Would’ve been massive for the Club and the Competition if he joined them at Birallee Park

Not sure massive! Is it a given that with Mathieson you get larger crowds,bigger gate takings,increased bar sales,more at Thursday night training and dinners.And more importantly does he put your club in a position to contend?Ex AFL players command big money(and he is no exception as we talked to him) but is it worth paying to finish middle of the road or even lower? Great pick up for Grange who were 2023 prelim finalists and now I’d say a serious contender! All these things important to weigh up!

I'd think most look for other things than just cash, good employment, lifestyle (look at yarra, Echuca, barwon heads etc) compared to Maryborough or even wodonga

Leslie’s best trait was his loyalty, something modern players don’t have. I’m telling you now, nothing tastes as sweet as a victory with a bunch of men who’ve struggled through dark times together, the piss is sweeter the song is louder and the friendships are stronger. There was a bunch of blokes I trained in the 90s, they would’ve jumper in front of stray lead for one another, dirty money dangling, not one of them tempted, and each one has three medallions tucked in the dresser, that’s what football is all about.

Raiders were one of about 10 clubs chatting with him. Ellis Yolemen and Mathieson alone would’ve chewed up the entire cap, and from afar it appears the Raiders don’t have any loose change.

Rumours are Mathieson was asking a enormous amount of money ,,,some reports are like 50k

well one report was 80k !!!
Do you really think that sort of money is paid at our levels of footy because a player has just come out of the AFL ?
Providing employment yes , but then pay 40k, 50k 60k etc on top of that ,, for 1 player ,,, no wonder clubs are going down the gurgler if that is happening

I don’t understand how big money to a few blow ins doesn’t upset the loyal locals in the side. How Rovers survived Prime Time was amazing. He was injured, went overseas for a few weeks and then came back straight into the senior side. Talk about special treatment.
