I never heard any tales about our players at Zanzibar straight after a game.
It is straight out flinging shit at Fremantle and an insult. Problem is, no bastard stood up for us.
Even though it is only an excerpt from Pav's book , it still pisses me off.

During the first ten years of our existence the negative perception of Fremantle was entirely attributable to a corrupt media being at the beck and call of the most putrid club in Australia.

Heck I remember walking out of the comic store that used to be on Queen Street that was a few shops down from where Premier Pianos used to be and Clive Waterhouse walked past me, looked down on me, whilst I trembled holding a collection of Punisher comics.

Especially rated him when putting the "ultimate derby team" together with Hutchy and Watters on Footy WA. Not just footy ability, person he is, leadership etc. If it was even close to being true, I doubt he'd be talking him up so much.

I cant remember exactly. also how he was going to train seperately because of business commitments. I always wanted him to stay close to the club but he sort of bailed really fast. I think we all knew there were problems at the time. I mean half the squad were out injured - all the hallmarks of a tyrant coach pushing his players to hard.

Best one was when Palmer accidently broke Barlow's leg - was a genuine accident and then post game tough guy Harvey decides to get in Palmer's face about it. Palmer decides on the spot to pack his bag for GWS come end of the season. Now that is player management

Timeline is wrong in this story. The Barlow leg break was in Round 14, 2010 (the year Palmer was coming back from his 2009 knee injury). Palmer played through the following season and left at the end of 2011.

I used to see Shaunie Mc out on a Sunday drinking froffies as much as I would see Cousins at the Hippie club. A terrible influence around the club. He usually had a band of the young guys in tow.

It helps to have family members coaching the club. I'm not surprised Drum wanted to make a move in that regard.

Drum should have delisted him.

Macca might have lacked a lot of things, but he did not get selected by Freo because of family connections ( won the Larke Medal in the Under 18's ? ). He gave 100% on the field for Freo, that gets him a tick in my book.

It's been a while since I've seen it but although that question always gets brought up it was really the stumbling through the rest of the interview that's the real worry..

Seriously how funny is it on this site when nuffies say stuff like Harvey was unfairly sacked or that Lyon just capatalised on his hard work setting the team up. You can understand it from bitter St Kilda supporters but it really is amazing the amount of hate the man gets. I guess it's just our game style or something.

Oh yeah, those champion teams of the early 2000s where selection was tight and myriad of talented guns left after four games and won BnFs at other clubs? McManus played in shitful sides for the majority of his career. He tried his guts out and seems a pretty popular person. Even if he didn't deserve a game (he mostly did) you don't really delist someone so tough and liked. That kind of move ends up tearing up the playing group. Every so often, there are players you don't get rid of for other reasons. Michael Barlow is the current version of that: decent fella, good story, tries his heart out despite his weird way of going about it, comedian.

Also, players drinking a lot or drinking straight after games is not unique to pre-Cousins-sacking footy. In fact, these days, with the buzz around drugs and three strikes, a club would probably be chuffed if all its players were on the lagers on a Sunday night rather than on the gear.

I've seen Demons players smoking cig after cig hours after a win. I heard a story about Jack Riewoldt at the Geebung two weeks ago and had a kick on, with about 20 other AFL listed players, at his house when it closed. I've been to Pony on King Street and sighted plenty of younger guys with relatively noteworthy profiles in line and on the vodka raspberries literally an hour and a half after the game, like they'd just come straight across the road from Etihad. Barely unique in 2015 either.

The problem with harvey was he was trying to clone the sheedy approach trying to outsmart the opposition with radical moves and game plans. Sheedy had the footy smarts and charisma to pull it off.

iirc Harvey pioneered the "two ruckman" strategy which worked in one game and then failed in the next 10.

Mcmanus had more guts and determination than the entire team back then. The guy came back from 2 ACLs and still managed to make a fist of it.

his disposal which was much maligned early in his career dramatically improved in the 2nd half of his career and he was one of the first picked up until his last year.

McManus still pops into the club, still socializes with the staff/players - obviously a good influence or they would have told him to nick off.

It's called jealousy. People love to tear into success, wait until the Hawks come down. How quickly Thompson from the Cats was ravaged. The media in this country spend the entire AFL season flip-flopping from week to week like an ice cream shop rolling out new flavors.
