Here is my first two rounds, I put my first round in another thread but seeing it took me so long I thought I owed it to myself to make my own threads :D

I've tried to change some thing up so a lot of people here won't agree but at least it will keep things interesting.

Also I looked at it from both best player and team needs point of view so it is more accurate to how it may pan out in December.

Happy readying to all:thumbsu:

West Coast - Daniel Rich
Watts has already expressed a desire to stay in Melb so he might be a little risky, also they have Notte, Kennedy and Brown who they have to trust will be the future forward line for WC. Rich is just the complete midfielder, local product and a shore thing (or as shore as they can get in a draft).

Melbourne - Jack Watts
Melbourne's has a ok foundation IMO, Defence has Garland, Rivers, Frawley mid had Davey Mclean Morton and Jones. Ruck and KP Fwds are there main problems, Jack is a local boy with heaps of potential where as NickNat has huge upside and marketing ability for a financially struggling club. I think KF are more important than rucks who they will target in a trade or PSD.

Fremantle - Hamish Hartlett
Fremantle need midfielders most importantly, Bell and Carr are out or on their way, and who knows how Haselby will pull up, it really shows this as there greatest weakness with a first year player being their best.

Port Adelaide - Shaun Mckernan
I know they got Lobbe last year but IMO there midfield is fine and Defence ok in Carlise and Chaplin. But Key fwds are in trouble. Ebert is to small and only a leading Fwd, Westoffs have not sold me. Also Mckernan could play ruck which is another issue at PA.

Essendon - Steele Sidebottom
Essendon might surprise everyone with the bottom age player. To much to like about him for me and would of just pipped Ziebell at the line. Esssendon midfield is on the improve but steele needs a few more cogs to the list, look at Geelong, WC, Bris and Syd premiership sides, you need plenty of gun mids

Carlton - Michael Hurley
They got there man here, slid a little and they would be rapt. While the blues have plenty of Key Defenders only one will make the grade as a top line KPD, that is Waite (He is probably already there). Bower and Thornton are in between and Austin, Jamison and O'halplin still need to prove themselves. The beauty is if they do find defenders in these other blokes Hurley and Waite for that matter can go Forward.

Richmond - Jack Ziebell
Richmond steal need some quality midfielders, there almost there and Jack will be a great addition. Defence is covered, rucks are iffy and Forwards are needed but Jack is the best available NickNat was close but no cigar.

Adelaide - Nick Natanui
A lot of people won't agree with me letting him slide this far but the draft is two strong to use a top 5 pick on a player with upside when so many others already have upside showing, You may argue they need a ruck you may not, but I see NickNat as a utility atm, who knows what possie he will ultimately play, Adelaide will be well within their right to take a punt on him.

North - Nick Heyne
Has a lot of tricks and falls into the Embly category, Roos need a midfielder with spark as they will be loosing both Grant and Harvey soon, they have enough work man like midfielders but need some run and carry players who can turn the match on its head, Heyne can do that.

Saints - Jackson Trengove
Although he was injured he is the best option here, while I feel the saints lack a midfielder with pace I think it's more important to find a replacement for Max, not to mention Maguire is in trouble with injuries. I think pacey midfielders will be more available by there second pick compared to great KPD options.

Brisbane - Sam Blease
Might be a bolter of some sorts, I think Brisbane have great KP prospects but are lacking Midfielders. Blease should be a midfielder eventually after probably starting on a flank, Blease has good ball use and run fitting the lions needs.

Collingwood - Nick Suban
Hard pick here between Nick and Tyrone, but do they use two first round picks in two years for ruckman? Burns is getting older as is Johnson and O'bree I feel that if they really needed a silky outside Midfielder they could use Thomas, Didak or Davis more also D!ck might develop into that roll as well. Suban for me is a solid choice and can also do a job down back as a smallish defender which is underrated.

Sydney - Chris Yarran
Some silk is needed for Sydney and Yarren provides that, his a popular pick here but offers Sydney exactly what they need, I have reservations about Chris but at best could be a explosive midfielder with sublime skills and at wost a lazy fwd with flashes of brilliance.

Hawthorn - Matthew Broadbent
Talented tall midfielder with good skill to compliment the workman like midfielders already at the Hawks, If Trengove was available this would be a steal but I think Hawks need another midfielder, Matthew plays outside while being able to get his own ball when he needs to as well as being able to be used in a link up role.

