Riewoldt. And luckily enough he does play for my team.

Every time I have seen Pavlich play live I haven't been too impressed, but those times have been in pretty badly beaten Freo teams. Still some of his work was all class.

THis question should be asked in two years. By that time it will be a fairer comparision. ATM Pavlich is better, by 2005/6 it will be a no contest Riewoldt.

And don't St Kilda supporters spout some of the biggest bull**** on this site. "no contest"? Riewolt is/will be a good player but no contest?!?! Please..! By 2005/6 Pav will be a 4/5 time AA and will be the captain of his club.

And whats the crap about Riewlot being better in 34 more games? Part of that was because Reiwolt was injured. So if Riewolt is injured for 10 games next season does that mean Riewolt will have more improvement left because he's played another ten less games?

is either Bell or Pavlich being traded by Freo now???? I'd expect Bell to play on a bit past that....

Bell will be 30 in 2006 so your right. Bell will still be there. Maybe 2007/8 Pav will be captain and would be a good incentive for him to hang around.

riewoldt will definitely take more marks
he took the most in the comp last year and was about 5th this year

And don't Fremantle supporters spout some of the biggest bull**** on this site. "no contest"? Pavlich is/will be a good player but no contest?!?! Please..! By 2005/6 Roo will be a 4/5 time AA and will be the captain of his club.

Retrospective AA selections ?

Crazy.

funky made vaild point (regardless of AA selection amounts.) - as if it would be "no contest" that Riewoldt will be better by 2005/6.

So I see originality is your strong point!
(As Mr. T would say,"Fool!").

Black Ju Ju I take your point. AA's don't really mean the be all and end all anyway. Pav is still the better player and a Saints supporter saying "no contest" is still really a bit sad.

Pavlich a future star and Hird may provide measure
By Len Johnson
August 21 2003

Matthew Pavlich proves the match-winner against the Kangaroos.

Kevin Sheedy yesterday said Fremantle's Matthew Pavlich could become the AFL's best player, then challenged James Hird to have a bigger impact on Saturday's critical game than the emerging Docker.

After playing around in typical fashion with the question of whether Pavlich was a better player now than Hird is, or better now than Hird was, or would be better in the future than Hird is or was, the Essendon coach called Pavlich "a superstar" and said he was only getting better.

"I've got no doubt Pavlich could be the best player in the AFL by the end of this year and heading in to the next few years," Sheedy said before training at Windy Hill yesterday afternoon.

Pavlich gets my vote

I just copied Funky's post and changed the names around.

I didn't think anyone would be stupid enough to actually take notice of it, let alone reply, but I was wrong.

Having had the misfortunate of reading this thread again, I managed to see that it was Joffaboy that wrote "no contest Riewoldt". He actually said that Pavlich is currently the better player and by 2005/06 it will be no contest Riewoldt.

How the hell do you know how much Nick Riewoldt is going to develop over the next few years?

You've said Nick will be a very good player and Pavlich is a freak.

I rate Riewoldt as the best young player I've ever seen. I guess that will deserve another

He's not a man-mountain like Pavlich at this stage.

He has however led the marks in the competition as a 19 year old last year and was right up there this season. That includes contested marks.

He is absolutely fearless flying for marks and will need to be taught the difference between courage and stupidity because he's no use unconscious .

He has an excellent football brain, can run all day and is attitude is second to none.

A couple of minutes into round one 4 Kangaroo players crashed into him in a marking contest and if he didn't know it beforehand, he was made acutely aware that he was now going to be targeted physically. For that reason we have tried to play him on the wing and in defence as well as in the forward line. He (and probably 95% of players in the league) isn't built like Pavlich at this stage so doesn't have the same physical presence. Both have the endurance and ability to play as midfielders.

I think the majority of St Kilda supporters in this thread have only made a comment or two and most have acknowledged how good a player Pavlich is. I think he will be a champion.

The fact that Nick is younger and played less football would suggest that perhaps he does have a little more improvement in him.

Hopefully Saints fans will refrain from starting threads like this in the future.

The same Kevin Sheedy who watched Riewoldt run laps around Colonial in 2001 and then cursed the system that meant he had no chance at Riewoldt.

Before Riewoldt had played a game.

Yep. Thanks for agreeing with me. No one knows.

The great uncertainty of the future.

That is why the "no contest" phrase is a complete and utter joke.

Bookmark this thread now. We'll see in 3 years time.

Like a lot of the other Saints fans I happen to think Roo will be the better player down the track, Pav shades him at this stage.

There may be a slight contest though.

Id take Riewoldt for the simple fact that WC need true KPP's. Pavlich really isnt a true KPP and his value of running through the mdifield is not needed at WC, he would be our 5th best midfielder so Riewoldt would be the easy choice.

But that is his worth to WC. Standing alone they are both very very good players with Pavlich just in front at the moment but Riewoldt has plenty of time to catch him.

Riewoldt.

Tall forwards who are matchwinners and can bust open games like Riewoldt can/will are rare and irreplacable... more valuable than a freak midfielder like Pavlich. The same said for Carey/Kouta in their prime, Carey any day.

Pavlich for me, he is the complete package in terms of the positions he can play and his maturity for a young bloke, definate captain in the future, whereas I am not so confident about Reiwoldt, very immature off the field.

As a Saints supporter, I have seen far more of Riewoldt than I have of Pavlich, so obviously I'd be biased, so I refrain from voting.
All I'll say is I couldn't be happier to have a player of Riewoldts talent, ability and potential at my club.

At this stage of their careers, Pav wins hands down. He is a freak.

I still don't think we have seen anywhere near what Riewoldt is capable of. He missed his first season with knee surgery and apparently played this year with the op disease. Still, as a Saints supporter I'd take Riewoldt, no question.

Could you explain your reasons for posting that???? The few times I have seen him outside of football, I couldn't believe he was a 21 yr old KID. He seemed very mature to me.

Have you met him, morgoth? I have, and he is very mature for his young age and he deals with his virtual super-hero staus very well.
