I think there was ‘Pavlich 2016’ thread somewhere recently, and there has been a reasonable amount of discussion about what we all expect the great man to be doing with his post football career. I’m sure if I dug around I’d find hundreds of posts hoping he’d coach in some form. I never though he looked like the coaching (or at least head coaching) type. Plus, more pertinently, he has repeatedly ruled it out himself!
No, I think that if Matthew is going to have an active role with the club in the future I think it lies in governance: I think Pav should be looking to get on the Fremantle Board as soon as the minimum decent interval has passed, with a view to becoming President at some point in the future.

I believe his integrity, professionalism and intelligence, his statue in the game and his dedication to the club and to the process of achieving excellence make him both a perfect public face for the club and well placed provide the club internally with non-executive direction / facilitate genuine accountability within management and the coaching group.
Thoughts?

Let him do what he wants for 3-4 years, and perhaps we might see him on the board one day, I think it is a long shot that he coaches. We will see him on Ch7 a fair bit I suspect, perhaps special comments from time to time on the odd game we play in that is a Ch7 fixture.

His currently finishing his MBA and has said besides media work that eventually he would like to be involved in off field footy operations.

I can see him as a CEO or possibly a Footy Manager look out rosich and bond. What about a role in the AFL operations?

He will certainly have lots of options.

What about the big questions:
- Will we retire the #29 for a year?
- Would a statue of the great man outside the new Cockburn facility be considered too gauche?

AFL commissioner material in future years and perhaps even a viable replacement for Gillon McLachlan as CEO of the AFL. I think he has ruled out coaching and will do some media work some time in the future. He will go to the top in his future chosen field because of the attributes he displayed during his footy career, honest, loyal, hard working and ethical. We are very lucky to have had such a great person and great player at this club.

serious question. Our 1st ever captain was Ben Allan. Was he a board member at freo when he reitred as a player? I knew he was a coach at freo in 2001 although interim coach he was

Ben Allan got on the board by being voted in by the members. It's was after he retired, in the interim period he was running a winery I think.

Don't see Pav taking the coaching route. I think he will do some media in 2017 (occasional special comments for Freo home games) and he will stay involved in the AFLPA

I suggest forever.

I can see him doing quite a bit of media work on the side while working towards a corporate pathway.

Is it a certainty he's going to stay in Perth? He seems a family oriented guy and I always thought he seemed the sort to go back to Adelaide.

His wife's from Perth and her family are all here. Particularly with a young family I would think he'd probably stay in Perth for a little while longer.

Up to him, but I'd love it if he eventually made his way into the AFL HQ itself, it's a boys club and it would be nice to see someone with integrity there. Should be qualified enough with am MBA behind him (soon enough), a rep for years in the ALFPA and therefore intimate with player issues, been the players rep at the rules committee and handles himself well in front of a press gathering.

Like Peter Bell and Luke McPharlin; dude is multi-talented.

Can do his apprenticeship in coaching; and would probably find his way to the seniors in probably less than 5 years.
Could slot straight into the Media - he'll have the wools over half the ex-Vic muppets currently ruling the roost.
Business - doesn't he own a shit load of business/real estate including a Race Horse? I imagine that will always play second fiddle to the top 2.

Personally; I think the media culture has more than jaded him - he's just too intelligent for it. My guess is he'll do a part-time Friday night stint Channel 7 and move into a developmental coaching role the following year.
