Both recognised as probably the top 2 players from the 2005 draft and both coming into thier prime. Who would you prefer for 2012 and beyond.

Wow, a very very close poll IMO, I would have Pendlebury but only just, probably because he has had 2 elite seasons where Murphy has probably only had 1, would love either of them

Pendlebury. He has been better than Murphy the last two seasons, albeit not by much in 2011, and has performed better than Murphy in finals. Both are A graders, both are elite and both should be champions of the game.

And Pendles has a normie and was our best mid in 2011 Grand Final, as well as one of our top three players overall

He had 38 possies in the qualifing final and 32 in the Prelim

He had an awesome game against the Eagles in 07 over there, getting us over the line

In 09, when his leg broke in the start of the qualifieng final, our season was over

Pendelbury has done it more and on much more important stages

Didn't Murphy win the AFLCA award last year?

Murphy has always played well in the finals.

Carlton just haven't had as much "cattle" as the Pies.

Murphy had an elite season in 2009 as well. Stiff to miss the AA side after he kicked 30 goals as a midfielder and made the AA squad.

2006 Murphy
2007 Pendlebury
2008 Pendlebury
2009 Murphy
2010 Pendlebury
2011 Murphy

In my opinion...

Can't split them really. Both clubs are very lucky to have them. They will be the two biggest midfield names in the AFL very, very soon.

2x AA, Norm Smith vs 1x AA, 1x AFLCA....considering Murphy has never been eligible for the Norm it doesn't alter Pendles ranking all that much in my mind, especially considering Murphy was fantastic in both of our finals last year as well.

Again, can't split them.

It really should. Proving yourself on the biggest stage of all adds to a player's stock. Pendlebury has this, Murphy is still unknown here.

On the poll, Pendlebury is better. They're pretty even offensively, but Pendlebury is clearly better in clearances and defensive work. More rounded player.

Murphy was better in 2008 imo, do agree with the other years though. Backing Murphy in to have a better 2012 as well, so scores my vote. Barely anything between the two.

I've double checked the thread heading, the OP & the Poll & for the life of me I can't find any reference to Selwood, but FWIW, Selwood is the best of this trio & you can definitely throw a blanket over Murphy & Pendlebury.

Probably could have put Selwood in the poll, I think they'll be the Voss/Hird/Buckley of their time (not saying they'll be as good.)

Selwood's a qualifier.
