He left in 2009 and missed the big one in 2010 and that other big thing in 2016 as well as 2018. Didn't we pick up a bloke called Roughie in the trade?

Great to see the boys doing ok because Longrain / Longsong are pretty expensive.

Players like English, Webb and Lipinski did not reach five games.

Obviously some changes can be explained by changes in
roles, maturity and people going over the top, but there
are some alarming trends that i am sure will and are
being addressed for this year.

Thanks Yojimbo .
Out of interest, does anyone know what happens with these stats when a player kicks sideways or backwards? Does it count as negative metres even though it may have been an accurate kick to a marking target that helps launch an attack?

Chris Grant, Allan Hopkins and Norm Ware have become legends of our club! That’s big news and congratulations to them. That makes 7 legends. These 7 fellas should adorn the posters hanging down at Etihad. Nothing against the greats that played 300 games, but 300 games is more of a modern thing since the game became more ‘professional’ and champions didn’t have to choose between career and football. The fact that there is a poster of Rowan Smith, and not one of Charlie Sutton clearly shows that the wrong criteria was used.
Chris Grant deserves this, and I’m so thrilled for him. My greatest Bulldog since I’ve been following the club since about ‘78.

From memory, both Hopkins and Ware have a part of the main grandstand at VUWO named after them as well.

This deserves it's own thread.

Thoughts about Bevs speech last night ?
I learned a lot about how dangerous armoured vehicles can be if not seated in the correct position .
A little about Bitcoin and right at the end a little comment about positional changes that will happen this year ......

When I was at uni there was one guy who kicked drop kicks all the time. They were great to mark when we did end to end, don't know if it was the way he kicked them or because drop kicks are generally good to mark. Then when we played our first game in the uni comp I was at CHF and he kicked one from the centre. I went up in a pack and took a speccy. One of the highlights of my career. **

** May not have made the distance from about 30 out but oh well.

I remember watching the Fehring kick - biggest kick I have ever seen.

I can also remember watching Quinlan kicking drop kicks on a Wide World of Sports segment in the early 70's.

I'm pretty sure it just counts for nothing, rather than negative.

Yes it’s a negative count

They discussed it today on SEN
Thanks. Doesn't surprise me but it shows how wary you have to be of stats and what they really mean. You can be following coach's instructions to kick backward for an escape route out of the back 50 - and it may result in your side scoring a goal on the rebound - but that player's "metres gained" will look worse.

I'm a firm believer in the value of stats where they are done sensibly and with no hidden agendas, but they are too often misunderstood and are easily misused. Sometimes intentionally.
