The problem is he is best suited to the number 4/5 positions and who do you take out of the current side to accommodate that? Clarke and Bailey are well established and Maxwell is a good pick to finish the innings.

smith isnt a 3 or 4, he is crap against a moving ball. he is a number 5 or 6 at best

Smith is a fair distance away from an ODI game. Our middle order is strong, from 3-6 so he is no chance of getting any of those spots from the current players. Marsh is clearly viewed, rightly or wrongly as the next best top 3 bat. If a spot opens up from 4-6, Voges will get the gig.

Spot on. We used Smith in the team in the past batting at 7 and he was wasted. He is a 4 or 5 IMO and we already to quality options in those positions.

I think Mitch Marsh was the all rounder that should have replaced Watson but I get the feeling the selection was made because the Scorchers are a chance of BBL finals while the Heat are not. Plus Christian has been in good form

Would probably have preffered the highly rated Mitch Marsh or lets go outside the thinking and pick Brad Hodge who can also bowl you 4 - 8 useful off spinning overs.

One thing that is starting to get to me is the bloody scheduling of everything. Using BBL form as a guide for selection in the ODI limited overs team is completely misguided.

Lets rush in Dan Christian on the back of him bowling 10 overs in 3 weeks of BBL. I get he is in good form with the bat, but from the article on Cricinfo, Lehman suggests that Christian is bowling well hence his selction in the ODI line up.

The sooner Cricket Australia get there S*** together and organise the scheduling so state format overlaps international formats the better.
