Preview No Changes vs Saints

I think Sando is trying to bring back some belief in each other as a team. Something that has been sadly lacking in the last 2 games and which threatens to derail the season if not addressed this weekend.

He cannot control the injury situation or the poor form of individual key players but the teams collective mentality is taking a hiding. He has been upfront about the teams lack of having a go or taking a chance and made a point of their licence to go for it and not be too worried about the consequences. This is pretty much all he can do at this stage of the season.

Unfortunately his career will be determined by the response to his pleading this weekend as the only other course he will have available if all goes wrong will be to make major changes next week and this could be seen as the beginning if the end.

Moving Jaensch up the ground will make it hard for us to move the footy. Talia, Rutten, Brown, Hartigan offer little rebound and aren't penetrating kickers. Laird a bit the same. All good players but it leaves all our back half ball movement to be initiated by Smith or Reilly.

I thought with the recruitment of Betts we would see a more determined Petrenko this season. I was so sure he would address his fitness levels to become part of a successful and much more defensive forward line.
Jeansch has taken the next step so perhaps pets is not far behind.

Excellent point and no way we can afford Jaensch up the ground. Both he and Smith set us up and at least try and get something going.

It seems a bit unfair they get lumped with the stat of most goals conceded directly from their turnovers. They run hard out of position and are not getting team defence coverage if they make an error.

Can't recall the exact stat but WCE have some ridiculously low amount of goals conceded from turnovers - whilst the turnover itself is grabbing all of the attention, what is escaping the spotlight is our defensive action once it occurs.

What I don't want to see is a Jaensch or a smith start hesitating to take the game on because their team mates are too lazy to get back and cover on the occasions they burn it.

Never better illustrated than Sando on the boundary just before 3/4 time last week waving wildly for players to get back and cover.

Not sure why you lot are favourites for this game, haven't seen much from Adelaide this year, seems like quite a few are under an injury cloud and you are playing away against a team that is in better form. Do you think you'll win?
Is there anyone in the country apart from Sando who doesn't think Petrenko is a massive spud?
Love Grigg though, hope he plays gonna be a gun.

Me :)

The world was beginning to close in on Sando and I don't want to think that display was just to show himself as....
Ive decide to stop this post right here and personally deal with my lack of outright faith.

supercoach related question but M.Crouch in any danger of the vest?

Interesting Harper said today that part of he reason for an unchanged side was that no one from the reserves was pressuring for a spot, with the possible exception of Martin:confused:
Wow, what an utter w***er. You can say that when the team is flying, not when the team is winless sitting second to bottom.

God we have so many people out of their depth at our club.

There was one guy pushing for a spot, but it wasnt Brodie..... but really only CEY stood up and said pick me.

Threatens to derail the season? Get season back on track?

The season is already ****ed. 1 win will not get it back on track. Perhaps 5-6 wins in a row may do that.

Our goals fron turnovers is obviously the worst in the league.

Where are we sitting for total turnovers?

We are ranked the highest team in terms of conceding goals from turn overs, the next worse is Carlton and in saying that we have conceded 65pts more than Carlton

Yes I know that but what I'm asking is where we rank in turnovers.

In other words (as per Peter J's point), is the problem that we're turning it over lots of times or is it that when we do turn it over the opposition are able to score too easily?

Preemptive hilarious reply: Both.

Haha.

Ok let's discuss now.

For clangers, we are ranked 8th in the comp..
Average of 44 per game..
But that probably isn't an actual turnover, it could be just messing up but doesn't lead to your opponent taking the ball away..
It's hard to find actual turnover stats..

From watching last week, we look so slow to react when we do turn it over.. That's the biggest problem..
In the 2nd half, the body language wasn't great.. I saw a few guys do the shoulder drop after a turnover like "ffs, now I got to get back quick to cover" etc and then pretty well just jog off while Sydney players were sprinting past them to get ahead of the play as options..
The problem of working defensively has been around for a while now, I was mentioning it last year.. Especially from our midfielders.. The turnovers are making it even worse..

IIRC from last weeks footy shows (cant remember which one) your preemptive hilarious reply is about right.

It seem that the more of the football we win, the worse we go. If we get smashed in clearances, Inside 50's, contested ball... perhaps this will actually make it harder to score against us.

Sort of like the Michael Scott Paper Company's business plan: The more paper they sold, the less money they made. (Why are all my metaphors drawn from tv?)

So did Thommo, Grigg and Kerridge get through training?
