I think it was a combination of border issues and letting him focus on footy that was highlighted last week when Ralph released that piece about not meeting him yet
Yeah that was fine, why emphasis “finally” when borders are still shut, trade week is still ongoing and the draft is a month away

Apologies if this has been covered but WTAF are Adelaide doing offering that Melbourne future first? Aren’t they trading that for Dawson? Or have they already decided he’s going PSD?
Maybe they were hoping we would fall for the Joyces three-card-trick and hand them over pick 1.. which then meant they could walk Dawson straight through the PSD without any road blocks..

In effect for the 3 first rounders they were willing to give us they pick up Hornet & Dawson.. full marks for having a crack I guess..

I said to the lads on the Crows forum, it is usually a WAG issue. If he is in a serious relationship with a SA lady and they end up settling down and start a family, the better half wants to be around her side of the family for support. This is what almost got Neale going home again.
Bit harsh mate!

Not well. Got 2 votes.

Not playing in the WA/SA U18 game this afternoon. Anyone know the reason? NMFC cotton-wooling him?

So the hype is currently a little too extreme?

Remembering that the highest rated footballer to come to our club through the draft finished 2nd in the Sandover as a 17 year old.

The hype is definitely over the top
He’s the best talent but the gap between him and Callaghan is not that big imo

Supporters need to temper their expectations of this young man, he is not going to be 'the great white hope" but a valuable acquisition to our team, cross fingers. Never forget the vindictiveness of some Media and supporters, the same people talking him up will be bagging him if he doesn't play like a 26 year old Gary Ablett next season.

I hear you. There is no greater burden than the number one draft pick tag for your career. People will judge you continually based on that.

The fact that we have a team of guns now means that it just wont happen.
If he holds his own at AFL level and shows signs the fans will be ok.

SANFL superior to WAFL. And I wouldn't put much stock in umpire votes.

AFL Trade Period: North Melbourne has officially met with Jason Horne-Francis after Adelaide’s huge offer for No. 1 draft pick
After knocking back Adelaide’s offer, the Kangaroos have officially met with Jason Horne-Francis. Here’s how it all went down, plus the latest on the Crows’ play.

It’s finally happened, Kangaroos fans.

Prospective No.1 draft pick Jason Horne-Francis officially met with North Melbourne’s recruiting team on Saturday, as the Roos consider crowning him the country’s best teenage prospect.

Joining Horne-Francis were his agent Ben Williams, of Players Ink management group, mother Trish and stepfather Fabian Francis, who played 109 games for Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne.

Kangaroos coach David Noble was not in the Zoom meeting, with list boss Glenn Luff and recruiting manager Mark Finnigan among the club’s representatives.

The catch up ends a fortnight of commentary about North Melbourne having not met with the South Adelaide phenom, who is being likened to Patrick Dangerfield and Michael Voss.

Horne-Francis is the reason the Crows made an audacious offer this week to the Roos of three first-round selections to try to snatch the top pick, while also receiving a future second-rounder back.

The disclaimer is one of those selections is premier Melbourne’s future first-rounder and there may not be a major difference between that and the Roos’ second pick next year.

North Melbourne rejected Adelaide’s informal proposal but it may not be the Crows’ last ahead of the November 24 draft night.

Eyebrows were raised when Horne-Francis told the News Corp last month he hadn’t had any official contact with the Kangaroos’ list management crew.

“No, I haven’t actually spoken to North yet, which I think most people think is a little weird. But I think we will get there soon,” he said.

“I have spoken to 11 or 12 clubs but I am happy to go anywhere, really. I think North have some interest but I will embrace wherever I go.

“North are a really young and developing team. They are exciting to watch, so it would be good to come into a young squad like that and develop with the young boys, but I haven’t heard much from them yet.”

Asked last week about not meeting with Horne-Francis yet, Kangaroos list manager Luff explained they had intended to do so face-to-face once the Covid-19 situation settled.

North’s recruiting team also wanted to give the brilliant 18-year-old breathing room while he played in the SANFL finals.

I find this very strange.

To not meet with him or talk to him until after half way through trade week.

With the reasoning being we wanted to meet face to face (the other reason being to “respectfully wait until his footy had finished is laughable) and then Noble isn’t even present.

So they waited 10 months just for Luff and Finnigan to Zoom?

Has anything liked his happened ever before? Doubt it. It seems to have raised eyebrows, JHF himself made the point “others” (I read that as he too finds it weird) found it strange.

I hope they know what they are doing.

Possibly.

It was only a comparison regarding the level of hype between the players themselves.

Horne being described as a generational talent would lead me to think that he would be universally considered one of the better players in the SANFL.
