What's he said?Watching Smiths presser. F*** this is a car wreck. No winners.
I remember something was said, couldn't recall what. Of course context is important, I wasn't trying to make out Clarke was the only guilty party, was more just trying to demonstrate that we can be quite a mouthy team on the field.Context is important. Clarke was apparently responding after Anderson had threatened to kill one of his players...

Warner posted on social media we'd hear from him in a few days, apparently he is having one when he lands after all. CA must have put its foot down.Not so much what he said (the right things) but how he looks/appears - which is utterly distraught and destroyed. It's hard to watch. Bancroft was too.
I'm kinda conflicted that I don't anticipate feeling anywhere near the same level of sympathy for Warner if/when he fronts.
We set the standards for what's acceptable for our team. South Africa have to do the same for their team. If we are unhappy with their management response to cheating, then maybe we shouldn't play them. I'm not sure about that.Is that’s true we need to refuse to play the Saffers given their twice convicted ball tampering captain or does it only apply to us?

Probably only one more domino to fall if at all with Sutherland to speak in 40mins. People saying he won't quit but I cant imagine this will claim any other players/coaches. Darkest day in Aussie cricket when you look at the aftermath. Claimed four BIG names, not even the underarm ball did that.Lehmann gone too. Says it's "the right time" to go.
Make of that what you will.
The train wreck continues.
Hope you've got good people around you mate.Hate with Smith had done but hats off to him
Showed true remorse, admitted he was wrong and will fight back better than ever. I'm going through tough times in life, and it's good to see somebody acknowledge where they went wrong, cop the consequence and become a better person for it. Australia will get behind him again. Kudos
i wonder if the ball tampering was not a one off.
do you think CA know more?
I’m sure that he was given the opportunity to resign before being sacked like Jobe giving his medal back.
He had to go, he has been vocal in setting up this current culture, he couldn’t be the guy to oversee a changing culture.
I don’t like the culture he has set but I do like him as a person. He seemed to genuinely care for his players and I’m sure he’s devastated right now. I hope he is not lost to the game of cricket.

It’s been going on for years by all sides. The Saffers were getting reverse in under 15 overs in the first test.
That’s why these penalties are OTT. If you think the penalties are not enough then campaign to change them but to isolate 3 players is simply unfair.

i know that, ive followed enough cricket to realize that its not a uncommon practice. but i was talking about this specific incident with these players .
and yes i also think its OTT reaction. but i think its more a buildup of issues and maybe the lying and cover ups
with the flat pitches, i would allow ball tampering to balance things out if i had my way. after all they let bat sizes get huge , making it unfair for the bowlers
Whatever we allow or not allow on the field what we should never allow is two sets of rules that we have done this week.
One set where Faf a multiple offender can be captain of his country and another where his our captain is banned for a year on first offence.
All this talk of a build up of incidents is not relevant to the current situation.

I understand your viewpoint. Agree with some of it. However the premeditation to carry out the plan is very wrong first of all and then smith to allow this to happen as captain stinks of a lack of leadership.
The bans are OTT , preferred it to he halved.
Yes I get the premeditation but i still come back to my point about Faf do you believe that was some sort of random one off that had no premeditation? What about the poms with their mints they are even had it down to a specific brand and the whole team knew.
All I am saying is that justice needs to be fair and even and in this case our hysteria has blinded us to fairness

What they would have thought is that the ball has started to wear due to the deliberate bounce in throwing that all teams do (the Safffers have perfected this and are constantly warned by the umpires). This is obviously not an exact science and depending on how hard the ball is thrown and where it lands the wear will vary hence why sometimes the ball swings more than others and at different times.Starc and Hazlewood get thrown ball by Bancroft after it was sandpapered, being experienced test cricketers, did they:
(A) think, “hey cool” this ball is really scuffed now, reverse swing coming up, what an amazing coincidence;
(B) not realise the wear on the ball (if so, they shouldn’t be anywhere near a cricket ground, let alone a test match);
(C) know exactly what condition the ball would be in when it landed in their hands prior to each delivery?
Same for all the bowlers really - how CA/Lehmann/the rest of the team can expect anyone to believe professional test cricketers didn’t notice, or if they did, didn’t question the abnormal ball wear, and yet were not part of the plot, is taking everyone for fools.
Yes...but we can only control what we do. That was my point. What do we think is the appropriate standard is for our team? Make a stand on that and not stoop lower just because someone else doesn't meet that standard. We shouldn't engage in a race to the bottom.If we are going to take the moral high ground by banning our players for one year for doing what the SA captain has done twice then logic would suggest we must demand the same punishment for our opponents.
