Watching other games and it slaps me in the face how amo's level our team really is. It's like I'm watching a completely different sport.

Like watching the Premier league when your team's in the third division.

The really sad thing is this stretch of dominance by the Swans in the middle combined with their slingshot play is exactly how we are gonna get torched all season.

Carlton's transition play is very West Coast-esque.

Maybe we're ahead of the curve?

Watching Sydney walk it out the front of center bounces with their own ruckmen being dominated, makes me cringe for what we are in stall for against us week and in, week out.

Either way, we’re cactus

I’m sure we’ll get ample opportunity over the course of the season to reflect on our poor performances when they come, so maybe leave the criticism out of the Non- Eagles Discussion Thread

It can get a bit tiresome after a while

He was talking purely about all time goals scored in a quarter, hence why we got a mention.

We must have torched some gimp team in 2015 and went full flat track.

That gimp team is our next opponent.

Round 7, 2015 - 12.0 in the 3rd quarter against Fold Coast.

C.Masten and M.Priddis had 82 disposals between the two them. E.Yeo 29 disposals and 4 goals to get the remaining Brownlow vote.

Considering it was 11 years ago, it is somewhat surprising that five players featuring in that match are still currently playing: E.Yeo, L.Duggan, J.Cripps, T.Miller and D.Prestia.

Christ, just watched the third quarter.

Has Voss never heard of a sweeper? Any danger of closing the gate as Sydney rampage out the front of stoppage again and again?
I picked up a book at half time, checked the score later and wtf, went back and watched the 3rd qtr. 2 goals in a half then 12 in a qtr is insane. My favorite bit is when Carlton pick a fight after every goal.

I must say young Dean in his 1st game had a big impact, this kids going to be elite.

Jagga also had a very good game to be fair, he is a total outside running player who racks up possessions with 27 a fair effort.
He maybe Gulden type wing/outside mid at his top or a very good outside running mid who links up with possessions.
He will very likely never be an inside mid as that body that he has been working on for several years to get bigger with elite diet and training/gym work.
Good luck to him.

If he wants to emulate Gulden he has a bit of work to do.

Gulden 11 tackles vs Jagga’s 2

I think Carlton's midfielders simply hit the wall whilst Sydney's ran through it.

The shear numbers they [the Swans] were getting to each contest and then running ahead meant they always had free players as an option out the front each time.

Pace was a clear issue as well. Sydney knew that if any of their elite midfielders could get a step on their counterparts they weren't going to get caught and played directly to that strength.

Carlton's midfield only looked effective when they could keep things tight and make the ground feel as small as possible. Otherwise they seemed very one-paced and exceptionally vulnerable to fast ball movement.

Sydney on the other hand, if they stay fit they look set for a top 2 place.

Didn't we kick 12 in the first quarter in our first ever game against GWS?

Pretty sure their stadium wasn't ready and we played at Bankstown.

Agree on H.Dean, played very well in his first game - was arguably the highlight of the match from a Carlton perspective.

Disagree on the E.Gulden comparison for J.Smith. E.Gulden has massive impact per possession due to his elite disposal by foot and ability to hit the scoreboard in addition to his running.

A more apt comparison would be S.Walsh - he accumulates huge numbers primarily through running and work rate, but those numbers don't have a significant impact on the scoreboard outcome. S.Walsh had more disposals than any other player on the ground in the match against Sydney, but that did little to stop his team from losing by 10 goals.

That said, accumulators have their place, and I would be stoked if one of our debutants managed 27 disposals - Carlton should be very pleased with him.

The thing with Walsh was he actually had the highest metres gained on the ground.

The issue is none of his teammates went with him(to paraphrase David Kin).

7 of the top 10 metres gained players were Swans and one of the Carlton players(Florent) is an ex-Swan.

The rest of the Carlton players just seemed to like dinky passes to each other instead of trying to gain terrirtory.

Close, 11.4

Round 3, 2012 - WCE 23.12.150 vs GWS 10.9.69 at Blacktown Oval

5 goals from L.Shuey in that match also.

GWS had T.Greene, S.Coniglio, A.Treloar and J.Cameron in that first-year squad who are still playing today.

J.Darling the only Eagle featured that remains in the competition today.

Almost forgot that GWS did the whole I.Folau code-swap for a bucket of cash thing back then.

He had the same number of disposals as J.Cameron (2).

Thought you'd remember that game. Prime Marsden he picked up I reckon 21 disposals in the last quarter, put his skis on big time.

Agree with all your points except Walsh comparison.
Walsh is a bull in the middle and like you say he doesn't do that much damage.

Jagga will never be that type of player, he is all outside and the accumulator like you say.
He needed to make some better decisions with by foot tonight and that's ok for his 1st game.
I was giving credit where its due, 27 disposals on debut is a really good game.
Glad Carlton have him and the price they paid was VERY high.

The player from that draft that WC should have taken if they kept our 1st pick is H Langford and he probably has the best career from the midfielders in the open draft.

Seemed to me Carlton lost in the same way they lost most of their games last year - win the contest (+17 for CPs), get torched on the outside. The players they added to try to fix this (the ex-swans, Ainsworth, Chesser) looked good in the first half, but couldn't keep it up.

I still reckon they'll do better this year than the worst 6 teams, but how high they go will rely on their new guys keeping at it for longer.

And as for Chesser - such a typical game from him. Middling touches, little impact, caught with it a couple of times. Champion Data had him 5th worst on ground with a 3.7...all around, after one game, having the list spot back is more valuable to us.

Up until the start of the third my highlights were a glimps of our clubs Auskick kids at half time and a lingering though that we could beat the Swans. Keep draft the very best mids.

Chesser is a shame on us not Carlton - we used a firts round pick. I do however wonder how such liong term injuries impact the body and mind. He isnt moving well at all.

Also expect kids to fade

I was at vthe game - could not find Cameron - he moved like a mid and I was looking fro a tall forward. To be fair we decimated them in the first half then they came out very physical and belted us in the contests.

Reckon he ends up a Gaff clone.
