Re: PODs gets 16 Brownlow Votes

I know... pretty incredible.

At one stage I looked up and he was coming 5th... 5th!!

With a full season under his belt, hopefully he can turn those Skilled Stadium bags into a regular occurrence.!

Re: PODs gets 16 Brownlow Votes

Definitely exceeded my expectations. :thumbsu: Deserving result as I think he's heavily underrated for playing in the Geelong team (on BigFooty). Those claiming they could play a good role in the Geelong forward line with our midfield haven't seen the JPod take a contested mark.

there is no way that Podsiardly deserved 13 votes in the brownlow. it shows how the umpires are sucked in by a good story of a 28 y.o. rookie who makes it to the big time. how can the Pod get 13 votes & someone like James Kelly get 2 votes. i reckon the voting by the umpires is a sham.

Not sure what you mean. Got votes in all his 5 goal haul games. I think he was pretty influential in the result of all these games.

Round 4 - (two votes) - 12 Kicks, 2 Handballs, 11 Marks, 2 Tackles and 5 Goals.
Round 6 - (two votes) - 9 Kicks, 6 Handballs, 5 Marks, 4 Tackles and 5 Goals.
Round 7 - (two votes) - 13 Kicks, 8 Handballs, 8 Marks, 3 Tackles and 5 Goals.
Round 10 - (two votes) - 13 Kicks, 2 Handballs, 9 Marks and 5 Goals.
Round 12 - (two votes) - 11 Kicks, 7 Handballs, 10 Marks, 3 Tackles and 5 Goals.
Round 14 - (three votes) - 12 Kicks, 5 Handballs, 8 Marks, 4 tackles and 5 Goals.

Re: PODs gets 16 Brownlow Votes

Was he even at the Brownlow last night?

Who replaced Chappy at the table?

Nah, we have so many others that he didn't even get an invite...Linga, Gazza, Q9, Bartel and Kelly were the ones I saw...hopefully Pods gets an invite next year so when he wins it the TV station doesn't look like gooses for not having him there to interview :D

On a serious note, what a season. To poll 3rd in votes at the club, with the calibre of players we have, is outstanding. I hope he now gets the recognition he deserves and it shatters the 'anyone could play FF for Geelong and do well' myth...if that were the case, Moons and Hawk would poll such votes wouldn't they. No criticism of them, but I hate seeing what Pods has done undervalued.

I was miffed my internet server was down last night because I wanted to toast him myself, so well done CF :thumbsu: Actually, this is a measure of how much Pods exceeded expectations: at the start of the night I decided I would have a mad monday tribute with a beer everytime Pods got a vote...but I couldn't keep up...had to stop at about 6.

Well done Podsy, may you have a great, if only 3-4 year, career with us.

Yep. People who make comments like the previous really have no idea what the Brownlow recognises.

It does not at all reward consistent 'goodness', rather multiple games of 'greatness'.

You could be in the top five players on the ground in every match of the year but not poll a vote, or have 16 games where you couldn't get a touch and eight games where you dominated and win the Brownlow.

the Pod only was terrific in those games that Geelong dominated. he was not best on ground in one of those games as far as i am concerned. nor in top3 on any given game. the umps need to review their voting criteria.

I find it pretty funny that Pods got 13 Brownlow votes and Enright, Kelly, Varcoe, Scarlett got 6 votes between them. Not that I don't love the J-Pod.

Disagree...all of the games in which he polled he played well, and in round 14 he was clearly BOG by a street, and unlucky not be considered so in round 10 as well.

On the other games where he polled I can see what you're saying, but by that logic in the games where we win by 100 pts, no one should get votes, because they only played well because we dominated. As far as I'm concerned, if a player's in the top 5, he's in the top 5, and that shouldn't be nullified just because the team's a long way in front of the opposition.
