Well you’d think the undisputed best player would lead in all areas.
Seems NWM who’s more versatile and playing in a younger team was his equal.
Here's a bit of education for you....

When players play different roles, their stats are different. How many MeTReS GaiNeD do you think Daicos loses by virtue of his 100% MORE clearances?

Do you also expect a better player to have a higher number of rebound 50's AND score involvements?

So come on, explain why NWM was on a par with Daicos in 2025 coz FooTYWiRe STaTZ?

He can float around hb and do whatever he wants, like Andrew McLeod most of his career
The difference is, McLeod played on a strong team, so did receive a fair amount of opposition attention.

But when the better teams have been playing St. Kilda, they've just been able to back their superior systems to get the job done, and haven't had to worry about investing time and energy into the Saints key playmaker.

Let's see if that changes in 2026 and beyond, and if so, how NWM handles it..

LOLOLOL.

Gary Ablett Junior averaged fewer contested marks and fewer hit outs than Mason Cox throughout their respective careers.

We therefore can't say GAJ was 'undisputedly better' than big Mason!

What? You're the one who began with stats don't matter and have now switched to Nick has to be better in all stats to be better.
Poor Adam H.

Imagine trying to think a loose HB that takes kick-ins (boosting a players disposal and meters gained numbers) but can't win a hard ball, or clearance is the better player.

Be like GWS fan trying to compare the Lachie's (Ash and Whitfield) to Tom Greene and saying the Lachie's are better because of meters gained and because they take more marks.

Well I’m asking how he is indisputably better.
Stats ?
Awards well that’s ridiculous as well.
Hype? Well I’m not sure a player has been pumped up more.
Or just watching the game and seeing

Yeah, and zero coaches votes
You do realise that Nic had

the most disposals for the Pies for the game (and second half) went at 85% DE, which is amazing for a bloke winning the most CPs and clearances for his team.
the most contested possessions for the Pies
the most clearances for the Pies
the most centre clearances of any player on the ground
the 3rd most meters gained on the ground
the 2nd most inside 50s for the Pies

Laughable that you have decided this was a poor game from Nic. Nic and Jamie were the Pies best by a fair way.

When half a dozen of your team mates have poor games, the team ain't going to win a big PF.

If you are hell bent on having a crack at some Pies fire away at DeGoey, Houston, IQ, Sidey, Perryman, Long, Mihocek and Moore who were all average / well below what they produced in the QF.

It just goes to show where Daicos' game is at when they use than game as an example of a 'poor game'.

Astounding.

My other favourite was the Doggies game when Daicos had one of the most amazing first halves you'll ever see, but was overrun by Bont AND Treloar for a narrow Dogs victory.

Yep Naicos has much better all round stats.

NWM still boosting his through 4-5 kick ins a game.
Awards well that’s ridiculous as well.
Yep, as coaches, players don't know who the best players are.

Better to use meters gained and kick-ins 🤣
Hype? Well I’m not sure a player has been pumped up more
True, NWM is ridiculously hyped for a bloke who doesn't win his own ball.
Or just watching the game and seeing
If you did that you would have seen Nic transition from the soft free wheeling HBF (the role NWM played in 2025) to the Pies main inside midfielder in 2024.

Incorrect
More than welcome to check.
Love the narrative of one doesn’t find his ball but Daicos I will run to the wrong position and call does.

I love Naicos, and overall he's had a far better career. However, some of the things NWM was doing, especially towards the end of the year, were crazy impressive, really freakish stuff! NWM is still behind and would need to back it up again this season, but honestly, if you asked me to pick one right now, I’d probably lean towards NWM.

They are all fair comments, but the facts are Daicos has outperformed NWM in 4 of 4 seasons at the level, and had done so despite receiving more attention than any other player in the competition.

It is yet to be seen as to how NWM deals with similarly regular opposition attention, because it will be coming in 2026 and beyond. For the sake of the game I hope he can handle it, because I too love watching him in full flight.

Daicos has avg 13.9 and 10.5 CPs per game in last two seasons, NWM 5.4 and 7.5.

Daicos has avg 1.8 and 2.0 hard ball gets, NWM 0.6 and 1.0

Daicos has avg 7.7 and 6.2 clearances, NWM hard ball gets, NWM 1.0 and 3.1

Daicos has avg 7.3 and 7.8 score involvements, NWM hard ball gets, NWM 4.3 and 6.3

Daicos has avg 30.7 and 30.0 disposals, NWM 25.7 and 29.9 - but Daicos avg 0.2 kick-ins, NWM 4.1...adjusted disposals end up being Daicos 30.5 and 29.8, NWM 21.6 and 25.8.

So Daicos wins more of his own ball, wins clearances for his team, is involved in setting up more scoring...the only thing NWM has him covered in is kick-ins, meters gained and uncontested marks across HB (all linked to NWMs role as an outside player who the Saints want to give the ball to).

Stats are fun 👍

Probably explains why coaches and players have both agreed that Daicos was their player of the year / MVP.

Go to 2025 as I’ve asked numerous times.

Contested ball by the way is a very broad and loose way of describing it.

Please don’t suggest that Daicos doesn’t run 15 meters sideways to receive easy ball.
