Might be similar to the Ebert/Dangerfield situation for Adelaide (I hope). The crows supporters on BF lost their shit when they passed on Ebert for Danger, especially how well Ebert played for us in his debut year, while Danger did not play a single game(?). Danger ended up being the better player easily. Maybe its like that?

And then once he's good he goes back to Victoria to play?

our goal is not to do an adelaide and bleed other players but to push for a flag with danger.

I rated adelaide's list ages ago and apart from 2012, they have underachieved so much. Should have been in at least one gf.

Surprised to see that Scott Thompson has started the season off with the crows SANFL side. Crows are prepared to play a 300 game veteran in the reserve but we are not prepared to drop or overlook senior players with mediocre form.

i had tipped melbourne and then someone talked me out of it.
It's been an eternity since Melbourne beat st kilda at Etihad as historically they're shit at that ground so I went with the saints. If it had been at the MCG I would have gone Melbourne

Always expected Essendon to come out big in their first game and thought hawthorn would struggle without Mitchell, Lewis and hodge for the first time in forever

We are the AFL boys club.

i expected the returning players to be slow starters and not be very influential.

Yes but if we had a firing SPP our premiership chances might improve, instead of playing Redden or Hutchings.

If it takes 2-3 years to get Venables up to speed, Priddis and Kennedy may have retired by then.

Those returning players have been preparing for this game for ages, they were always going to come out hard. Backing up next week might be hard but fortunately they have Brisbane albeit at the Gabba

Front page of a snot rag that's been all over players using recreational non PEDs this week now celebrating the return of players found guilty of using PEDs

No hypocrisy here

Which understates the impact he had on the match

Kicked a goal from well outside 50 in the third quarter which lifted his side and was a fingernail away from kicking the sealer in the 4th

He showed all the traits today that made me such a fan last year - hard at the contest, chases, not afraid to back himself, can breakaway from a contest at pace, finds the goals and is a strong big bodied mid.

Added to that he was a diehard Eagles supporter who loved the club and had exposure to our system through East Perth. From all reports he was a great kid who got to where he was despite considerable adversity.

There were a lot of reasons to recruit him and it would have been a great feel good story had we done so

For a club that's been traditionally risk averse with their first round draft picks we overlooked the obvious choice. Instead we went the higher risk/higher reward option with the more talented Venables who was considered a top 10 pick by some but had issues with his foot/feet. He's also a Victorian lad so he will always be a potential flight risk

Now I like the look of Venables but if his feet remain an issue or he goes home early or doesn't fulfil his talent then the recruiters deserve a bollocking for passing on a player that was right under their nose

Alternatively if Venables develops into a bigger stronger version of shuey then they deserve the plaudits

All we can hope for now is SPP doesn't sign a extension to stay at Port and try to lure him home ..

I am trying to hope WCE hadn`t stuffed up as SPP is very hard to ignore when he plays and is possibly a future gun ..

Can`t wait till we play Port ..

SOP will tear us a new one. Looks like Riewolt will be ok.

In a week where we've been pilloried for events from over a decade ago, a team of confirmed PED users just got cheered onto the field like a bunch of returning heroes underwritten by a media hailing it as a good news story

The article posted by the AFL post game saying "It's a perfect start for a new year at Essendon" pissed me off, West Coast have been trying to move on for years now, completely changed the club culture to the point of it being one of, if not the best in the league yet the Victorian media still won't let us move on. And what's worse is they're trying to make the current team pay for it through distractions by releasing "new" information at important stages of a year for the club. Having the front page or pull out of Chicks article posted all over Melbourne streets as the club arrived in Melbourne for Grand Final week in 2015 was pathetic. Half expect the Norf idiots to boo us and call us West Coke Eagles at the game this weekend. No doubt the commentators will be all over it too.

Why can't we be labelled "brave" in the face of adversity for once :smirk:

Also Gresham is going to be a superstar small forward

Love watching Gresham play, Saints have a bloody good one on their hands! What bugs me though is we could have had him on the list had we not decided to bring in Redden, which so far seems like a complete waste of a trade, could potentially have had Gresham and Rioli running around the forward line.
