Brad Scott raises a must fix situation re blood rule interchanges,
http://m.afl.com.au/news/2016-04-10/brad-scott-postmatch-r3
With how many of our blokes were sent off with cuts to the head, I'm surprised we didn't hit the cap.
Forced off with the blood rule surely shouldn't count as an interchange.
Yeah that's pretty silly that players coming off under the blood rule count as an interchange. Would have thought that was excluded

I don't know if the initial swap is counted, but if you want to get the player back on that was forced off then you have to use an interchange. Pretty stupid, probably something the AFL will refine.

Out of interest, did Bob Murphy coming off with his knee use an interchange? With a couple of minutes to go, both teams were at 89 interchanges.

But imagine how it might be abused, with players opening up their veins intentionally to get a free rest on the bench!

But nah seriously, it really seems like Brad Scott had the excuse ready should they have lost, then thought it was too good a gripe to not pull out in the presser. From what I gather, most teams are managing the interchanges to ensure that a handful are left in the last couple of minutes of the match.

Honestly don't see the problem if the interchanges are managed properly. The rule wouldn't cost games in his thought experiment. Poor coaching would cost the game.

I think for the blood rule you should be allowed to take the player off, stop the bleeding and send him back for the same player without it counting towards the rotation cap because it is not really a rest rotation. In a game like your game against Freo there were a lot of blood flowing and it would have chewed into the rotations a fair bit.

Otherwise allow the doctors to just put the cream on the player on-field and tape over the cut so clubs can just patch players without it requiring an interchange. If they can't stop the bleeding then they can interchange him off. just let the game go on, fewer interruptions.

He had an older brother name Shaun.
shaun was dirty af. i still remember the day he picked kerr up and dropped him head first into the ground. Always admired peter tho.

Thanks for clarifying that. Tend to agree that a player returning after being sent off with the blood rule shouldn't be counted

And the murphy one is interesting as well. A team could get burnt at some stage if a player gets hurt late in the game like that and they've used their 90 changes.

What's the penalty in that situation- just can't bring a player on or a free kick?

Masten gag?

Stevens and Ebert both aren't anything special. Solid foot soldiers and nothing more.
ebert would have been handy for us still. He's more of a goal kicking mid and for an outside player he can actually use him on the inside as well. We had pretty decent 07 draft but only have masten to show for it.

Coming off doesn't count, coming back on does.

Murphy's did as it wasn't a blood rule.

Ebert still can't kick, for an outside player he isn't damaging at all.

Think they flogged us by 77. Their premiership year.

Jetta was only 'Warmly Applauded'? Way to skew things a little bit in the article...