Bulldogs - Lewis Johnstone
For something different im guessing no one will bluff for Cordy and the bulldogs receive a free player here in Johnstone. A key Fwd to compliment Grant while next round they get Cordy more for a ruck who can go fwd. Midfield is fine defence good, maybe a tough player needed as well but a ultra talented KF is on the cards if Cordy isn't forced to be taken with this pick.

Geelong - Aaron Cornelius
No real holes in there side so they will go for best available which I think is Aaron, he might be a genuine KF or might be a third tall but has great hands and loads of talent, will develop and be part of a new look cats fwd line after Mooney and Ottens retire, no to say Ottens is a exclusive fwd atm though.

West Coast- Tyrone Vickery
Cox is hands down the best ruckman in the comp, but a backup is needed. Vickery has the skills to compliment Cox with his ability to go forward, personally I find it hard to see who the first person will be to bite the bullet with Tyrone, WC also looking for a small forward here but won't take the chance of Vickery being picked up by Melbourne.

Melbourne - Mitch Robinson
A beautiful tall running midfielder who will add to the young Melbourne midfield brigade, was very tempted to go for another tall Fwd but decided to go with the tall midfielder, I think the grunt is there but some more class is needed, hence the selection.

West Coast- Neville Jetta
WC get there small fwd here, a local boy who is good around packs giving the eagles there first small pocket specialist in a while. Another box ticked for WC on their way to rebuild, they now have with there first three picks, the best midfielder a ruck/fwd and a small fwd, along with the foundations already there you would say they would have to be happy.

Melbourne - Tim Cahill
Melbourne will take a punt on this kid, no punt required with his ability but it is rumoured (I have no personal inside info) that attitude is a problem. Melbourne have only one young kef fwd really which is Newton who hasn't yet proved that he can hold down either FF or CHF so two KPF in their first three picks addresses this issue as well as a classy midfielder.

Fremantle - Stephen Hill
A lightly framed midfielder who will again reinforce Fremantle's focus on midfielders, a quick player who can break the lines a hit a target, think of Courtney Dempsey, I feel later on they will go for a few KPP to be groomed for the retirements of Mcpharlin and Tarrant.

Port Adelaide - Rhys O'keefe
A few might be surprised with this selection but I see Rhys in the Griffen mould, a running Half back flanker who breaks the lines, I think with a Fwd/ruck with their first pick a Running defender who could turn midfielder will fit in nicely, another tall here like Roughead and Lisle could of been the way to go but I like the local boy Rhys with his dash to add to the Power list

Essendon - Jordon Lisle
Really tossing up between roughead and Lisle here, the ruckman fwd or the defender? I went with Lisle because Essendon really need to find someone to take over for Michael and Fletcher. Johns and Lee didn't cut it and Hooker is very raw, with a midfielder taken first a big backman will slot in nicely here.

Carlton - Tom Lynch
Think of Matthew Bate! A medium lead up forward who can play that third tall forward role, midfield is sent another superb young KB added with the first pick. Still don't know if I made the right choice maybe could have gone with a KPF over a third tall, but I still think Tom will suit the blues.

Richmond - Jordon Roughead
Ruck/fwd is a perfect fit for the tigers. Pattison is struggling Simmons is doing it by himself so Roughead will fit in like a glove adding to the ever impressive Richmond young midfield.

Adelaide - Ryan Schoenmakers
They have two giants in Sellar and Tippet so Ryan should fit in nicely and the third tall type, same possie as Walker maybe, the local boy has a bit of freakish ability and could for part of a young top line fwd line. Also wondering maybe another big fwd with Sellar not cementing himself as a AFL player yet and Tippet might be lured to GC, but there is no tall fwds I see worthy of taking the punt on.

North - Tom Swift
A steal right here people, Swift who has been injured has a big question mark over his knees but if they hold true he will be a jem. Midfielder with class, added here while I think a skilful flanker could of been pick or a big bodied backman I feel the risk is worthy here. Swift could ultimately play out to be a Selwood or a Muston.

Saints - Michael Walters
A perfect fit a small fwd/midfielder with speed. The one think that Saints desperately need. Walters will start as a pressure applying crumbing forward who may become a midfielder, but adds speed to a sometime one paced Saints outfit.

Brisbane - Matthew Debour
A ball magnet midfielder will be added to the Lions with the pacy line breaker used for their first pick. Matthew has question marks over his foot skills but seems to get it plenty of times, quality talls aren’t thick and fast now but there still is some quality mids one being this man.

Collingwood - Steve Browne
A good solid ruckman needed with this pick, they get one here in Browne. A solid player who can use his body in the ruck while wood will be the mobility ruckman around the ground, Could of opted for Tyrone first pick but Browne is a solid competitor who in a couple of years could be 2nd ruck to Wood.

