disappointed with that.

Ok they have dropped Maric, no real suprise, but include Stevens? Im sure he wont play but why even bother?

I expect Burton and Roo to be the only ones who will play.

And Knights or Skipworth to play if Bode (concussion) doesn’t come up

It is absolutely pointless to include Scott Stevens, and it’s actually pretty annoying. Drop a youngster with enormous potential, and include Stevens in the squad despite the fact he won't play.

Disappointed about Maric being dropped but its not unexpected. I reckon Roo and especially The Birdman will play like men possessed this week.

Biglands was playing forward last week, not as a ruckman. Don't think Craigy wants 3 rucks in the team (and rightly so) and with Roo and Burton back the forward line doesn't need Biglands as much.

I can only assume that the preference is to play Stevens rather than using Biglands as a KPP if needed. Given my doubts over Kenny's fitness this year, we are running out of backup KPP's!

I doubt Bode will play, so will be interesting who comes in. He has probably taken Skippy's spot, so that would be the obvious choice ... but it would be good to see Knights get another go.

Craig's a pr1ck??? Never heard that before.

Anyhoo.. I think some of us are getting a little precious over player selection at times. Sure Stevens last effort was soft. No argument here. Probably none from the club either. But day in day out these guys know how players are travelling, where their head is at etc far better than most of us. I would say thats true at most clubs let alone Adelaide at the moment where we are handling ourselves so professionally its setting a benchmark for the competition to follow.

Well said :thumbsu: its fine for supporters to have their say (geez the day at the trading desk would be slow otherwise) but Craigy knows best. Seriously. No sane man can question this

Give Stevens a chance. I've seen the guy do some good things, he's not THAT bad. I mean, his first game back from not playing in a year and you can't expect the guy to set the world on fire.

Look at Doughty, how often is the guy maligned... yet he's done some amazing team things (goal-line smother anyone?). And Bode... totally trashed on this board last year, DESPITE the fact that he almost single-handedly won the Collingwood game for us by flat-out refusing to let it slip away.

Give the guy a couple more chances before we write him off completely.

The naming of any player as an emergency is a reward for their efforts in the SANFL. Whether they play is purely a list management thing.
Unless there is a suspect injury, doubt he will play.

A player who is completely ignored by his AFL club and left to fade into the background in the SANFL, has no value on the trade table. A player who is constantly knocking on the AFL door, being named as an emergency week after week may be seen as a little hard done by and of some value at the trade table.

Perhaps?? Perhaps not??

In any case, I cant see Stevens getting a game, even if a KPP doesnt come up. I think we would be better off going back to Maric as 2nd. ruck and Biglands as a KPP in that case. So there must be some other point in naming him in the squad IMO.

Magpies

In: Thomas, DePasquale, Ebert, King, Maric
Out: Kingsley, Surjan, Stevens, Jenner, Fitzgerald

Stevens really isnt as bad as everyone is making out. Kicked a pretty good goal and gave off another in the game he played. Takes a bit to adjust to the tempo of AFL from SANFL, especially considering he hasnt played AFL for like over a year. Sure it wasnt a performance to write home about, but its not like it was a mistake riddled game that you might expect from the 'J' man.
If he played a few weeks in a row (not suggesting this will happen, or is even necessary ) im sure he would pick up, and be a handy player.

I think Stevens will come in for Bode.

We need an extra tall defender this week at the Telstra Done.

People are forgetting that Kangaroos will have Rocca, Thompson and a resting ruckman as their tall forward. Thats some serious size there and I suspect that McGregor will go to CHB this week and Stevens and Hentschel will be talls in our forward line.

If Stevens doesn't come in we are under-sized. Thats why I would have kept Maric in the side and played Biglands as a tall forward and Maric as a back up ruckman. Craigy knows better so I will go with what ever he decides.

Wouldn't have thought Craig would have given it away this early?!

I hope if he plays, he will prove some of us wrong.

He might relish the chance to play up there with Roo.
