With the draft camp results in and the draft commencing soon, I thought I'd make another phantom draft due to the drastic changes, so feel free to lock or delete my previous phantom. Trade results are also in.
This draft will also include second round picks, though, still in the process of making them. Not to mention, I will be re-editing this once the trades are done and dusted. Regardless-
Priority pick, Melbourne - Tom Scully - (Not much to say here, absolute gun. Reads play well, tackles hard, generally uses the ball well. Can't go wrong picking him at #1)
Pick #2, Melbourne - Jack Trengove - (I reckon Melbourne will take Trengove instead of Butcher here. They already have a few forward options and Trengove is a great youngster with good leadership skills and a great kick, though it could go either way between him and Butcher)
Pick #3, Richmond - Dustin Martin - (Richmond are rebuilding and if they need to improve on one thing, it's their kicking skill. Dustin Martin is one of the best kicks in the draft and overall, he's a brilliant football who's loaded with skill)
Pick #4, Fremantle - Anthony Morabito - (Has Fremantle written all over him. Morabito is a home-grown youngster and would fit in Fremantle nicely whether playing a tall midfield role or a mid-sized KP role)
Pick #5, North Melbourne - Ben Cunnington - (North Melbourne already have plenty of developing Key Position players like Hansen, Tarrant, Josh Smith and right now, they need quality in their midfield. Cunnington is probably the next best midfielder in the draft. Goes hard at the ball, fearless and has been likened to James Bartel)
Pick #6, Sydney - Gary Rohan - (Fast crumbing forward who reads the play very well. Good mark too and would suit Sydney's messy game style well with his running. Not to mention, he can play midfield too and if anything, Sydney need to stock up on young midfielders)
Pick #7, West Coast - Kane Lucas - (Probably destined to go to West Coast. Classy midfielder, sometimes his kicking is brilliant, sometimes it's not but regardless, he's still a very good player who can kick a few goals too. Not to mention, he's home-grown for the Eagles. Tested very well in Draft Camp too, coming first in the agility test, he's quite an athletic freak)
Pick #8, Port Adelaide - John Butcher - (John Butcher's slipping will come to an end at this point. Port need a new key forward with Treadrea aging and question marks on their own Trengove. Butcher is a strong marking Key Forward who also applies a lot of pressure on opposition)
Pick #9, Port Adelaide - Luke Tapscott - (Port Adelaide will go with a home-grown gun with this pick. Tapscott is one of the best kicks in the draft. He usually plays midfield but can push up forward too and make a dangerous target of himself)
Pick #10, Essendon - Koby Stevens - (Essendon have been drafting several KPPs over the years so now's the time they have to recruit a midfielder to help Watson with the clearances. Stevens would be an excellent choice as he's quite a tank of a midfielder, goes hard at it and can kick a few goals too)
Pick #11, Melbourne - Aaron Black - (Melbourne need a KPF and Black here has shown some brilliant form recently, kicking bags of goals in the WAFL. He's older than the other draftees but what you get with Black is a genuine Full Forward who has football smarts with good marking and kicking skills)
Pick #12, Carlton - Jake Carlisle - (With Carlton losing Fevola, they'll need to secure another forward option. Carlisle would be the best available as he's quick on the lead, very good overhead and would replace Fev nicely. One might argue the Blues will take Talia but I think they're already stocked with KPDs and a Fevola replacement is a requirement IMO. Not to mention, Carlisle's a center-half forward too, so Carlton still got something they needed, even when they had Fev)
Pick #13, Adelaide - Lewis Jetta (They recruited KPPs last year so this time it's midfielders. With Jetta, they get an exceptional footballer who has great skills, a penetrating kick and likes to kick a goal too. Could replace McLeod too when he retires)
Pick #14, Sydney - Jordan Gysberts (As I said with their previous selection, Sydney need midfielders developing to take over the roles of Kirk, Bolton, O'Keefe etc and at this point, Gysberts is definitely the best available. Very silky and clean midfielder who's also quite tall being over 190cm)
Pick #15, Western Bulldogs - Daniel Talia (People say the Dogs need a Key Forward but then forget that their Key Position Defenders are getting on the age too. Daniel Talia would fit with the dogs well as they really do need a CHB and someone to be the heir of Lake)
