me. I don't think Edwards nominates us, and we are quite happy to get Borlase on the list.
The lastest Pick trade points to that, pick 40 been mention for Hately, leave the Crows with enough points for a very late 2nd Plus pick. And that would Borlase

More than likely the AFL will change the rules in relationship to father/son picks when we have a clear cut number 1 contender.

Any club can with NGAs

Low key disappointing the NGA is wrapping up though seeing it sounds like it'll disband by 2022

Always set things up too loose and then come down to hard

Would have made sense no matching first round but then after you get same rights as FS but just kill the whole thing

At least Kurt Tippett’s kids will be all ours!

Can't read the article due to the paywall.

Would be interested to know if this decision has been made purely on ability, or on whether the club had decided they had enough of waiting for Luke, and by
extension Tyson, to decide whether he wanted to nominate as a father-son.

Basically we're concentrating on the top 25 of the draft, don't have him rated that highly, so aren't in the position to guarantee to take him and want him to have the chance to get drafted elsewhere.

Adelaide won't take Luke Edwards as a father-son draft selection

Edwards’ manager Michael Doughty told The Advertiser going into the open draft would be the best thing for the midfielder/half-back’s development.

“We’re disappointed but it also opens up the draft for him and gives clubs time to do a bit more work on Luke,” said Doughty, from TLA.

“I’d rather them be honest now than drag it out and then they don’t pick him.”

Doughty said Edwards had some interest from other clubs and was hoping that would build now that he was in the open draft.

“We’ll gauge that over the next two weeks,” he said.

"Luke is a quality young man and the Club obviously has a long and valued relationship with the Edwards family,” Ogilvie said.

Why say this? No need to bullshit is there?.. just dont mention the relationship at all... Edwards does not have a good relationship with the club. Wouldnt be surprised if what happened with Jackson was the straw that broke the camels back in us deciding to just stay clear.

Doesnt sound like we would even take him as a rookie like Ben Jarman (if he lasted that long).

As we should be concentrating on the top 25. I was just curious as to the reasoning behind the decision from the club.

Interesting... this implies the Edwards camp were keen for Luke to be considered for F-S.
Despite commentary from the Edwards that they were the ones considering their options .....Luke was always keen to get to ADEL

Would have thought most supporters were aware of the relationship between the club and Tyson being poor. Bringing up that relationship again only potentially opens old wounds.

Has this been confirmed by the Edwards family?

It’s a bit of a shame. If we don’t rate him at our ND picks and don’t have a rookie spot for him, then it’s best for both parties. However, with the way past players have been expressing their feel of the club and the shit show that has been the past couple of years, it would have been nice to have a good feels story for a change.

Is it a feel good story if we rookie draft him and then delist him after one year?

We made an error drafting Ben Jarman.

We made an error drafting his brother.

We don’t need to go for the hat trick.
