EM: A.Mackie ~ K.Tenace ~ M.Blake

Note:
  • Kelly will get traded
  • Hawkins to debut approx Round 5-7

This is how I would have it:

FB:Egan~Scarlett~D.Johnson
HB:Milburn~Harley~Hunt
C:Enright~Bartel~Wojincski
HF:N.Ablett~Mooney~Chapman
FF:Stokes~Ottens~S.Johnson
R: King~Corey~G.Ablett

INT: Prismall~Rooke(tagging option)~Hawkins~Varcoe/Gamble/1st round draft
EMG: Byrnes,Tenace,Grima,ling(slow but maybe 2nd tagging option),playfair(backup kpp),blake/west

(I have assumed mackie was traded?)

Good rotations and flexibility I think.

King rests on bench then Ottens into ruck and Hawkins goes forward
If tall backman struggling then mooney to backlines, nablett to chb and varcoe/gamble or hawkins on
small backman struggling rooke or one of the corey's into backline
Forwards struggling then hawkins varcoe/gamble or gablett can go forward
on ball rotations would include corey, gablett, prismall, rooke, chapman and maybe even mooney at beginning of some quarters (eg finals 2005). (varcoe,gamble,byrnes,tenace,woj,enright,1st rnd draft can all go in there as well when playing)
Hawkins on bench as no need to put pressure on him by starting him every game (he may be rested for playfair depending on how he is performing)

** not sure if missed anyone

If after pre-season Hawkins looks like he could have a decent impact in games, it may be worthwhile to nurture him through the first 10 rounds of the season. So often kids in their first year burn out by round 10-12. This way he could have impact when it matters, the latter end of the season.

some of you guys have dropped lingy completely:eek:
sif we should do that. he seems like one of the only players with leadership qualities.

FB J Hunt Scarlett Harley
HB Wojac Egan Milburn
C Enright Bartel Rooke
HF Gamble Mooney Chapman
FF SJ Nablett Stokes
Foll Ottens Corey Gablett
Int Ling Prismall King Hawkins
Emerg Callan D.Johnson Blake
Interchangeable with 1st round pick/ varcoe
Could be swapped around

geelong needs to demand more from its key players because this will follow through to the young blokes like prismall varcoe etc to perform above average.

Having a look at the size of TomH , do we really think we will be able to play him beside Ottens? Nathan also deserves to have a chance at CHF , without being crowded , add the Big hairy one and Nathan and Tom and Ottens struth we are getting big and slow.

FB:Milburn*Scarlett*Hunt
HB:Mackie*Egan*Rooke
C:Prismall*Bartel*Wojincski
HF:G.Ablett*N.Ablett*Chapman
FF:Stokes*Ottens*S.Johnson
R: King*Corey*Mooney

INT: Enright/Harley , Tenace/Byrnes , Hawkins/Blake , Ling/Playfair

Look at any list when no form is taken into account and its difficult but for mine Prismall has to now be in our best 22 , Mooney to be played on the ball ( run him till he drops , he will be too tired to do silly things). Plenty of speed and smarts at the feet of Ottens and Nathan. In the backline , the toughness of Rooke and Milburn , the kicking ability of Mackie and Hunt.

Things can change with trades of course.

Has everybody written off Kelly?

I'd start him in the middle as i feel he is our number 2 clearance player behind Bartel, but I havn't seen him in many other sides.

I've also noticed not many included Spencer, I'm quite surprised. How's he gonna get those 500 games from the VFL? Even you left him out hoff.;)

FB: Harley Scarlett D.Johnson
HB: Milburn Egan Rooke
C: Enright Bartel Mackie
HF Chapman Mooney N.Ablett
FF S.Johnson Hawkins Stokes

Followers: Ottens, G.Ablett, Corey
Int: J.Hunt, King, Ling, Prismall
Emg: Blake, Gamble, Tenace, Byrnes

* N.Ablett to get at least 6 straight games at HF in 07
* Hunt used as an onballer similar to against St Kilda. Needs a bigger engine developed over preseason.
* Scarlett to kick out and Rooke to be used as playmaker out of backline
* Hawkins to play FF when Ottens in ruck
* Mooney mostly at CHF but can spend time on ball

Would like a player like Lovett-Murray to free up Rooke
Would like to trade Kelly for a ball carrier
Would like someone better than D.Johnson in the back pocket
Varcoe looks like he needs another year
Hawkins to rested for two games in a row two to three times

Point 1 - Cameron Ling will not be dropped - I garuntee 100% he will play every senior game if fit.