Sydney – Tom Rockliff
A smart forward who plays as a medium size goal kicker. A flanker FP who will add some goal kicking power into the swans fwd line. With Rockliff and Yarren that’s a huge amount of class injected into the Swans forward line with their first two picks.

Hawthorn – David Zaharakis
Another silky midfielder who will be too good to pass on at this stage, a run and carry player adding to Broadbent. Showed in the championships that he can carry the ball and still deliver a top line pass to the forwards, if he can do this at Hawthorn then Roughead and Franklin will be licking their lips.

Bulldogs – Ayce Cordy
Probably won’t last here but draft is to deep for clubs to make bluffs they won’t want to call. Cordy is ruckman fwd who will take time to develop but with a few years left in Hudson Welsh and Johnson they have plenty of time to let this skinny fwd Ruck/fwd.

Geelong - Kade Carey
One out of the hat here. 24 years old huge Forward who played in the EDFL this year. Had some issues when he was younger and has matured now though. Just signed with Geelong VFL to play finals with them if they make it. Ready made player who kicked 10 goals in a combined match this year. Seriously wouldn’t surprise me if he was picked up but probably not this early, seeing this is how far my phantom draft goes I decided to chuck him in.

Suban and Browne for Collingwood. I would be happy with that:thumbsu:

One pick I think you got right is Neville Jetta. I expect him to go around there and I can definitely see him being a target for West Coast. Hopefully, if we pick him, he can become the player that Sampi was meant to be.

That's a good read :thumbsu:

But for some reason I would feel a little empty if the draft went like that for West Coast.

Personally I'd be more pleased with Rich, Robinson and Walters/Swift. That would still work with your order and we'd get more a midfield punch.

Another ruckman would just mean we shit off Mark Seaby a little more. I don't really want Vickery even though he sounds like a great talent.

ood effort although i would rather Swift then Vickery as we got sullivan coming through the ranks atm. and i would like Walters instead of Jetta.

Swift is WAY too low. If availiable at Essendon's 2nd pick I expect us to take him. But I can see him going late 1st round, at worst a PP range to WC or Melbourne. Essendon's picks are just awful. Naituai will go to Freo at no3. Hartlett will go to Essendon or Port (Hurley will go to the other one). If we don't get Hartlett, Ziebell is a better fit to us than Sidebottom. Sorry just do not agree with any of Essendon's picks in this phantom draft. Good try though.

Lol, how many midfielders do you want? Kerr, Masten, Priddis, Butler, McNamara + Rich

If we take Rich we will have more than enough midfielders. We need a genuine goalsneak and we haven't looked as dangerous up forward since matera and sampi were up and going.

Good effort!!!
I doubt NicNat will last that long, but I'm happy with Ziebell.
Roughead for mine looks just a tap ruckman, which i dont like that much, but he could prove me wrong.
I also doubt DeBoer, Suban and Walters will last that long, but their always is players who slide down further than expected.

Great work!

trengove won't last that long, trust me recruiters won't care about his knee he will go around 6 or 7, i don't think mckernan will go that early either, west coast may grab watts, there forward line aint sharp, i think the big guys will go early and i still think this is a midfielders draft so there will still be quality in the midfield right down to the end

Brisbane currently have too many young guys who can run but can't kick. It has been a major problem over the last couple of years. I love Blease because he will address this but hate Deboer because I think he will exacerbate the situation. He deserves to go around there but I would be disappointed if we took him because I do not think he makes us better.

don't think west coast would pick vickery or jetta over hill, swift or deboer

Agree about Vickery but disagree about Jetta. I think he will be in the mix for the late 1st round/PP area. Exciting, small forward with a bit of toe who can kick goals. Prototype FP who is exactly what we need.

Nice read. Since you are drafting for needs in a lot of cases, I would
have to disagree with sydney and hawks selections.
Sydney could use a classy small forward and mid, but they are desperate
to replace Leo at FB, Hall at FF and Spida in the ruck.
Hawks could use the ball carriers you picked but first priority is a KP
back.
Good writeup on the players. Like many others, can't see NickNat
dropping that much.

You mean Andrew Browne from Murray?

I think Carlton would be a little pissed if we tried to draft Steven Browne...

In fact, I'd be a little pissed if we passed up Zaharakis in the late second - But you never know how these things go.

Good to see a couple of nice and unique phantoms popping up now. Good read mate. :)

I'm presuming the above should be Paul Cahill though?

Great read now just need to hope young Ayce slips through Id be ecstatic with both Lewis and Ayce
