All this nonsense about port's history turning away people is just propoganda perpetuated by those who want to hide the one thing that sets us apart from the fruit tingles in an effort to make us "crows lite"![]()

What the?!? So he didn't turn back, because we weren't Port enough, so becoming more Port offends him?!Agreed ... I was being told on another forum by a former Port Adelaide supporter who became a Crow in 1990 and didn't change back in 1997 'coz we weren't the same Port Adelaide as he followed in the 1980s (mainly due to the point we weren't black and white or magpoies) that this kind of marketing was turning people away and we should become another 'team for all South Australians' ... 'crows lite' is a great explanation!
... another imbecile? yes!
This idea that people will be turned off by the old magpies references bemuses me. If you decide to barrack for Port Adelaide in the AFL, you know exactly where the club has come from. You have made a concious decision to follow Port Adelaide, the same club that has been around forever and all the baggage that comes with it. If you're too young to remember before Port only existed in the AFL, then who gives a toss - all your getting is a bit of a history lesson which I doubt is going to turn you off. Idiots like KG, Cornsey and other Clown supporters saying that bringing up our own clubs history will turn people off is just moronic. If you have a lifelong history of hating the Magpies, you simply are not going to follow Port FULL STOP. There aren't too many 40 year old football followers out there who haven't decided on which team they are going to support. It's a ******ed arguement peddled by imbeciles.
Absolutely. Lots of kids go for "The Power" without knowing or caring about our history. Now is more important than then to the very young.I disagree. There are a lot of new, young Port supporters that go for Port because they see the Crows are boring, or think it's cooler to go for the less popular team.
A lot of kids today don't have same allegiances as many on this board have, and choose to support clubs for quite odd reasons.
...
History is good, as long as people do not feel that to support Port their parents had to have done the same....
Of course, I agree that history generally isn't a turn off. But I do believe it can be to some, in fact I know it can be.

Indeed. We started with 37,000 members and an average of 33,000 people to each game..... with one would guess 100% Old-time Port Supporters. Since distancing ourselves from our history, or membership and crowds have done what exactly ?
For every one ex South supporting kid we managed to get we pushed away 2 old timers.
IMHO adding "THE PORT ADELAIDE FOOTBALL CLUB" to the banner in that way makes it too busy and detracts from the effectiveness of the new banner. If you open a page with the URL portadelaidefc.com.au, the window title says "Port Adelaide - Official website of the Port Adelaide football club" and immediately below the centre of the banner is the text "Today on Port Adelaide FC" yet you still need something in the banner to indicate that you are in fact viewing the website of the Port Adelaide Football Club then maybe someone sitting behind you with a sledge hammer would be more appropriateI fixed it.

Edit:- I've emailed the club congratulating them on the new banner and with this suggested improvement. Here's a link to where it's hosted on Imageshack if you want to see it in a decent size

Like the new banner.
As others have already said, including the images of PAFC players from our SANFL days in the background is a winner.

How many other AFL clubs have the full club name prominent in their website banner let alone on the banner at all?

Actually it is the opposite. I agree some do by default because of their logo which is why I said "prominent in their website banner".
Brisbane is a different case. They have to pretend Fitzroy is still half their club so Lions is almost mandated to be used everywhere.Actually it is the opposite. I agree some do by default because of their logo which is why I said "prominent in their website banner".
The only reference to "Brisbane" is in the logo. Their URL is lions.com.au and they have "Lion news" and "Today on lions online". It is difficult to find a reference to the Brisbane Lions Football Club on their home page at all.
How could I have forgotten that the Brisbane Australian Football Club and the Fitzroy Football Club "merged". They are actually the "Brisbane Lions Australian Football Club", formerly the "Brisbane Bears - Fitzroy Football Club", but you don't see that (the current name) anywhere on their banner.Brisbane is a different case. niiiice. lets hope the new clash guernsey fits into the "tradition" style the clubs pushing at the moment.
