I think KKs point is that if JHF is attacking the ball as relentlessly as some of the highlights suggest he will and comes up against say a sloane, or any other in and under AFL mid something has to give.

Thats Right Koshari...Dont forget that while he has been playing against men in the SANFL its another step up ,or more, in the AFL so l'm more worried about him coming off 2nd best trying to stop a player like Sloane, Dangerfield, Dusty ect...l think it would look like the Cunnington fend off at training to either Powell or Phillips. l can't remember which 1 it was and while that was fun to watch l hate to think JHF getting injured because of his over zealousness..

So I agree that the comments in isolation probably wont have an effect on Jason himself, but it has the effect that it pops up in the media, professional agitators like Cornes bring it up, it's leading the sports bulletins, etc, and as mentally strong as the kid might be, that kind of thing can have an effect. Especially if he has some down form early on or something and then it's just ripe to be brought back up again, if that makes sense. It's just all downside to those comments. I don't think there's anything good that can come out of that sort of stuff.
This is hand-wringing of epic proportions.

Hardly. Just a small concern that this sort of shit will continually be brought up by the likes of Cornes in the media if JHF has a slow start or a bad patch of form. EVeryone knows that he won't miss the opportunity to continually bring it up and there's a potential that could bring a layer of pressure that didn't need to be there.

But I'm not ****ing calling for Clayton's head for those comments or anything.

It's a fair point. It's one thing to take down a noted paperweight like Darcy Fogarty running with a head of steam, but to come up against a brute like Rory Sloane in the clinches is a whole other matter.
Not sure if serious.

Fogarty is 12kg heavier than Sloane and about 10cm taller. Fogarty is a very decent size.

The whole pressure thing will be fine.

There's about half a dozen players who we have hype around and serious pressure to come good - he isn't the saviour and the lone hero.

Because this is metered out across the young brigade, it'll be a shared experience. You can build a successful environment off this, it's positive competitive pressure.

TT, LDU, Phillips, Powell, Stevo are under pretty high pressure to develop as elite performers. To some extent Larkey, Zurhaar, McKay and Simpkin will have expectations to go to another level as well.

Then Perez, Comben and Bonar all have question marks they need to address. Add Lazzaro, Ford and Curtis who will be fighting to lock down spots, it only reinforces my point.

This isn't like Walsh at Carlton, there's a whole cohort of players who are under pressure and they'll take the spotlight. JHF comes into his own on his clock.

But I'm not ******* calling for Clayton's head for those comments or anything.

If it wasn't this comment it would be some other junk (I've noticed that his jumper is a bit loose, is it a sign of arrogance etc) and at least this way Clayton (who probably is too old to give a stuff) will take the heat if required.

I only have two concerns about JHF.
1. We don't place too much pressure on the kid.
2. They pronounce his name right on Brownlow night.

Literally only concerned about point 2!

At the Panthers he was their best player, at the Roos he is one of a ton of gun young players to deal with.

If some opposition team puts all their time into stopping JHF I shutter to think what Jy, LDU, Philips, Thomas, Powell, etc will do to them whilst they are distracted worrying about JHF.

I wasn't sure why the poster before me suggested that JHF would be ragdolled by Sloane when he had famously taken down the much bigger Fogarty. At this rate, he will be making Nic Natanui his b*tch.
No me either then i thought well ... maybe you thought Fogarty was soft or something. Sloane is slightly bigger than Jed, but I know who I'd rather be trying to take down.

haha I heard someone txted into SEN 2 days ago and said 33 days till JHF
Why is the draft at the end of November? Seems unnecessary. Make trade week smaller, do all the testing/camps etc and it’s all wrapped up in October. Gives the young players longer to get their shit together and say goodbyes before training starts as well. Most don’t know where they’re going.
