MMOFPS genre looks pretty sweet. Think Battlefield Caspian Border as one territory or base with hundreds of players fighting for control of this one base. Then stitch 50 odd Caspian Border size territories together to form a region with thousands of players fighting with a multitude of different classes and ground and air based vehicles across 3 warring factions fighting for control.

A lot of BF3 Youtubers are getting pretty excited about this title which is in Beta testing right now.

Anybody looking at getting into this game? Just need a PC myself.....

Watched my mate play this game the other night. Looks very fun.
It's a shame I'd need to purchase a new computer to be able to run it.
Looks pretty sweet with 2000+ on each server!
Graphics wise, looks to chew up similar resources to Battlefield 3...

Somehow I neglected to mention in the OP that this is FREE TO PLAY!

So this is out on Wednesday.

-2000 people per server

-Plays pretty similar to Battlefield, however the game doesn't end in turns. It's more of a perpetual war for territory, which, because of the size of the maps is more about disrupting supply lines then taking over a flag point.

-3 Massive maps and 3 Factions. It's faction vs faction vs faction.

-You create a soldier and assign him his/her faction. That choice is permanent, like an MMO.

-Is classified as an MMOFPS, like the original Planetside.

-Free-to-Play. Real money is used to purchase cosmetic items and XP boosts, only. Everything else is bought with in-game currency.

-Aussie Server. Sony were kind enough to provide an Aussie server for us, which went up in the beta last week I believe.

-Steam. It will be on Steam, for those who are inclined to game exclusively on Valve's platform.

-At the moment it's still a bit undercooked, so expect it to be a slightly unoptimized for a while.

Other than that, there's no real reason not to give this a go if people are interested. It's a great financial model where hopefully everybody wins, including Sony who have invested heavily into this incredibly ambitious game.

Played PS1 and have been waiting a long time for PS2.
Having access to beta was a bonus and looking forward to release.
NC - Connery

Got 20 mins worth or downloading left before I play this badboy.

Any suggestions on which Faction I should join?

Thinking; New Conglomerate > Vanu Sovereign > Terran Republic

I played a few mins of it earlier and chose Vanu. I'm not really sure what the difference is yet, though.

Also, nvidia have some new beta drivers out that have specifically targeted performance in PL2 as well as Assassins Creed 3, so if you're on a nvidia card, be sure to download them, because this game is a beast to run at the moment, even on the strongest of rigs.

I'll be playing tonight once I get home, if someone wants to squad up...

Chose the Vanu Sovereignty too.

Game's harder than I thought, but every bit as fun as I thought too. Having some dinner and will be on after that. Keen to squad up...however you do that.

Getting this now, looks pretty spectacular. Hopefully it'll be better than Tribes Ascend.

Got it, was thrown right into the action, killed instantly.

I'm on the US-West Server Connery at the moment but have no intention on staying there. I hope that Australian Server will be fixed soon.

Australian Server working now, was just playing for 10 minutes and I have to say, it's pretty disappointing.

There's some serious spawn-killing going on. I'm playing as the Vanu, and every time anyone exits the base (via the thing that propels you up), they're almost immediately killed. Also, I can't help but feel the game looked a lot better in the trailers/gameplay footage shown than the actual game, just looks messy for me. There are also loads and loads of bugs.

But hey, it's free.

It's an upgraded version of MAG with an extra 1700 players plus more skills, unlocks, and vehicles, gigantic and gorgeous maps...all for free. I'm far from disappointed.

Also, the devs seem to be pretty active at this stage sorting through all the various, inevitable launch issues. They're actually pretty active on their forum, and they've been flat out on Twitter since launch helping people too. As for the spawn killing, isn't that bound to happen when your spawning at a base that the enemy is trying to capture? Couldn't you have just spawned a bit further away and used a vehicle to get back there?

I'll be on tonight sometime if anyone's keen to squad up....so long as the server stays up.

I've put in a few hours now and I am very impressed. This game is going to be something else once people understand the metagame and start working as squads, teaming up to take bases behind enemy lines and breaking the supply lines. Already I've been in some absolutely EPIC battles, being part of a large convoy as we invaded a massive tower, eventually taking it after 20 mins or so once we had control of the skies around the tower.

People complain about the state of FPS games, and the fact that everyone is making CoD clones. Well, here we have an FPS that is pushing the genre to places we haven't seen since the original Planetside, only this time, the F2P model should keep these servers active for years.

I also wouldn't be surprised if part of Sony getting this ready now on PC is about bringing it to launch on PS4. As far as I'm concerned, this is the very definition of 'Killer App'.

I'm gonna be such a noob when I finally get a pc. Haven't kb&m since duke nukem in early 1990's. Squad up early 2013 illnino ;-)
New PC's make good Christmas presents you know... ;)

Kb&m is obviously great for FPS's when you get used to it, but yeah, there'll definitely be a crossover period where you may rage a little. I hadn't played with kb&m since BF2142 days but found it fairly easy to get back into.

Will be on shortly :D

Well due to the lack of a tutorial, I wasn't exactly sure how to do that. I just saw a bunch of people spawning, exiting, then getting killed.

I've played it more since, still not really enjoying it though, but a lot of that can be attributed to the fact that I could barely find any teammates. If you try invading a base without anyone at your side, not only will it be long and tedious, but you'll likely die several times.

Lastly, the game is dark as ****.

Check out the official tutorials, especially the Map tutorial. That will give you an idea of the metagame at play.

Also, I've made an outfit (PS2's version of clans) called "Bigfooty Corps", which will include myself and illnino for now (I'll also put a shout out on the Bigfooty steam group), so come play with us and we can figure this beast out together.

As for invading a base by yourself... don't do it!!! Seriously you can't do shit in this game solo. Also, if you press the 'insert' button you will automatically join a squad and then you can either spawn on the squad leader (though this has a cooldown timer), or you can spawn into hotspots near your squad. If you want to chat to your squad type "/sq" in the chat window and it will go into squad chat.

edit: Whilst browsing the Neogaf Planetside 2 OT, I came across this comment, from "Poimandres", which, in my opinion perfectly demonstrates why people should be excited about this game.

"Played as NC last night for a couple of hours. It was amazing!

I've never been involved in battles of such scale before. So much going on, and a real sense of acheivement as our squad took over a base. I think it's just absurd to be able to have so many players and vehicles on such large maps and still look like a million bucks. I was playing on the Australian server (local server!) so everything was smooth for me.

This is the kind of game I've always dreamed of. A massive scale FPS where you feel like you are truly part of a war. I couldn't get into the original Planetside because at the time I was shackled with a 56K modem and a weak PC. But not anymore. Coupled with my new PC, this game feels like it's from the future!".

Try this game, people!

yo lets get some ****ing people playing this game, 2000 people shooting each other trying to take over territories is ****ing amazing shiiiiiiit horey shiiieett its so good

so far me, f(a)gmpr and illkeeno are playing from bf. it'd be awesome to get more people playing so we can get a full squad of 12 running around taking on 700 enemies at once

Some people don't have a PC good enough to run this PAdman!

Absolutely loving it. The game looks and runs ****ing amazingly on high and with so much shit going on I sometimes die due to stopping in awe of the visuals. I'm playing NC as Cohzee if you ever see me, say hi or shoot me.

Watch this, even if you've been playing a bit. TB explains things really well and he knows his shit.
