I like your optimism but we love scapegoats around here. I must admit I sometimes participate in it too re: Masten and LeCras.

Not too sure he'll cop it to be honest, I've only seen positive things about him so far.
But our recruiters are useless. It's like they try to be too smart and instead of going for the obvious picks try and take the out of left field guys in the hopes they'll turn into guns. It's like me in my fantasy footy draft, I try to take too many guys on potential when I should have just gone for the obvious guy, 99% of the time it backfires.

There were plenty of posters on here predraft that didn't like SPP because of his disposal issues and very few phantom drafts had him going as high as our pick so it's not just our recruiters that misjudged him

But there were also plenty of guys on here (yourself included) who wanted SPP and saw him for what he is, a ready made, line breaking, game winning midfielder.

To be fair, they only had 7 days to prepare for this game. They had six months to prepare for Geelong and that wasn't long enough, according to Lyon, can't expect much on the back of a 7 day break.

I am not hanging shit on DV. From the little he has done so far he seems promising. My comment is directed at the recruiters, as another poster said SPP was right under our noses and we overlooked him, nothing to do with DV.

They are paid to identify talent, as an armchair expert I would defer to them for now. We haven't even seen Venables in an AFL game, not prepared to compare him to SPP until then.

Being Victorian should not mean they must automatically be rated lower than equivalent WA talent. Some of our best players are from interstate. If we stuffed up with Venables then them's the breaks.

Yes I, and others, desperately wanted us to take him as he had the tools to be a very good AFL player which he is now showing

But it should at least be acknowledged that this wasn't a universal view
