Everyone knows that Judd is an umpires pet when it comes to Brownlow votes so you can't use that as an indicator.

Overall Judd would probably be ahead but Hayes wouldn't be far behind. Lenny has definitely been more infuential than Judd recently, who has been nowhere near as influential as he was at West Coast.

Who is a better midfielder at St Kilda then? Pretty sure most Saints supporters would rank Hayes as our no.1 midfielder.

Judd was more influential than Hayes back when he was at West Coast and before his groin problems. He is a shadow of the player he was back then though. Still a good player but not as influential as he used to be, Hayes has been far more damaging in recent times.

Judd won that Norm Smith when he was at West Coast. Was a different player then, but agree that it was a lucky Norm Smith.

Hayes is probably the better player at the moment. Tough, gets plenty of the footy, and is a very good kick of the ball.

Agree with you about Judd, that's why I prefer Hayes. Judd even got a lucky Best and Fairest in his 1st season and even last year, Marc Murphy would have been my choice for the Blues Best and Fairest winner.

Agree on Hayes too. His commitment is just superb. One of the few St.Kilda players, I actually like.

Depends what you want.

If you want a midfield star you get Judd.

If you want a midfield general you get Hayes.

2 x B&F's - Marc Murphy was more valuable to the Blues than judd in 09. Ditto Fevola in 08.
2 x All Aust - Not even in the top 10 midfielders in either year by prowess rankings.
1 x All Aust captain - Tom Harley was robbed of that award in 08 and as we have seen/heard/read, judd's leadership abilities are one of the worst in the AFL.
2 x top 5 finishes in MVP (voted by players) - Media hype influences players as well.
R/U Brownlow - One word: umpires.
09 - led comp in contested poss and clearances. - 16th in contested possies in 09 and regarding clearances, judd owes a lot to Murphy for assisting him in that stat.

Not shite, but very overrated.

Not even close. I hate Carlton more than the next bloke but Judd is a generational midfielder. He will probably finish ranked with the Voss's Buckleys and Hirds. Has been fantastic at Carlton no matter the bias here.

Hayes may have been as good as him in 09 and is a top shelf midfielder but Judd is just a much better player over the journey.

For the future Judds younger and better so dont give me any guff that a club would consider choosing Hayes before Judd given the chance. Same as early draft picks you always go for the best player in such a situation

Totally agree with you here mate. Hayes is just awesome whilst his doubters aren't so awesome.
