Pick 6

I reckon swapping it for Lever would be a great outcome. He will be a long term elite player and we would be doubtful of getting the same quality if we go to the draft.

I suspect Adelaide may want more for him though. Maybe 6 plus one of the young Adelaide boys, Broomy, Aish or Shaz would get it done
I'm a little tired of us getting boned in the drafting game.

If we want lever that badly, lever wants to leave Adelaide that badly then pick 6 and that's that.

If not to thevsraft we go. Brander looks like a nice box of chocolates if there.

Maybe trade for another mid teens pick and get balta. That's two Bs right there that might just do.

Triple B? Add Bonar as his name alone would provide some mirth next to Mason.

Not sure I think we would be boned on that one. Runs a line with Beams for pick5, Crisp and pick 25 (Greenwood). Lever is a realised potential and you need to pay for that. I doubt very much we would pick a better player than Lever if we go to the draft.

Pick 6 plus one of out 18-25 players would seem right to me.

Lever is 6'5" or 195 cm same as Ben Reid. If McLarty, 197cm, can develop and he shows some good signs then we have a long term KPD combination. Fills a big need.we have KPF filled partly with Moore and Cox, agree still need another but not a real obvious KPF likely around pick 6 and Lever will be a gun.

Other consideration is f Moore can be a 30-40 goal forward nxt year, Elliott 40-50 and Fas around 30+ we are in much less need of another KPF. If Cox and Grundy play together Cox can be a 20+ goal kicker and suddenly we are looking potent
And throw in Kirby, starts looking menacing (potential ofcourse)
Based on what we're saying something like:

HF. Hoskin-Elliot ~ Moore ~ Fasolo
F. Elliot ~ Cox ~ Kirby

I. Daicos

Then the back line set up:

B. Scharenberg ~ Dunn (McLarty) ~ Langdon
HB. Howe ~ Lever ~ Maynard

I. Reid (and he becomes genuine swingman, at his age fulfills roaming brief)

Taking this a step further. Obviously play around for team balance etc.

Collingwood sort of best 22:

B. Scharenberg ~ Dunn ~ Langdon
HB. Howe ~ Lever ~ Maynard
C. Sidebottom ~ Treloar ~ Adams
HF. Hoskin-Elliot ~ Moore ~ Fasolo
F. Elliot ~ Cox ~ Kirby
R. Grundy ~ Pendlebury (c) ~ De Goey
I. Reid ~ Wells ~ Daicos ~ Goldsack

E. McLarty, Crisp, Phillips

Extras: Aish, Greenwood, Brown, Keeffe, Thomas, Sinclair, Broomhead, Ramsay, Wills, Sier, Crocker, Smith, Schade.

Some will go, in the full, some trading etc.

Collingwood Futures Market:

B. Scharenberg ~ McLarty ~ Langdon
HB. Howe ~ Lever ~ Maynard
C. Sidebottom ~ Treloar ~ Adams
HF. Hoskin-Elliot ~ Moore ~ Daicos
F. Elliot ~ Brander ~ Kirby
R. Grundy ~ Pendlebury (c) ~ De Goey
I. Sier ~ Phillips ~ Balta ~ ?

Fair points raised.

Just keep their hands off Scharenberg :D

I'm really! looking forward to the tag team of Scharenberg and Langdon over the next decade.
Could be fantastic for us.
Throw in the leadership of Howe and say we do get Lever, we have something very very very good, I think (hope).

Maynard is moving to wing / middle i suspect - he's a beauty

Keep pick 6 and if any one of leaves , and can get two second rounders, then use them to get back into 1st round if possible.

Our back line looks too slow, we need WHE to be trialed in defense or broomhead.

Prefer Broomhead there, WHE can consistently hit the scoreboard.
Ive thought at trialling Broomhead as that small rebounding defender as well

That quick defender is a position we've been lacking in for years. The opposition small forwards always carve us up and we've lost the drive out of defense since the departure of Harry, heater and Leon

Sinclair was just coming good until a few too many head knocks, Ramsay hasnt been able to recapture the form he had since doing ACL.
Its definately an area we need to address. Pace is a problem in our backline too

There is a yin and a Yan.
We need team balance
What is wrong with going all out for draft pics for 2-3 years.
Build up a core team of around the same age group with supporting players.
Then come in later with the top up players.
We simply have too many mismanaged holes in our group.
I'm getting a little tired of free agency and trading.
Get the group on song.
Get the culture right.
Build from there with youth.

I would see Lever as a great fit for our demographic

Holy crap that is a terrible return for such a high pick. If you take the last 6 years out it looks like what you'd expect at pick 30.

Seems to be a little bit of talk that Lever has said no to both the dogs and us.

Who really knows though as it's nearly the silly season again.

Oxley. Now there's someone I haven't thought about in a while....
What's the deal with Oxley.

People mention him in shadows and smoke behind the windows (thanks trav).

What's the deal

Good guy or tat bag

Or is it just old tales ?

Hawks stuffed up 05 06 pick 6 picks and still went on and won the flag in 08 and then you know the rest. Remarkable really.
