Is this going to be a bad year to bottom out? Are we actually going to see much under 18 football played? Very typical us.

Most definitely and if you look at draft history it has shown many players move up and down the pecking order during the course of the year.

Definitely the best year for a few sliders.

In 2018, the Suns allegedly wanted three 1sts for Pick 1 with one of those being a pick inside the top 5. If that option presented itself in 2020, it would make for an interesting discussion at West Lakes.

You'd almost have to be mad to not take that deal.

Currently holding picks 1, 7, 20, 21 :)

Don't want to jeopardise those by winning games, well placed with this squad and a more difficult draw still ahead to consolidate those picks.

6 picks in the top 21 is what we should be aiming for.
That's very unrealistic, I can't remember any club having that bar GWS and Gold Coast in the last few years

I'd be happy with four picks - 1, 2 (Brouch compo hopefully), one in the 10-14 range (GWS pick) and our own or the Bulldogs' 2nd. The other 2nd we have plus other bits and pieces can go out for Hately

That gives us Thilthorpe, one of Phillips/Hollands/O'Driscoll, a couple of other top tier guys, Hately, and hopefully Edwards, too

Bcrouch will be leaving, that is guaranteed. What we get for him will likely depend on his contract. Feel the club will likely trade Lynch in contract and retire Walker and Gibbs early. We wont get much for Lynch, maybe a late 2nd or 3rd. Feel Laird and Smith may be moved and quite possibly MCrouch. I think its quite possible we may have 7 picks in the top 30. May as well extract as much value as we can from experienced players that have some value. Smith, Laird and the Crouches are the best candidates. Any players we look at must have speed, agility, height, athleticism, guts, good decision makers and good disposal.

What leadership experience does that leave us with, Talia and Sloane? You can't have a couple of veterans + all kids going through a rebuild, we'll end up like Carlton from these past few years

Gibbs and Walker will definitely retire within the next 16 months, they'll retire as Crows. Lynch I can see being phased out of the side by round 1 next year and becoming a depth player in his remaining few years a la Van Berlo, retiring in 2022. Laird I can see leaving for more opportunity in a good side, same with Atkins

Mrouch and Smith will absolutely be kept around the club as leadership presence though, IMO. Re: Matt - it's quite possible Sloane becomes a full-time forward flanker in the next year or so, which means we'll be completely lacking experience in the middle. Need an experienced, steady head to lead us through these times, and I think Matt is that guy

Also I agree that the players we look for must have those traits, but you're almost describing the perfect player, hard to get six or seven of those in the one draft :p

Normally I would say don't bid on other plays you know are definitely going to get matched as you're really just pissing off another team who you may have to trade with at a later date. But in this instance, we should definitely bid on Jamarra Ugle-Hagan. Pick 1 will always be a lightning rod, let WB deal with that. Plus we didn't get a great return for Keath and Bevo has always been a little sook.

I would trade in experience similar to what gws did. I just don't believe in our current experience who are done with club and need a fresh start. We need top level draft picks and good experienced trades looking for more opportunity. Gws showed if you get it right you can come good over 3 or 4 years

That's a fair point, actually, I just can't see our club moving out so much experience in the one go

Interested to ask, what kind of traded in experience would you have in mind, like what kind of names?

Won't someone think of the leadership group?!
Are Keays and Crocker the most experienced players on the list after that?

Good to see Mackay getting another year.

:)

Would need to analyse what we need based on who leaves end of the year. I do know that with list sizes being reduced this may be critical to a club like adelaide that needs some good experience to pair with young kids. If list sizes are reduced to 38 or even 35 there will be quality looking for a job. Our problem currently is our cap and we still have older experienced players on big money that aren't delivering on field such as Gibbs, Walker,Lynch combined with still paying part of Jenkins and Betts wages. We would need to back end some deals for trades.

That's a cop out.

You made the statement back it up with players you think suit our needs...

Here's a good starting point, a list of players currently uncontracted , free agents and RFA's, quite a few "experienced" types throw some names at us that you think are gettable...

So what happens if the bulldogs finish 17th. And decide not to match because they prefer another option instead of JUH. And then you’re stuck with him?

I mean, JUH is the best prospect in this draft in mine and a lot of others' opinions, so we'll gladly accept him ahaha

No way the Dogs don't match though, they won't let him slip
