Mega Thread Nick Daicos - Can he be the GTWEB? Part 2

I do like how you've had to extend the time period to 4 seasons, to include Daicos' debut year, and compare him to players in their absolute prime years as footballers

👏 👏 👏

My statement has been he's #1 since 2023 - do you disagree with that?
Nick's debut season was coming off 2 years where he played and trained for about 6 weeks with a team - due to covid. Astonishingly, he didn't arrive in the AFL as the best player in the league ...

We've already discussed it mate. Do you have Alzheimer's? Find the posts if you need to revisit it. But I see you're not challenging my list of players being as good or better over the last 4 years. I'll gladly accept that as a concession. So much for "undisputed best player in the competition". He's just one of around 7 players who have been top tier over the past few years.
You're right, I don't recall our discussion, because anything coming from you isn't too memorable.

But yes, if you're happy to have to include Daicos's rookie season to find a handful of players who in their prime have been his equivalents, then kudos to you.

But Daicos is peerless since his 2nd season.

I don't need to.

The facts speak for themselves.

Daicos is on track for about 25 podium finishes in the 3 major awards.

Heeney on track for 3.

You are the only person I have ever heard describe it as a "podium finish"

Also if you think that is the measure of a player then you clearly don't know what you are talking about. Heeney can do everything Daicos can do, but Daicos can't do everything Heeney can do.

Looks like you can't remember the s**t you spout either as you were also involved in the discussion and very animated at the time.

You can throw a blanket over Daicos and a bunch of others for either the 2022-2025, 2023-2025, 2024-2025 period or for any of the last 3 seasons in isolation. Which again, is a massive compliment to Daicos. I know you're taking it as a huge personal insult but that's just your devotion based bias speaking.

Except be influential in a premiership win (amongst other attributes).

Daicos in his 4 seasons so far has received more opposition attention than Heeney has throughout his significantly longer career.

Oh, and 7 podium finishes in 4 years trumps 2 podium finishes in 9 years.

Go ahead and share the names of the 'bunch of others' for the 2023 to 2025 period, with your supporting rationale, in the same way i have shared mine.

Go.

Most podium finishes in the 3 x major home and away awards 2023 to 2025:
7 - N. Daicos
4 - M. Bontempelli
3 - P. Cripps

Let's do 2022 to 2025:
7 - N. Daicos
4 - M. Bontempelli
4 - P. Cripps

Let's do 2021 to 2025:
7 - N. Daicos
7 - M. Bontempelli
4 - P. Cripps

Let's do 2020 to 2025:
7 - N. Daicos
7 - M. Bontempelli
6 - L. Neale

Let's do 2019 to 2025:
8 - M. Bontempelli
8 - L. Neale
7 - N. Daicos

So we need to go back to 3 years before Daicos' career even started, to have the greats of our game in Bontempelli and Neale, to overtake Nick Daicos in podium finishes in the three major individual awards available...

Most podium finishes in the 3 major awards since the turn of the century:
18 - Gary Ablett Jnr
10 - Chris Judd
10 - Patrick Dangerfield
8 - Nathan Fyfe
8 - Marcus Bontempelli
8 - Patrick Cripps
8 - Lachie Neale
7 - Nick Daicos
6 - Dustin Martin

where he was rated the highest player on the ground and played with a broken foot and a pcl
Yeah, and zero coaches votes
Have a look at wil ashcrofts player ratings and his coaches votes.

“Gravely injured” “Broken foot” 🙄
He told channel 7 he had a stress reaction in his 5th metatarsal and a strain in his PCL that happened in the weeks leading into the game that was so bad he waited til post season to have a scan.
No surgery post season.
PCL grade 1-2 tears >3mths recovery.
If you have a hotspot in a metatarsal it can be over 10 weeks before you can run and more if it’s broken.
Between the loss and that article it’s less than 10 weeks and he goes onto say that he’d been running with Quaynor.

Bottom line is that he was nowhere near 100% in that Preliminary Final, yet he almost single-handedly carried his team into a Grand Final (as we've been told Collingwood have no other decent midfielders), even after we lost Pendlebury in the first minute of the game....

This may hold some weight if it was mentioned before hand.
Seems like another piece of media propaganda to suffice the Collingwood followers.

I’m still waiting for Fadge ti explain why the undisputed best player didn’t have undisputed better numbers than NWM in 2025.
Oh boy.

I've already showed you my 'performance matrix' (your term, not mine), where Daicos finished 'comfortably ahead' of NWM in every major award, with Daicos also having the better finals series.

Happy for you to share any data that you believe supports your assertion.....

Come on, I'm itching to see 'But, but.... MeTReS GaiNeD!'

Interesting those two comments
Lost Pendlebury in the first minute
Almost made a grand final

There’s no doubt you were at least one quality midfielder short, probably two.

At what point do you think it’s an unacceptable risk to, the higher chance of injury and Preformance of a 37yr old?
Obviously not making it to a grand final.
You’ve said it yourself, you almost made a grand final.
The loss of Pendlebury made it far more difficult to win.
Your nursing him to the games record, I’ve asked before.
At what point is it putting the individual ahead of the team?

Will Nick Daicos move into equal second spot for podium finishes in major awards this century in 2026 as a 23 year old, or will we have to wait until 2027, when Nick will be 24, for him to do so?

Massive year coming up!
Just a matter of time

Should pass Ablett by 2032 and become the indisputable player of the century

Huh?

'Nursing a player to a games record', who had played 21 of a possible 24 games for the season, had a week's rest before the Preliminary Final, and finished 8th in his club's best and fairest?

Not all players are like Dustin Martin, who could barely get a kick once they hit their 30's....
