Care to have reasons to back them up?

Agree on Clark but Siddle has just as much talent if not more than the other bowlers you've listed.

Siddle has more talent than Tait? Bahahahah thats funny. If Tait hadnt been injured and coming back from taking time off Siddle would be back playing for Victoria.

I think Siddle is pretty good to. I think he bowled ok for his debut and show some encouraging signs.

Tait can bowl the ball fast and people cream themselves over it. He'll get wickets in ODI cricket like that, but in Test Cricket people can wait for the bad ones and belt him.

If you think thats all Tait has going for him, then good on you. Can swng the new redball and get reverse swing with the old ball.

Tait is good and I dont even like the bloke.

some of us believe in sportsmanship.

he was two pitch lengths outside off when he was struck.

I certainly wouldn't have appealed.

It's cricket mate, not Lawn bowls, players are going to appeal at anything that looks even remotely LBW - its been going on for years from every country and if you don't like it go watch a different sport, like Lawn Bowls.

Siddle, White & Pattinson - the last three Vics to play test cricket, all from Dandenong CC - a production line of true cricketing greatness!!

Siddle has a big future in our team.
Apollo Creed doesn't rate him, says it all really, the man who started a thread telling Hussey to enjoy his one and only test.
Great judge of cricketing ability that:thumbsu:
the SA's are bitter because Siddle has a greater future in the Test team then the ODI specialist Shaun Tait.
He was our best baller in the last test

That's a good point. In 47 first class matches, Tait has only taken 189 wickets at 27. And at an economy rate of 3.65. Maybe you should think before you speak.

That's the same stuff people said about Lee, and Tait can bowl faster and swing the ball more than Lee can, and he can actually reverse the ball too. But Lee has gone on to have a pretty good career.

Siddle is a good bowler, and should have a good career. But Tait has more talent and potential than Siddle does. And I think the selectors know that too.

Siddle knows what he is doing with the ball has control and keeps on running in for long spells.
Tait just trys to bowl fast and is only good in short spells and doesn't really have very good control.
I know what I would rather, I just don't think we can actually afford to risk Tait in the Test side with our current bowling line, too much risk.

Getting MOTM in only your fourth test match (and 17th first class match) is a pretty fair effort.

Finished the match with figures of 53.5-23-113-8, which is outstanding by anyones standards.

Above that, his enthusiasm and heart are there for all to see.
He never stops working hard and never stops encouraging his teammates, which is a vital, if undervalued, trait.

He's copped a lot of criticism over the past couple of months, but he's answered it all brilliantly, which shows a lot of character.

He's still got a long way to go before becoming a genuine test bowler, but with more experience and some luck with injury, all the signs are there to suggest he's going to become a quality international cricketer over a long period of time.

Well done, Sids.

He has not reached 20 first class games yet and has just turned 24. He has plenty of development to do yet. An 8 wicket haul against SA is a great achievement.

He is from my home town too. What's not to like?

Agree with this. Has a lot of potential, and undeniable passion.

Has a very nice future ahead of him.
Was absolutly stoked when he got picked to tour India, really anybody with half a clue can see this guy is a special bowler (hence the critisicm on BF:p)
Will be our best fast bowler in a few years. Bookmark it

I just hope he gets fit because he'll be devestating when he does. I mean fit fit. The good thing is he mentioned that himself so at least he's aware of it. At the moment he's a bit like a Darren Gough. Very talented but could drop a stone in weight. And IMO it hampered Gough's career because he never did anything about it.

I'd also like to add that it's disappointing hearing the underselling of McDonald by not only the fans but the commentators. Took vital wickets at important times and can seriuously bat yet has virtually been wiped without reason. I'd have hated to see what would've happened if Kallis hadn't have gone and nobody else was getting him out. I'd also hate to see what would've happened if Steyn and Ntini had've kicked on, when nobody else was getting Steyn out. Oh, and Amla in the first. Have to laugh at Ian Chappell also criticising the only two bowlers who's economy rate was just over a run an over.

Funny how people have selective and weird opinions.

Guaranteed that the coaching staff are all over him about it.

His bowling improved just in the span of the 3 tests. If he keeps his head screwed on he is going to be good.

As has been said before it looks very much like selectors 1 : BigFooty plonkers 0.

Looked great in the last two test. If he can work on his fitness to keep his pace up to 145km/h on a more consistent basis and then get a bit more swing we certainly are looking at our next superstar bowler.

Don't include me with the plonkers, I've been backing Sids from day 1 :D

Always been a fan.

He is your best bowler. Better than Johnson.
The BF experts will never agree with this, because he is a Victroian, and doesn't get as much hype as Johnson. But I am certain he will be our best bowler by 2011.
Hell he lead our attack today as the youngest player in the squad and hasn't even played 20 first class matches

Agree with this. Has a lot of potential, and undeniable passion.

I think that is part of the reason Ricky Ponting is such a strong supporter of him.
He obviously has the talent and potential, but he has a huge heart, is extremely passionate and works extremely hard.

If he doesn't make it, it certainly won't be because he lacked desire or work ethic.

I just hope he gets fit because he'll be devestating when he does. I mean fit fit.

Absolutely.

He's a naturally fit, athletic, strong guy but he's never really had an opportunity to get that elite level of fitness because of his constant injuries.

The good thing is he mentioned that himself so at least he's aware of it. At the moment he's a bit like a Darren Gough. Very talented but could drop a stone in weight. And IMO it hampered Gough's career because he never did anything about it.

I don't think Sids weight is an issue.
He certainly does need to develop that elite fitness base, but that will come with a good run with injuries.
He is very much a natural athlete and works his arse off, so that gives him a little head start on others who may perhaps be a little lazy.

What I love about him is, when he gets his tail up and is really charging in, he is always making the batsman play and putting balls in the right area. In Melbourne and Sydney he's consistently bowled a very dangerous and consistent line and length, while his control has also been very good. He hits the pitch hard and as already said, will keep running in all day.

Johnson has received all the plaudits this summer and rightly so, but the thing about Mitchell is, even when he's in the middle of a decent spell, he'll always give the batsman an out with balls that don't need to be played at. Siddle on the other hand is always making batsmen play, hence just about all his wickets have been bowled or LBW and he has been able to maintain real spells of pressure.

Knows how to use a short ball too, which seems to be a dying art. Even Steyn wastes his bouncers.

Guaranteed that the coaching staff are all over him about it.

I don't think his weight is an issue, to be honest.

His lack of an elite fitness base is an issue, but it's due to injury not to a lack of effort or discipline, which makes it somewhat easier to deal with.

If he can have some luck with injury, he'll be a genuine tank in 18 months time.

His bowling improved just in the span of the 3 tests. If he keeps his head screwed on he is going to be good.

That's the thing that many critics here overlooked, his scope for improvement.

His lack of experience and inability to get a proper fitness base mean that he's going to have some rough patches along the way, but the fact he's proven already proven capable of taking wickets in batches at this level shows just how much talent he has, and i for one am pretty excited at the prospect of an experienced and truly fit Peter Siddle.

Fingers crossed his back and shoulder hold up.

As has been said before it looks very much like selectors 1 : BigFooty plonkers 0.

:D

I like it.
