These 3 players are talls but don't seem to have a settled position.

Who would you say is the best of the three?

Petrie and Lynch are better, more consistent performers than Ryder. Ryder has the potential to be better than both of them.

Not a bad poll. Here's my take on it. The poll wil be won by Ryder, because there are a lot more essendon supporters on here. However, in reality it is probably Petrie > Ryder > Lynch. However, Lynch will only come last in this because many people didn't see the role that he played this year, as a 2nd ruckman he was very effective.
Make of that what you will, as i am now confused as to what order i would have them in:o

A difficult one.

Popular perception would lean towards Ryder, because he is an exciting young talent.

As far as actual contribution goes then Lynch.

Statistically Lynch leads in just about every area, except for tackles and hitouts.

You can see this in games as his high workrate leads to him having a bigger impact around the ground.

Lynch is a fair bit more mature than Ryder though and spends less time in the ruck.

Lynch's best performance was actually in the 2008 season on the wing. Spent the last 3rd of the season there and had a Richo like performance. He also managed a 65 goal season where he still had a bit of an impact around the ground in 06 (was being fed by one of the best Midfields of the last decade though). Fact is after 07 he has not really spent anywhere near the time at FF/CHF so it is difficult to get an accurate guage on his abilities as a permanent forward.

Basically he is older, but has played better in a season than Ryder has yet had a chance to do. Higher impact around the ground and has done more as a forward.

How I will qualify this though is that Ryder has more potential (possibly), is far younger and yet to experience the same opportunities and plays far more time in the ruck.

I should have expected Ryder to be winning the poll. I mean, of course Essendon supporters only watch their own players.

Regardless, I voted Petrie. The way he influences games is comfortably better than Ryder and Lynch in my book. Can play any position on the ground, the best mark of the 3 and has single handedly won the Roos some games. He should have been named the captain of North instead of Harvey in my opinion.

I believe Petrie is the better player at the moment, though Ryder could pass him.

No surprise Ryder is winning though, when was the last time you read about anybody from NM or WC?

ryder might eventually be the best, but petrie easily is the most consistent and reliable of the 3 atm, petrie for me

Petrie easily IMO, I can't believe Ryder's winning.

From an Essendon persepctive, Ryder is rated as highly as Hurley and Pears - thats to say rated very, very highly.

One of the few disadvantages of supporting Collingwood/Carlton/Essendon, when a poll goes their way - even if its true - then those that dissent will claim that sheer weight of rose tinted masses are the reason.

Sometimes mate, the Bomber / Blue / Pie actually IS the correct result.

I see your point but since when does a poll ever go our way? You could put a poll asking 'is a fully fit chris judd in top 10 players in the league?' and the answer will be clearly 'no' among non blues fans, I don't think you can include us there

Their is no way that a fully fit Chris Judd is in the top ten players in the league..... ;)

he'll get the gig in about a year or so for sure.

As to the poll, I voted petrie, not out of any bias, i just genuinely believe hes the better player. I dont rate Ryder hugely yet, waiting to see if he can have consistently good seasons.

Well IMHO he shouldn't be. If you offered me as a neutral supporter the choice of Hurley or Ryder I would take Hurley in a microsecond, and if we didn't already have Carlile I would say the same thing about Pears. As a defender Ryder was pretty much the most overrated player in the competition. As a ruckman, he's certainly very good for someone so young but once again has been overrated. People suggesting him for AA honours was ridiculous, I'd have any of Sandilands, Clark, Cox or Jolly in there before even considering Ryder, and IMO McIntosh had a slightly better year also.

Ryder is a big game player though, I'll grant you that. That's actually probably a large part of the reason that he gets overrated. He plays well in high-profile games that people watch (i.e. the ANZAC day match), so non-Bombers supporters assume he must play like that every week.

Ryder has toweled up some phenomenal (ever tried to spell that word and then wonder if you got it right?) forwards, and is as athletic a player as you will see. As a ruckman I would take Cox and Sandilands ahead of him, but his versatility and athletic ability make him almost un-tradeable.

There are worse things then a player who performs in big games. Ryder is one of three or four players at Essendon whom I consider untouchable.

So you're not willing to consider the versatility of the other 2 options? Not to mention, it's not all about versatility. I consider Petrie a much better footballer than Ryder as he's a better mark, kick and reader of play. While he might not be as athletic as Ryder, he's still capable of playing any position on ground and has single-handedly won the Roos some games. In the end, I consider Petrie the winner of this poll.

Jesus, thank you for your insight, your majesty:rolleyes:
