Positives and Negatives vs Port Adelaide

Had our best midfield mix when Gaff was out last year, played awesome all finals series. Sheed and Redden were in top form and Sheed started this year as our best mid going close to 40 and a goal a game. Not one of the posters calling for Masten to be dropped every week but surely it dosnt take a genius to see that Gaff is the better player. Drop Masten, Gaff plays his role and Redden and Sheed go back to their roles. Gaff is not a *ing inside mid! And why would you mess with Sheed form ffs?

Congrats to Port, they've put all the pieces in place to finally be a good team.
Lycett's inclusion as team-up with Ryder, and intel on us would've helped.
It's taken them a few years to finally get the wood on us though,
now they have to go on with it, and back it up for rest of the season.

We are the hunted and need to deal with it, enough with the cute tricks and
Harlem Globetrotter crap, enough with the lairising footy.
Port have a big-bodied midfield and they played hard, aggressive, fast, uncompromising footy,
and smashed us all over the field.
Outcoached and outplayed.

After drinking our own bathwater, let's not throw the baby out with it as well?
JK was ham-sandwiched all night, the guy is class, cut him some slack.
Darling dropped his daks, needs to find them again!
Hey, it was a tough day at the office, you lose some, a perfect storm literally.
We need Rioli and whatever NicNat has to offer.
The hangover is officially over.
Regroup, re-enter. Need to address this midfield dilemna re Gaff/Sheed/Masten.

We're 8th in a logjam of 12 points, interesting season so far.
Positive - Lions got smashed (played their Grand final in round one?)
Will the same happen to Port?
Does everyone know how to beat us now? (in wet weather sure)
Against the Cats....? Lose that and some serious soulsearching.

The real Eagles are still out there..

+ Petrol
+ Shep
+ Jetta’s return
+ Ryan tried his guts out
+ our forward line looked better when OAllen went to the backline in the last quarter, probs should have started there tonight instead of Schoey.

- where/what is our game plan?
- little dinky kicks in the backline
- crowded forward line
- Darling & Kennedy out of touch
- lost the air and ground contest
- Schoey couldn’t get the pace of the game
- Masten and Cole turnover kings
- Redden still celebrating our GF win I think

JK has been poor but I've got some patience with him since he came in underdone and our delivery to him has been abysmal. JD has been more of a worry for me. He gets further up the ground and involved in more general play, but this season rather than being a lethal mix of power and agility he seems to be lacking both, and loses contests he used to gobble up. His confidence seems to be at rock bottom.

Positives
Petrucelle
Hurn played like a captain should
Shep had a great game keeping Robbie Gray to 1 point was superb
Negatives
Rucks were beaten
Mids were beaten
Forwards barely got a chance apart from Petrucelle
Beaten at ground level and in the air.

Would 100% riot if Petch doesn’t win the rising star nom for this week. 18 touches, 7 marks, 3 tackles and 5.2 goals, that’s as complete as you get. He’s gonna be something very special.

A bit of a positive was the run and carry goal we had cutting through the middle of the ground. Think we've got the personnel to do this more often, particularly when notice extra numbers getting pushed up the ground.

It was noticable in that it made space up the ground, forcing the opposition to come at us.

Clearly lacked a plan B on the rebound tonight, lotsa repeat inside 50s. But that play stood out as something that worked and should work again.

+ Petro Shep
- Tall forwards and bombs away delivery
- Repeating same failing down the wing exit strategy
- stopping the flow and kicking backwards and getting trapped in the back50
- being smashed in the midfield by SPP

- Freezing my arse off

Other clubs have worked out possession football can be broken down with overlap running.

Anyone who thinks tonight has any positives has rocks in their head.
A complete and absolute non effort and performance.
Nothing wrong with losing a game but tonight was a group who simply thought they had won before the ball was bounced and were completely smashed at every possible contest.
We should be deeply embarrassed to lose like we did, this is the premier side in the comp which played like the 18th best side in the comp, no spirit, no guts, no heart, no passion.
Good sides can lose, I get that. When you lose without an effort then there is issues.
This is not a bad night, this is simply a group who banked 4 points before even turning up.

Imagine thinking a 19 year old kicking 5 goals isn't a positive. Bugger off back down the hole you crawled out of.

Your bang on , thats a very good post.

But be warned.

The Mastenites wont like you, your post, or your message ... so heads up they will be out to defend him till the cows come home.... and will be lead by his most defiant and vocal leader Thorn AKA Carbine Chaos.

Gaff is indeed a much better player than Masten and can more than adequately play his role.

Team dynamics and their interplay, are always pivotal to success and team balance is always critical to sustained success.

We haven't got the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle right yet, hopefully that will change.

one of the worst ive seen us play in a long time. being there in the cold made it even worse

our forwards were horrid

barass being injured

masten.

the amount of times the ball was being kicked high...

You have no idea mate. Footy is about team efforts. Great for jack to kick 5 he must be sitting around thinking how good he is while his team lost by 7 goals and were never in the match.
AFL is not Auskick

Rubbish posting. Petch looked very annoyed in spite of his goals. Fantastic effort from a kid that deserves praise.

So if you had your choice between losing and having a 19 year old play terribly, or losing and having a 19 year old play wonderfully, you don’t see any difference?

We got belted, did you not watch the game? Petch played well. That’s awesome.

Yeah, so that’s a positive.

We got belted, no amount of Petrucelle playing well changed that, but it doesn’t mean it wasn’t a positive.

Fair enough I forgot what world we live in today, Petch was sensational and the belting doesn’t matter.
Seriously he was good but I simply at this level judge teams not individuals, lower levels judge individuals
