Write to the hawthorn hfc

Ask for transparency in rules and basis of rejection

It’s happened twice to hawthorn

Ask for all other clubs grounds for approval for nga prospects

If there is no transparency and clear consistency ask board to take afl to court or we as a member base will take class action against afl for discrimination

We are 90 k members …If 50k do a class action then we will also challenge afl draft system as restraint of trade

No point complaining ..take action and you ll see how the afl quickly change their tune

We can also look at afl distributions of $$ to clubs over the last 25 years and take that matter to court as we are at the bottom with that as well

Google wasn’t that helpful for an official AFL stated criteria. But here’s what Essendon have on their website. Note the and/OR. So as far as they’re concerned it’s enough to identify as Aboriginal and be in the zone.

1. Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander

and/or

2. The player meets AFL NGA Culturally Diverse criteria, by a player or at least one parent born from an African, Asian or Oceania (E.g. Cook Islands) country. Eligibility is also granted if a player and/or both parents are born in a non-English speaking country (Not Asia, Africa or Oceania).

3. Live in Essendon's Next Generation Academy Zone?

Not sure about the reason here because he ticks every box Cody Anderson did.

He has an Indigenous background which means he qualifies.

He’s in our zone.

We’ve been working with him for 12+ months so it isn’t like we’re trying to add a good player completely last minute.

North were approved for Sanders in their Academy despite having little to do with his footballing (they couldn’t match before 40 but he was still approved).

With no reason provided, it does feel like the AFL simply doesn’t want a top prospect going to Hawhorn.

Tough to swallow when a consistent top side for the past [emoji638][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]] years (Sydney) literally have [emoji640]/[emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]]th's of their best players and captain made up of former academy kids.

Ah yes, that academy prospect Blakey who came from nowhere and had never heard of footy until the mighty Swans showed him the light..

I didn’t get excited as I half expected the AFL to weasel out of it, but I’d expect an explanation at least?

Hawks should pursue to clarify why he didn't meet the criteria, AFL runs the game but also need to follow their own framework around governance. So if they can't provide transparency then the current administrators aren't fit to govern the sport.

What are you gonna say? They'll just reiterate their secret sauce says no this time

No I don't think anyone knows, not even Hawthorn. But clearly he didn't meet the criteria, otherwise he'd be in their academy
Right. So your original post that was clearly insinuating that this ignorance of the criteria was just an issue “around here” was just a troll then. Run along.

Settle. Just saying a lot of Hawks fans were adamant the AFL had no option but to approve, as if they knew the criteria.

People were confident based on the commonly understood criteria (like what is on Essendon’s website) and the players who have recently been approved.

Short of the AFL actually being transparent with their rules then it was a pretty solid basis.
