Now this is presuming they are fully fit and in good form. A few players have pushed their way into our best 22 this year.

Firstly I think Dodd has cemented his place in the team. Has done some excellent run with roles. Today was no exception. He ran with Ling and did a great job. Against the Eagles he nullified Embley. A player who has definately stepped up this year and done a great job since being promoted from the rookie list.

Someone who i didn't expect to play much senior footy this year is David Mundy. What a revelation in defence he has been. Someone who in the past 6 weeks has pushed his way into the top 22.

Similarly Michael Johnson has come from nowhere to play a role in the team. He's been solid in defence against the resting ruckman and has done a bit of work in the ruck from time to time. Though he was dropped from the team a couple weeks ago he did exceptionally well against Ottens today and has cemented his spot against the taller sides in the competition. Someone who is probably sitting 22nd at the moment and is a possible ommission depending on matchups.

James Walker has reinvented himself this year as a small defender and he's doing a great job. Someone i thought wouldn't get 22 games this year because of the inclusion of Black, Schofield and Carr. He's proven his worth to the team.

My 22 (arguments welcome)

F: Farmer McPharlin Medhurst
HF: Schofield Pavlich M.Carr
C: Black J.Carr Cook
HB: Dodd Polak Thornton
B: Walker Parker Johnson

R: JLo Hasleby Bell

Int: Sandilands (wow he played forward today and did some damage)
Mundy
Schammer
Headland

Shock omission is Haddrill. We have so many tall defensive options. Johnson is better at taking the resting ruckman than Haddrill. And Parker seems to be doing a reasonable job against the FF's of the comp.

The emergencies would be Grover, Haddrill and Murphy. I feel bad leaving any of these 3 out but only 22 can take the field. Also Hayden should crack a mention as he was excellent in 2003. But it just seems so far away.

To have a successful season you need a best 27-28.

Then you can select the team on Matchups. This would mean that for example Johnson (very couragous decision today that came up trumps) would get the job on Ottens but Hadrill the job on Fevola.

We didn't have that in 2003 but were incredibly lucky with injuries and were not as fortunate in 2004.

Your absolutely right. Its never a perfect world. Some players will be out of form, some will have injuries. And some players will be omitted for matchups sake. But it's damn hard to pick our best 22, because we finally have some depth. Which is great.

PS Sandilands did great today. The first time this year i was convinced that he and Longmuir could play successfully in the same 22.

Something which we have never had. Good to see that the dropped players did so well today also.

Never in doubt. Both excellent. :)

We have one of the best ruck pairings in the league going forward.
And M.J. (Geez he has come on) did some good work 3rd man up a couple of times.
:)

The reason i doubted the pair would do well. Is that both need to be able to play forward when the other is in the ruck. No point taking up 2 positions in the 22 for just the ruck.

Sandilands today in his short stint up forward was just as successful if not more successful than Longmuir up forward. Longmuir in the forward line has failed to inspire me the last couple games. His best position is definately in the ruck. As is Sandilands. Though for the first time ever Sandilands convinced me he would be valuable up forward. Possibly more valuable than Longmuir in the forward line eventually.

I always had faith that Sandilands would come good. His potential is unbelievable. Especially with the rule that you can't chop arms as a defender. Most players won't be able to spoil him given his height.

Haddrill has to be in there, probably for Johnson. Prior to todays game I had concerns about Johnson as a defender, but he was vey good against the cats. Schofield, while much better today than last week, hasn't consolidated his spot. The rest looks spot on.
