Dockers are trying to get the Dogs to move their game with them to WA, which is strange because they were so against North trying to sell us their home game against us several years ago.

I'll let Darryl Kerrigan field this one

Maybe they're scared!

Am I the only one who didn't really have any issue with May's clash on Rockliff?
I didn't either, he was just trying to bump his opposing player away from the ball. Happens heaps in games, you only see this one because Rockliff (who has obviously run over a black cat whilst walking under a ladder.) got hurt.

The problem is, the afl has made it clear that the head is sacrosanct. May also then went past the ball. Once you do that, you've got another "realistic attempt" to contest the ball.

They arent going to concede this one, like they didn't for fyfe's from last year. If you choose to bump, that's fine, just don't get them high unless you want a holiday. Unfortunately for May, that means he joins a long list of players on the sidelines with a beer in their hand at Metricon on Saturday. ;)

I think May's only problem was that he was too tall.
If another shorter player went for the bump there would have been no impact on the jaw.
That was my thought also. But Rockliff isn't that short really either.

Just Rockliff in the wrong place at the wrong time.

If he played for a big Victorian club, he would have got off at the tribunal, IMO, like maxwell on mcginnity in that pre-season game a few years ago. They would make it about the "bump being dead".

It's because of that they changed the rule

I don't see any problem with the suspension. You hit someone high then you're in trouble. When you bump, just get low and you'll be fine. Not going for the ball, bumping someone high and putting them out of the game, severely affecting the other teams ability to compete, deserves at least 2 weeks imo

How was he not going for the ball? They were side by side approaching a loose ball, May tried to clear out his opponent to give himself free possession as he would've been taught since junior footy days. At worst it was a legitimate football move poorly executed - it's a joke that it gets the same penalty as Hodge's forearm smash to Swallow that is not, and never has been, legitimate contact in footy.

Seriously people bringing the Fyfe bump is ridiculous. Fyfe chose to bump when he should have tackled. The rule was ridiculous but it was fairly applied.

May hadn't gone past the ball - in fact he soccers the ball with his forward momentum, moments after he lays the bump - pretty hard to do that when the ball is behind you.

Last year Ballantyne was cleared by the tribunal for pretty much the same offence, blocking the player off the line when challenging for the ball

The suspension is not at all in keeping with consistency

It was a legitimate football move and as you said, poorly executed.
