Does anybody have any experience using iMessage internationally?

I have a friend in Canada that I would like to contact using it, but when I use it locally it's prone to opting to send the message as a text if for some reason iMessage is unavailable. Is there a way I can set it up so that it doesn't default back? I.e. it waits for iMessage to become available again rather than automatically sending it as a text.

I feel no sense of allegiance to any current NBA team but want to start getting into it with more regularity. Which young up & coming bandwagon should I jump on?

Utah? I like jazz, they have a couple of Aussie players and always came up short in the 90s (whiff of the Dogs about them).
Ben Simmons (though the 76ers rebuilding methods seem a bit unsavoury)?
Minnesota? I used to wear a pair of KG's shoes when I played ball back in the day.
Delly and the Bucks?

Those in the know - help a brother out.