Point 2 - King and Blake will not rotate as the backup ruckman - King is so far ahead of Blake its not even close!
Does everyone forget that after extensive surgery, Kingy was being pushed around in a wheelchair for much of the pre-christmas period ? Give him a break, King with a bullet in him is still better than a fully fit Blake!

yup. he isn't in the top 3 midfielders we have anymore I rate corey, bartel, enright, chapman, ablett.jr,rooke all higher than him for different reasons. The main thing Ling has going for him is he gets a lot of the ball but I found myself more and more frustrated with his disposal, not sure if it is because the game is getting too fast for him but more often he seems to be banging it over his shoulder straight down the line to an opposition player and we get hurt on the rebound. His only value I seen now is as a defensive onballer but even then rooke is better than him at this nowdays. We could play him forward because he is a reasonable mark and good set shot but then we have stokes, s.johnson, p.chapman, g.ablett to rotate through there not to mention the possibility of varcoe, gamble etc aswell.

basically I think he has peaked and isn't going to get any better as a midfielder so it is time to start blooding the younger guys and see if they cant become premier midfielders we need to find some run and clearance winners.

B: D.Johnson - Scarlett - Egan
HB: Milburn - Harley - Hunt
C: Enright - Corey - Rooke
HF: Chapman - Mooney - N.Ablett
F: S.Johnson - Ottens - G.Ablett

R: King - Bartel - Ling

Int: Gamble - Stokes - Prismall - Wojcinski

Emerg: Callan - Tenace - Blake - Byrnes

* I'd like to see Hunt play ocassionally as an attacking winger while Rooke can drop back into defence.
* Ling to rotate with either Chapman or Ablett or both, so he plays as a forward. Ling is a terrific mark and has a lovely set shot.
* Milburn to have role across half forward from time to time while Rooke falls into defence and Gazza or Chappy move up into the midfield.

B: Egan / Scarlett / J.Hunt
HB: Rooke / Harley / Milburn
C: Enright / Bartel / G.Ablett
HF: N.Ablett / Mooney / Chapman
F: S.Johnson / Ottens / Stokes
R: King / Corey / Ling

INT: Prismall / Kelly / Mackie / D.Johnson

Emg: Gamble or other up and comer / Wojcinski or other mid / Playfair or other backup KPP

This is only with the current list. In not considering trades, delistments or draftees.

David Johnson clearly not appreciated by too many people. He's obviously the most underrated at the club.

My priorities are:

1. Prismall on the ball
2. Stokes on the ground whether it be forward, back or on the ball
3. Nathan Ablett at half forward
4. 6-10 games for Tom Hawkins
5. Blake to play close to every game

The rest pick themselves.

I rate him as he is courageous and doesn't mind backing into a hole to take a mark. v.reliable player which is what we want down back.

B: D. Johnson Scarlett Hunt
HB: Milburn Harley Egan
C: Mackie Corey Rooke
HF: Chapman Mooney G. Ablett
F: S. Johnson Ottens Stokes
R: King Bartel Ling

Int: N. Ablett, Enright, Callan, Prismall

Thoughts:

- Chapman and Ablett push up into the midfield, with Stokes rotating with them. Dog as the permanent small forward.

- Ottens and King rotating through the ruck, with Nathan playing at FF or CHF (see below)

- Milburn and Mooney to be used as general utilities, with Callan (or Nath in the case of Mooney at CHF) filling the hole.

- In addition, Callan, Ling and Egan should all be considered (depending on the situation) for a stint down forward, Ling in particular. If Ling is getting towelled in the midfield, put Stokes in his place permanently and keep Ling up forward - it's where he played his junior footy and he's shown he can take a good overhead mark.

- Ling, Rooke and D.Johnson as the taggers, in that order. I'd be tempted to see Ling's role as a tagger or forward: if, for whatever reason, Rooke gets first tag (as he would on say Goodes) and Ling is being wasted tagging a 2nd-rate midfielder, put him up forward.

- Enright to play as a midfielder, with Callan the rotation on the back flank.
