For us to keep 6 I don’t think it will be someone from left field, it will be pretty conventional and not widely disputed. Something pretty safe at 6.
Wouldn’t count on it. Last time we had such an early pick we selected JDG, who heaps had rated outside the top 10.

True but we knew Moore was coming at 9, a no brainer for top 5 IMO so we had some flexibility. Big fan of JDG for the record. This year we have no back up picks and there was opportunity to drop back and have two cracks but we wanted to stay up front. (Assuming we didn’t try) unless we see something that’s a must have and didn’t want to take the risk.

This year should see if JDG was worth 5, I think he has shown enough to justify but not there yet.

I don’t buy in to that reasoning at all. JDG was selected for the same reason he makes for any of his picks. He was the best available in his opinion, and as it stands he was pretty spot on. Had nothing to do with Moore imo.

As for trading down, I’d assume we have a specific player or two in mind and we didn’t want to take the risk on missing out on them by trading down. Plenty of players bolt up the rankings between trade and draft time, so it’s hard to fault keeping a pick that maximizes the odds of getting our targeted player.

Best available on past form or potential?

Hine has a habit of picking on potential. Unless one of Cerra, LDU, Rayner etc slides, I’m expecting to see something left field. We’ll likely have a better idea in a week or two.

That’s sort of what I was getting at, Rayner and LDU won’t be there But Cerra, Fogarty may well be and I have a feeling we will go for one of them. Not discounting a left field option but my feeling it will be someone every has on their radar.

Don’t think Cerra will be. Blues and North apparently both pretty high on him. Fogarty might be but he’s not a top 5 or even top 10 lock at this point. I’m hoping we take him if he’s available because I really rate him, but I won’t be upset if Hine reaches for a player like Balta either.

Can you elaborate on this? Because that’s a hell of an assessment of an 18 year old.
Whats up with Baltas attitude langers first I've heard of this
Having spoken to some people invovled with Calder he's the token ******** in the draft. As soon as he was being rated as a first round he pick he started refusing to diet, do gym work, started skipping training drills. Around the national champs and combine he didn't train at calder at all saying he "doesnt want to risk injury just for TAC Cup"
I've never net the bloke but multiple people from metro and Calder have said this to me

A few whispers. I mentioned a month or two ago about our interest, he was subject of a potential trade down, but there's been some interest from clubs around the top 10 mark because of his potential (hasn't played as much footy as others given his cricket commitments). I won't say he's favourite - I still think it's Coff followed by Bonar - but there are some who think he's "in the mix".
I know St.Kilda and Bulldogs are right into him but never heard anything about the pies. Very interesting as I expect him to be quite the player

Thanks for sharing..........sounds like the boy has some growing up to do.

Yeah it's more whispers coming from the Murphy camp side of things rather than the Pies camp. They're keen, but whether they rate him above the others I'm not so sure. I'd still take Coff ahead of him but Murphy certainly has good potential.

Having done no research into this years draftees i'd be interested to see what order you guys think the top 6 will go in?

Anyone want to have a go?

1 LDU
2 Dow
3 Rayner
4 Cerra
5 Brayshaw
6 Coffield

If I had to guess.

Too far out to say. LDU, Dow and Rayner pretty much the only guaranteed.
My phantom has the top 5 like this
1-LDU
2-Dow
3-Brayshaw
4-Cerra
5-Rayner
I'd imagine our pick affects the rest of the first round the most

KPP is what we need the Most so that be 1 of Brander or Naughton
I'd be happy taking our chances with one of Hugh Dixon, Harrison Petty, Oscar Clavarino or even Charlie Ballard (195 cm not complaining) being available at pick 38 if it means we take someone like Coffield or Fogarty at pick 6.
Even Hayden McClean or Tom McCartin could be worth a punt at our later picks

So most importantly... who goes number 6?

I heard theres no reall KPP's that are top 10 prospects. Surely we take the best available player aat 6 rather than a KPP who would still be available outside the top 10.

If we were going to take a KPP who we could get at say 12... then trade Pick 6 for 12 and a 2nd round??.

As others have said it'll be Coffield, Fogarty, Bonar, Brander or Naughton. It's difficult to say especially since with our recent first round picks we've always gone best available over going for addressing list needs. I think the KPP talent in this draft isn't vastly different in terms of skill from the first round to the fourth so I hope we go with Coffield or Fogarty then rely on one of the players I mentioned in my response to TradeDraft to be available at pick 38, 56 and 61, which is looking likely. The draft haul I'd most like would be Coffield, Dixon, Clavarino and McCartin, with Clavarino probably the least likely to be available at the pick I think he'd be worth
