Do you mean club by club, or as a whole?

Pretty safe to say as whole:

1: vic
2: rest

I personally don't feel like doing this task, perhaps if people did their own club and listed the numbers each have*, it would make things easier.

*Set a condition, e.g. which state they rep. or where they were born.

I did this measure some years ago, but its probably changed.

Vic worked out to about 50%
SA to about 20%
WA to about 20%
Others to 10%

I think that WA has shrunk and `others' have increased since then though.

I did it as which state they were playing in when drafted.

Fremantle

Including rookies:

WA: 28/44 = 63.7%

Vic: 10/44 = 22.7%

SA: 6/44: 13.6%

Excluding rookies:

WA: 26/39 = 66.7%

Vic: 9/39 = 23.1%

SA: 4/39 = 10.2%

And people say Fremantle don't support WA talent.

Yak doesn't qualify as a person.

I am surprised by Porthos' figures, I would have thought SA would have had significant more representation than WA.

Overall, not club by club.

Yeah, but somebody might have a % figure.

This topic came to me when I read last week that 44% of NRL players come from Queensland.

I personally don't feel like doing this task, perhaps if people did their own club and listed the numbers each have*, it would make things easier.

*Set a condition, e.g. which state they rep. or where they were born.
Don't do a club by club, but you could be right about what criteria to use to determine where a player comes from. Is it where they were born? Is it where they played their first senior football as in RL? Was there a 2nd shooter?

I suspect you're probably spot on there.

What I was getting at, is if we get 16 people to do it, it kills 2 birds one stone if required later, and makes it easier as not one person is burden with doing it all. After everyone has done their bit, add the totals together.

To make it interesting, it should be No of players from State divided by population.

Nice work Porthos.

So WA and SA supply more than shar of quota to other states!

Maybe regional zoning with conscessions to Brisbane and Sydney would work.

Yeah, thats without rookies.

This is your percentage chance of being able to play AFL football in your home state, derived from where players currently are.

Victorians - 78.2%
Western Australians - 50.5%
South Australians - 41.7%
Queenslanders - 40.9%
NSW/ACT - 35.7%
Others - 0.00%

Using 2003-2004 figures from the ABS

Vic.......51.4%...(321/625)...8.2 squads 4,962,040
SA........18.4%...(115/625)...3 squads 1,533,181
WA........16.2%...(101/625)...2.6 squads 1,975,784
NSW/ACT...4.5%....(28/625)....0.8 squads 6,719,810 + 323,886

We thus have

Shouldn't Ireland be 3/625?

Kennelly and the O'hAilpin brothers?

I didn't include rookies in this assessment.

Good work there, but not necessarily because the dreaded draft largely shunts players all over the shop. In other words, the real chance of staying in your home state is far less than those figures.
