Would have rather seen selections without being forced.Does this mean that Webster, browne etc...(other midfielders) are on borrowed time. Will mayne play forward or wing?

Good luck to you too. But reading the Hawthorn site, your brethren think you've won it already.
I hope your team is the same.
I am stoked to see these kids in there, at least one of them is going to be a showstopper. It takes me back 3/4 years !!

I too can be quoted as saying the hawks will win.

But footy would be boring if it were that predictable.

I think a lot of hawks assume that Brown has Pav covered. He has to work hard to prove it wasn't a once-off last season.

Can't wait for the game!

I think they were already on borrowed time anyway. I don't know how fit Browne is yet, he missed a fair part of the pre-season with a foot injury. Players like Mayne, Ibbotson and Palmer need to move ahead of these guys to take the club forward.

Really looking forward to the hearing what Walls & Co will have to say about us after this weekend if 2 of the 3 can get 20+ decent touches each. Would make a lot of people on this board.

Nockers didn't have much of a preseason due to injury. He's such an important player to our future that I think Harves is wary of exposing him to the rigours of AFL while he is still underdone. I'd expect him to be back in the team once he gets his match fitness up.

That's my take on it anyway.

I agree with that. Nockers will be out there very soon this season. No need to send him out a little underdone, especially when we've all seen his what is his best, thus far in his career.

Yep, you don't want to do a Carlton and be forced to play these kids, which effectively takes them backwards in their development when they are pummelled at AFL level. You've got to take them on an individual basis, if they are physically built to take it, have the protection around them or the footy smarts to stay away from too many beatings.

That said, Palmer and Mayne are solid enough to absorb some contests, just not hammered all year.

Anyway, good luck to Palmer and Mayne in particular and hopefully Ibbo can keep improving.

im stunned at how many of u guys r calling for peake/crowley to be dropped /replaced by these young guys ,dont get me wrong im as happy with these ins as all of u just didn't think their forms been that bad and it would be interesting to see how they go with a faster more youthful, hungrier mix of midfeilders alongside of them

!

This is another example of over-simplifying.............people look too simply at key forward vs key back match-ups, and go to the extent of if the forward doesn't score goals then the defender wins. This is not always the case. The delivery of the ball into a key forward is crucial, and pav is nearly unbeatable imo given adequate quality delivery (as is Brown, and as will Buddy be pretty soon if not already) but when a key forward has to deal with double and triple teaming (as Pav does week in/week out) and the midfield brigade is unable to hit the sweet spot for them then it becomes very hard. People were talking it up on the weekend about how young Brown from collingwood towelled up Pav..........rubbish, have a look at the game and check the delivery, what the pies where doing is double teaming Pav on the ground as well as constantly dropping their spare defender into the hole in front of him meaning that the delivery had to be precise and as we were unable to do that we made life extremely difficult for him. This is not to say that Campbell Brown isn't an awsome player.....i think he is, but it's just not as simple as people make out.

Let me point out that I was restricted to 'observation by radio' of that particular game - so I'll take your word on what happened if you saw the game.

I didn't see the Freo game last week - but did think it very strange that Pav could be 'slaughtered' by a first gamer. That would require: 1) the kid to be the greatest player of all time in his first game (collingwood perspective) 2) Pav having a broken leg (independent cynic perspective) or 3) very poor supply (Fremantle supporter perspective).

He is not even an emergency in the WAFL, so it seems he may have a bit of calf strain. Who knows?

I don't think people have been "calling for his head", I just think most believe he is past it and on the list to fill up the void for any injuries etc. So there was a big surprise to see him in the team for round one. I expected he would play at the most 5 games this year.

Yep, the only problem I saw with Creepy last week was he was trying to do a bit to much when he had the ball. I think we'll see good improvement over the next 2-3 games, knowing when to dish it off and when to create.:thumbsu:
