Praying - does it help?

When we pray to the Lord we should keep in mind that what we request may not be answered in the way we were hoping as nothing will be done that is outside the will of God. When Jesus knew the sacrifice He would have to make He prayed to the Father in Luke 22:42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. Jesus asked that He may be spared from the evil that was coming if it was according to the will of the Father. We should likewise submit our will to the will of God when we pray.

Some might be so foolish as to pray for a new Ferrari or a million dollars, however such vain desires for material possessions and superficial wealth are not the will of God, but it is spiritual wealth that we should seek. By reading the Bible and getting to know God we can hope to learn more about what He values and what would make a good prayer. Also if we wish for God to answer our prayers then we should be willing to do what we can and show our commitment and trust in Him by repenting of our sins and asking forgiveness.

Prayer is the practice of experiencing God's presence and therefore should be exercised in faith and hope while understanding that our will may not be included in the divine plan God has for us all. Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.

Why don't people set goals instead of praying?, I find that works for me.

But if you pray and say "God give me courage and hope, if not understanding, thy will be done, for there is nothing but they will." Then it can help.

QUOTE]

If we don't ask "thy will be done" then his will shall not be done. Is that what you are saying?

Matthew 18:19 (King James Version)

Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven

What does that mean?

So you're saying that the tsunami crisis was the will of God?

and we are told by Birdy and others that prayers are only answered if they happen to coincide with "God's will". So all the prayers said for the wellbeing of the victims were a waste of time because because God's will was that they should all perish?
