Geelong: Loss to Fremantle. Loss to Carlton. (Looking pretty broken down with many queries over the health and durability of many of their important senior players)

St Kilda: No Riewoldt. Loss to Port Adelaide. (No Riewoldt seems to = not much scoring as shown against Port Adelaide with their poor 44 point display. Their defence is still rock solid but against the best teams can they expect to kick winning scores?)

Western Bull Dogs: 3-2 not exactly a flying start to a season for the premiership favorite even if the 2 losses were against quality opposition! (Should probably be playing more dominantly than they are. Have played solidly without being outstanding so far. Very much a beatable side, but still strong)

Brisbane: Were probably looking like the best team so far this season until their 50 point loss to Melbourne (Will be a tough team to beat without a doubt and are probably the only team listed here who has probably exceeded expectation with a nice win over the Western Bull Dogs. But inconsistent efforts could hurt them if they play as poorly as they did against Melbourne!)

Hawthorn: 1-4. Not the best start.. (Will probably be a top 8 side, but not much more)

Adelaide: 0-5, not even thinking about a top 8 finish.. (Just too many injuries to be competitive. A hard preseason has really hurt them and it is showing)

Then Collingwood. Looking strong at 4-1. No major injuries thus far. Well ahead of where many teams placed us to be at this point in time with good wins against the Western Bull Dogs, Hawthorn and Essendon who always in the past have proven to be tough teams to beat. With our only loss being to St Kilda thus far shows that we are in quite a good position at this early stage. Much better start than this time last year!

With all these top teams under-performing it shows how much the competition has widened this season. This year might well be the year we break the premiership drought.

Yep. Now we're a game ahead of Geelong and the Saints have been brought back to 4-1 as well, we're in a great position. Need to capitalise on it now. Might be tougher than first thought seeing how Carlton played against Geelong, but we're a better team for sure, it's a should win game.

I think come September the Cats, Dogs and Saints will all be firing. We just need to be also.

Don't rate the rest of the comp as threats.

I don't think that much has changed, except that Adelaide now suck.

Saints, Cats and Dogs are still the teams to measure ourselves against.

Freo and Sydney are the "new boys" on the block.

To me, they are genuine contenders, as long as they can keep their sides fit for the whole year.

I think the one advantage we have is depth, with very few sides having "real depth" to cover a number of positions.

MM is being smart also, rotating some of the older players in and out of the side, because come September, whoever is left will play, because all sides get injuries, it's just a matter of how many and who.

I can still see the Dogs, Cats and Pies fighting it out on prelim weekend, but as to who the 4th side will be, that's anyone's guess.

Carlton seem to have our old inconsistent bug.

Their best can beat Geelong, and their worst can lose to Essendon.

Let's just hope we're on top of our game, and not ahead of our game this week.

As for the rest, an accurate assessment. Yet, somehow I think the Collingwood haters in our football world still seem to write us off ... fine by me.

Errr, the Saints have only lost one game, and Riewoldt will be back.

Great Start 4-1, Could of been 3-2 or 5-0 but we are Equal Top and 3rd on %.

So I think we are in a Strong Postion and We can beat any side in the Comp

I'm going on the premise that the "real" Riewoldt won't be back this year.

It is such an extreme injury that has occurred, that some medical experts have said there is no way you can return to your best physical form within the same season.

Without Riewoldt, StKilda aren't top 4 material, and may lose enough games before he returns to miss top 4 anyway.

They could be that 4th team, but I wouldn't be putting money on them.

As seen from the way Melb pushed us (BTW, that win we had is looking better and better all the time!!) and the number of upsets this year, we should not take any game for granted.

However, you do get the feeling, if we bring our best game along, this year we can probably beat anybody.

Saints and Geelong may just be coming back to the field a bit.

I think also, we may be able to cover injury as well as anyone.

(Also important, we seem to be getting an OK run from the umpires this year, compared to last few...anyone else noticed this or am i becoming a tree hugger)

Very exciting to have three yound KPPs in the team and do so well, really allows us to rest and rotate players, not have to carry injured players etc

All of which makes the Pies pretty competitive this year.
