But SPP was a local, had trained with us, could have contributed straight away (I mean, we recruited Mitchell and friends so we could target an instant flag, right?) and didn't have lingering injury concerns.

It was a very illogical pick.

Wouldn't have mattered if we did draft him. He'd be playing at EP for the next 2 years with the odd game in the firsts where we'd try to get him playing on a flank, would be shit at it and we'd delist him in 4 years.

We've recruited and developed poorly for some years now. I'd go as far to say that, in terms of hot young prospects, we'd be in the bottom couple in the league.

FWIW I'd consider Venables one of these few hot prospects. I like him, he's just always going to be up against it with our fans due to the SPP factor.