Pick #16, Port Adelaide - Nathan Vardy (They picked a midfielder and a forward earlier in the draft so now, they need a ruckman to be the heir for Brogan and Lade. Vardy is definitely the best available and I'd imagine Port would be very happy to get him)
Pick #17, Geelong - Matthew Panos (It was either a ruckman or a forward I had Geelong taking but I don't think Geelong will pass on Panos as he is a good Center-Half Forward who does all the simple things well. He's good on the lead and can take a good mark and kick it from 50 out. Needs to work on his pressure a bit however)
Pick #18, Melbourne - Brad Sheppard (Melbourne might get another KPP with this pick but I think they'll pick Sheppard because he's a gun Half Back flank who would free up Jack Grimes to play in the midfield which seems to work best for him as seen in the latter part of the season)
Pick #19, Richmond - Ryan Bastinac (As I stated previously, Richmond need some elite kickers in their side. While some may argue they need a key position forward, I think they're alright with Riewoldt at CHF and several developing options at FF whether it be Putt, Post, Vickery etc. Bastinac is a highly rated midfielder with
Pick #20, Fremantle - Troy Taylor (Pavlich is getting older and their forward line's strength is getting thinner. Fortunatley, Troy Taylor will be at Freo's pick and he's a gun. Capable of doing amazing things in the forward line and would be the successor to none other than the Wizard)
Pick #21, North Melbourne - Jake Melksham (To fill the last gap in North's developing midfield, they'll select Melksham who is a gun with good disposal and will compliment Ziebell and Cunnington well)
Pick #22, West Coast - Mitchell Duncan (I probably have this guy slipping too much too. Very skilled midfielder who can play a KP role if needed. Would fit inside West Coast's developing side well as a utility)
Pick #23, West Coast - Travis Colyer (West Coast have stated they need a crumbing forward as they want to push LeCras into the midfield and Colyer would work nicely. He's a very fast player who likes to kick a goal and plays midfield too)
Pick #24, Essendon - Roland Ah Chee (Taking Stevens with their first pick, Essendon will be looking for some extra speed in their midfield with the loss of Lovett. Ah Chee would be a good selection here as he runs like a bullet)
Pick #25, North Melbourne - Ben Griffiths (With North taking 2 midfielders prior to this pick, I think they'll go for a forward here. Ben Griffiths being the best available would work well as he's quite a tank, has a huge kick and a strong mark. He could be the pressance in North's forward line, working with Josh Smith and Robbie Tarrant)
Pick #26, Essendon - James Craig (Hille is aging, Laycock is a spud, Ryder is more of a defender/forward and there are several question marks over Bellchambers and Hooker. In the end, Essendon need another ruckman and Craig is the right choice at this stage. Although undersized, he does a great job rucking, good mark and can play in defence or up forward)
Pick #27, Brisbane - Mark Hutchings (I think Brisbane will go for Mark Hutchings with their first pick. He's a midfielder that goes hard in the contests, great leadership and a pretty good kick too. Would replace Simon Black)
Pick #28, Geelong - Jack Fitzpatrick (I think Geelong will be searching for a ruckman since losing Shane Mumford. With Ottens aging, Fitzpatrick would not only be a good replacement for him in the ruck, but up forward too. I don't think Trent West or Dawson Simpson can fill that role)
Pick #29, Adelaide - Alex Carey (With Adelaide's old players on the age, Adelaide will want a good replacement for Tyson Edwards and Carey would be great. Quality inside midfielder who will work nicely with Vince, Mackay etc)
Pick #30, Collingwood - Sam Reid With Simon Prestigiacomo retiring soon and Leigh Brown unlikely play at the Pies for much longer, I think Collingwood will look for another KP Defender to give them a nice and solid in development. Not to mention, Sam is the brother of Collingwood defender, Ben)
Pick #31, Western Bulldogs - Nat Fyfe (The Bulldogs definitely need a new small forward and Fyfe would definitely be the heir to Akermanis when he's not around anymore. Fyfe is a creative and fast small forward who likes kicking goals he will set their future development up well.
Pick #32, St.Kilda - Jesse Crichton (Skillful inside midfielder who will probably take over the Hayes role. Goes very hard at it and I was pretty impressed watching him play)
Pick #33, Essendon - Callum Bartlett (Would have gone first round if he didn't get injured. High risk but potentially high reward. Bartlett is a very talented midfielder who likes kicking the ball and goals for that matter)
